I was in 40s last week in the rain for about an hour and a half without proper gear ie: vented textile jacket, vented leather gloves, denim jeans, and sneakers. Least to say I was not prepared. I look up to your videos in moments like that and know that I can get through it. Thanks for all you do, you and the whole team are truly inspirational for a lot of folks out there!
I so feel you in regards to the cold! This last Jan, I went from Northern Cal to a small town in the mountains of Utah... On a Sportster. Yes, there *should* be a badge for cold weather touring! My trip got as low as 25° F, so your cold was about where I got to. You went further than me, though, as I only went 850 miles one way. Along with Character building, you also get a lot of life lessons on the way, along with the beautiful scenery, and great times (yeah, and some not so great). As for lane splitting, not all of the HOV lanes are a lane and a half wide, and not everyone will get out of the way. Most, however, understand that letting you go past means that is one car-length of traffic less to deal with. Many good things to say about your channel and what you do, but personally you and Jess from @Her_two_wheels have inspired me most to try and start my own channel! Perhaps sometime soon, I will actually have some content to put up. . .

I rode a 650 1968 BSA chopper from Michigan to Conroe Texas in 1981...1550 miles...you will be doing double that on this trip and Great to see you doing this. Good Man!

I just made the ride from Bristol TN to San Diego. Glad I got the Ultra Limited for my rides.
I spent 30 years of my life in California and I always saw those mountains. Maybe we’re different but it never ever got old. I’m in Sarasota now and can’t wait to visit, see and ride those mountains again.

I basically have 4 sources of go-to TH-cam motorcycle content 1) Million Dollar Bogan 2) Shadetree Surgeon 3) Matt Laidlaw & 4) Ken Kaplan, four different approaches - one love.
To have 3 of the 4 be tied together kind of blows my mind.

I'm pulling for you and your weight challenge. I know the feeling, I had a motorcycle accident last year and I'm not happy with my physical condition being that I can't workout due to my injury. Drop that weight man, I believe in you.
Same... I'm not a big dude, but two motorcycle accidents in two years (recovering from #2 currently) slows ya down a bit.
Have you seen some of those "roads" in Australia that Million Dollar Bogan has ridden that bike on? That bike identifies as an enduro crosser.
as someone who has done that trip in my dodge ram (back in 2008 ish) and on my vrod 3 ish years ago, you are absolutely correct with the sunset (in the beginning to the end) and the experience of the difference. SOO much greater than the truck. as for the cold yes, been through -20 (I live in chicago and I rode for 2.5 years snow is where I draw the line), I have taken on my dads thought - if the temperature is not at least my age I will not be riding if I don't have too.. lol. aka I am 41 so I try to be within those temps now... unless I am out and about and or dress for it due to toys for tots or some other ride, I am not out LOL... love the vids my dude.. keep it up and can't wait to see what else you end up doing and where else you end up riding. cheers.

What you call barrel cactus I'd like to think are close relative to the boom-flurry of mid world. They're actually called saguaros though, it's crazy how big those suckers can get! If you ever want to see a whole different side of Arizona, take a detour through Flagstaff, Sedona, or Payson. It's like a whole other world compared to the deserts that you've ridden through. I feel the same way with cold. Lol. Grew up in central Fl. Bike only for a few years in Jacksonville, then again in Lakeland. Rain doesnt bother me much. Rode in tropical storms, etc. Now im near Pittsburgh, layer up and a fairing help with the cold. But wet and cold is a hard no.
Actually, i remember praying for rain being stuck atgatt on I4 in July.

The I0 from Tucson to San Diego is one of the great rides out there. I've done it 10 times at least. 9 in a car once onee on my bike . In the car, you just drop the windows, turn up the heat and crank the tunes. It's a beautiful ride either way. Done it, love it.
It has been awesome watching this bike travel through time under some seriously interesting characters. The whole thing, across all channels, was pretty incredible. Kudos.
It's a real testament to the quality of Harley that it held up so well considering the abuse it went through 👌👌👌👌

I just recently got a suv. ( To become a rual mail carrier) So riding in all weather before that was just what i did. Cold and wet is a horrible combination. But gear carries you a long way. (Heated grips, long johns and something for your neck... ect.) That and just doing it every day. Conditioning the nerve endings.

hi ben, sorry to hear about the camper. sounds like it wasnt winterized at some point. i would sell it asap, its probably filled with mold between the walls by now. i would invest in a slightly bigger enclosed traiiler , like the one you have and buy a teton T4 tent ( easy set up, and large enough to stand in with a nice big cot to sleep on, even us big guys) thats how i roll and camp, with big boy chairs, a small gas grill and a couple of coolers. toy haulers look great, but they arn't made well and lose value way to fast. enclosed trailers are much more useful, cheaper, and with thoughtful use of e-track very customizable.. and hold their value .

Glad to see this ride finished! I have alot of friends/family in the palm springs and inland empire area, so its cool to see you ride though there. Regarding the windmills.. Listen to Kyuss to understand.. they are from that area. Perfect desert music. Also, i loved the podcast with Matt Laidlaw. My fav part is when you spill beer on his floor.. its hilarious knowing he doesnt drink. haha.

You're funny man. Me and a buddy have been startin our ridin season in Detroit every February as long as there isnt ice on the road. I feel safer ridin in sub-freezin temps with wider tires. 130 on the front and 180 on the back gives me more insurance in the snow. Unfortunately, that bike is down, lol. I've been ridin a 2022 Street bob 114 this winter. Fun. Keep The Faith

I had a reverse of what you had for temperature. I hate cold riding but I’m used to it, I staid in GA a week of 100°+ weather. On the way home in a tank top and shorts, 47° was EFFIN’ COLD.

Those are Saguaro cactus. Only found in Arizona..pretty cool plant. Rather be there than Mammoth CA right now..we've received 45+ ft of snow so far..can't wait to motorcycle!

If you’re curious I’m pretty sure in AZ now you can only do it at a slow speed when the other cars are stopped like at a stop light to get to the front. Could be wrong but that’s how I understood it. Love the vids 🤘
The only place lane splitting is legal as far as I know is California. I looked it up 4 states allow it, but the way most people do it is not the legal way!
Arizona only has lane filtering, splitting is illegal. The filtering law only allows you to pass in roads with 2 lanes, traffic is stopped and in 45 mph max speed limit areas. Love the content brother and ride safe.

Bought the leather Odin gloves...they are great. I use them as my winter gloves.
Another epic Shadetree Vid man. I live in the kilometre land. 65 km is about 40 mile. So I figure the speedo was set in km on the bike. You never said. 100km'h is around 60 mph. 110Km/h is 70 mph..roughly. 60km/h is like 35 mph. I'm lucky i have ridden with both ..mph and km. and Luckily US speed limits are pretty easy. For a veteran rider. Mind you Florida near the Ga border was a trip..Bikes flying past stationary cops..at like 90 mph. Military types with exposed carry ..and speeding..I stuck it out at 70mph..and was being overtaken by everyone..I felt like I was going to be a speedbump sooner than later.

It's not legal to lane split in AZ while in motion
What is legal is to lane filter at stop lights so we don't get rear ended and sandwiched between vehicles. So we can legally move to the front of the line.
No, it's not legal to lane split/filter unless you're on a road where the speed limit is 45. You must also be at a light and there is actual traffic in front of you.
