In the latest development in what seems to be an ever-escalating German power war, Mercedes-AMG has released this, the most powerful E-Class ever.
With 460kW on tap from a bi-turbo V8, this car absolutely rockets off the line and when we put it head-to-head with the latest RS6, it came out tops - quite comfortably.
This is a brutally fast car and having driven it for a few days, our video journalist Ciro De Siena was left thinking, is all this power necessary, or even worth it?
To really stretch the car's legs without the risk of being handcuffed and spending the weekend in a holding cell, we took our test unit to the Saldanha airstrip outside Cape Town.

This should be called Ciro’s honest reviews. He doesn’t wax lyrical about how amazing the car it is! Not caught up in the euphoria of the experience. Just says it how it is and keeps honest. Good job guys. Keep it up! 👍👍

Oh wow Ciro!! Most honest review ever!!! So yes, why does the government EVEN ALLOW car manufacturers to sell cars that can do more than 120 km/h?? All cars should be limited to 120 km/h, and any driver found travelling faster than that, should be arrested and charged with attempted assault/murder. I see absolute no reason for cars to be built being able exceed the speed limit. What legal use is there for it??? Unless you live in Germany and have access to the Autobahn.
Honestly, I feel like you shouldn't really be emphasising how ridiculously expensive this car is - The person buying this car doesn't care and isn't watching this video. Instead just make the video more fun for me and tell me all the cool features it has and also mention the negatives.
Also, your videos just aren't detailed enough. I'd like to know how the rear passenger room is like and how the boot spaces looks. How is it around town and how it is on the highway.
I'm not going to buy the car but we all watch car review videos for cars we won't buy just as a pass time and to learn more about cars and all their different features and how the compare to other cars.

Is it possible to do reviews that incorporate a bit more detail. I'm talking differences to the predecessor or pre face-lift, everyday use ( consumption, practicality, passenger comfort, head turning and general appeal) etc.
I feel the most recent reviews ( e.g. s3, m3 comp, this merc and some) didn't really give us more on that. I feel the reviews are now too brief and more centered on speed and driving around a simple circuit with no "out there" driving...

Honest review- 1.5 is my personal limit to an all rounder, Audi are playing it smart and staying in that region - but 2.5 is way off, you really could by a fun weekend drive and a exec daily vehicle for that - and probably have the better of both
This is the thing about cars, once you love them you get emotional. It's heartbreaking to hear the negative part of the car which is true because you love them
The new steering wheel looks better. Whether it's better functional... I'm not sure.
I think blaming the suspension and not the low profile tires is an oversight. If you want comfort you need to 1. use a smaller wheel (also better for acceleration) and 2. use a higher profile tire (absorbs bumps and imperfections before the suspension). 3. Tire compound is very important. A softer tire wheel ride nicer than a hard tire. Bridgestone typically make hard tires, where Continental and Nokian make softer tires.
A sports tire is generally more harsh than a grand touring tire.

Ciro... Having said that it reaches speeds but in a boring way. Would you pick a super car over this since it's already on supercar money. But if you could. Would you pick a supercar like an Audi R8 just for the thrills or would you pick the compromise of having a fast yet practical sports car? Because technically this car can keep up with supercars difference is that you can hold 4 people. But what's your pick Ciro?

I'm just wondering if the next gen E63 AMG will it also have an V8 or are they gonna kill the v8 in E63 same as they are doing with the 2022 C63 AMG giving it a 4liter hybrid engine with electric motors etc.
No more V8s my guy, in fact by the year 2030 car manufacturers will completely stop making cars with combustion engines.
The future of cars is electric and hybrids are a way of phasing out combustion engines and phasing in electric motors.

I mean if I want comfort I'd be getting the E220d. Ofcourse a whole lot doesn't make sense about the E63s but that's the nature and beauty of an AMG

M5 LCI ... 0-100 in 2.8 seconds it makes that AMG look slower

Agree with the review, too much money for a car that is a compromise between a fast family sedan & a sports car - RS6 is better fit as a fast family saloon & as far as a sports car goes I would put my money on a Porsche such as a Carrera 4S or a Targa they hardly depreciate & are always desirable even as new generations are launched

Call me mad, but no matter how much I like the E63 I'll probably go for the 2.9 inline diesel with it comfy nature and spend the saved money for 6.2 V8 C63 W204
They made less than 1500 of 2021 E 63s amg and they wont make more of those in v8 so this one will be the only year they made thes e cars that look with v8 so these cars will go way up in prices

Wagon or coupe, or saloon doesn't matter to me: BMW M5CS for me. Any day all day.
The RS6 also has a longer wheelbase. I bet the Merc came with Michelin tires. Also the RS6 Avant while a performance wagon is definitely heavier and more setup to comfort by default than sport.
I think the RS6 uses either Perelli or Hankook.

Avant: performance model
They only make 1 Sport (RS) version of their vehicles. The only exception being the R8 b/c it doesn't have a base model. Either coupe or convertible and it's not an RS, it's an R8 meaning complete or infinite (8).

It competes directly with the Mercedes-AMG "E 63 S* Wagon". Which the reviewer did not have and while his point was valid in comparison of what he had at the time. It made no sense to me because, the E 63 S* Wagon has similar comfort to the Avant. He's making a pointless/thoughtless comparison.
Audi made the Avant to compete directly with Mercedes-AMG E 63 S* Wagon. Mercedes-AMG made the E 63 S* Wagon simply to set itself back in a market alone again.
The only reason any of this cross comparison is being made is due to the reviewer who compared 2 cars that don't directly compete with one another. The AMG S varients are literally just race cars in sheep's clothing. Same for the BMW Competition varients. They're not really intended for the road. The real reason I think we're seeing all this is full electrification is near.
As for names, that's just marketing BS to sell cars and make things seem newer than they are. It's not like Audi changed the engine.
Audi RS6 Sedan wasn't selling well which is true for all sedans. Especially while under the same VW umbrella.*

These brands are playing in the same sand box not to cababolis each other in a niche market dominated by SUVs. The only reason they don't compare them to SUVs is to maintain the perception. It's a big game.
Sedans and Wagons don't sell the way they used to hence why they only make certain ones certain year's trying to time the market.

I would save a million by buying a pre face lift E63s, looks and sounds better and just race chip that and I'd have the ultimate sedan with a million to spare on a bakkie and a used city car.

Ironically I tried to do exactly what you just said. Combine 2 cars into one. The executive and sports car. It really doesn’t work. The E63s is incredible but it’s now simply too expensive. You want a sports car? Buy a Porsche.
I agree. Too many cars are trying to be two or more different cars in one and the end result is always compromised. Eg...sporty SUVs, super-saloons etc. I'd much rather have a supercar AND a luxury saloon instead.

It doesn't sound like you live in the real world buddy, all 3 Germans are stupid fast. You really can't enjoy any of their power on the road. For example, I drove a A220 CDI and half throttle in that is the same as full throttle in a 1.6 Mazda 3. You just can't use 600hp. Half throttle in these Germans will be like full throttle in a GTi, which is as much power as you'll ever need.
BTW, The Audi is heavier, less aerodynamic, larger wheels means more unsprung mass to move, less power cause it's not the performance version, and more drivetrain loss cause it's permanent quattro which works better in the rain than BMW or Merc.
Go to carwow and check the drag race between the 3 in the wet. Plus check the best time the RS6 did (11.3) which is closer to more powerful versions of M5C and E63s.
Audi is doing more with less.
