I agree, one hundred %, on your post trip summary, one of the best things about riding a bike, the chance to escape into ones own mind, resetting the internal clock, thinking things through that may have been troubling you subconsciously, putting the world too right and zeroing out on the tensions of life. It a supreme therapy cars drivers can’t appreciate. Hats off to Shadetree, keep on keeping on.
Hey Shadetree, at 10:28, that would be Pensacola FL. My house is there somewhere. That body of water would be Escambia Bay which connects to the Gulf of Mexico.
Every summer I take two weeks and straight travel to places I have never been to on my Yammie Vstar 950. I pack up soft bags, make a flexible plan to end in a particular place but decide to stop when I want along the way. My longest trip has been down to Florida and I live in Pennsylvania. I took the Blue Ridge Parkway down and back for most of it. That was a fantastic journey. I will return to Florida again and would love to chat with you the next time I make the trip.
I was in Florida visiting while you guys were heading out. Started in Wisconsin the Saturday before, went to eastern Tennessee then Florida then back to Wisconsin. 3,000 miles on my bmw rt in a week, crushed it even with all the naysayers. Shadetree inspired me to go for it!
Hey there Josh, I'm a honda design engineer. For gas, check the owners manual, it suggests 91 or higher. Pinging isn't super common in those bikes, using 87 is unlikely to damage your engine, but if you have access to 91 I'd use it.
Are you sure? Every 80's Honda I've owned, (including 3 Goldwings and 4 CX500's) have all called for between 85 and 87. Especially Goldwings since they're low compression engines.
"Let's escape before we get asked to do any more good deeds" hahahahahahah man I love this stuff. The outro was even better. Thank you for putting into words one of the many allures of motorcycling. You're a motivation and a great dude!
"I don't even know where I am..." Those are the best words to say on a motorcycle trip. Last trip it took 6 days before I was on a familiar road! Great times and glad you made it.
Can't believe you guys still have gas shortages. We didn't have any in the Northeast. You constantly surprise me man... The Cure... The introspection...The great advice on how to live without regrets.. Keep on being you.
Yeah you got guts..I just back off of my measly 485 mile trip to Calif. Because my bike stutters at 55 to 60 and then smooths out again...yeah I'm a wimp....lol... glad ya made it !
10:10 until the sun comes up everything before that’s just a prelude. Me, living my teenage years during the 70s and 80s my twisted ears heard “Quaalude” not prelude. Just imagine what those white lines in the road would look like after a few Quaaludes. hahahahaha
Those Goldwings carried ya'll 1,200 miles trouble free and comfortably enough that you only stopped for gas and food. It might time to stop calling them crappy bikes! Love the channel, Josh. Keep it up!
That first bridge in the video where you mentioned that it was pretty but you didn’t know where you were is the I-10 bridge coming into Pensacola. I live in Pensacola and have ridden that bridge many times. Never disappoints!
Nathan, when I started reading your comment I was like, "Did I write this one already?" because that's exactly what I was going to tell Josh. When I saw the DQ up on the hill, I knew exactly where he was: My home town too. Maybe see you around, eh? Look for the guy on the blue (yes, blue not black) Sportster ;)
Damn I feel sorry for the neighbours, Shady and flip shouting at the top of their voices, plus two Honda Goldwings revving their engines at 12 am in the morning. What a great trip, sleeveless, riding two huge bikes, going over 1000 mile plus trip down the highway, fueled up on spicy pickles.

I did the unknown. I’m about 350 miles from where I went in Michigan from Indiana. My bike did good up to 30 minutes from getting home. It acted like it was out of gas but it blew a fuse. I did get home just to have the same thing happen to me the next day coming home from work lol. I made it to my destination and back and to me that’s good

Don't forget when you get to Dallas, TX, you are only half way. You still need to get back home. You can break down then. Enjoy the ride and be you, because you are awesome.
Thanks for the content Josh. I'm currently laid up in the hospital after a car decided to turn left in front of me. These videos are helping me through the monotony of hospital life...
Shade tree to be absolutely honest I had a gold wing many years ago early eighties model I don't remember the exact year but I burned every type of gas in it 86 87 89 97 it didn't matter it burned every bit of it and it didn't give me the slightest bit of trouble it was actually one of the best motorcycles I ever had I really regret getting rid of it.
As someone who is stumbling around through life like an idiot, I've come to adopt a saying I picked up from a fellow coworker who always said this when trying out new unknown methods at work that may or may not go against Osha standards, " fuck it, I wanna see what happens."

Riding down a one lane road in the backroads of Mississippi on big ol Hondas with a Gay Bikers For Jesus sticker, sounds like a great time! Awesome vid bud, glad you guys made it!
This is why good friends are important, sometimes, you just can't get the lead out, and get up off your buns and do something, or you just need a little extra courage or motivation. There have been plenty of trips I have stressed my way out of and then someone would simply say, "come on man, I'll ride with ya" and boom, easy yes. You can't buy motivation, but you can have friends. With that being said, I dont have any friends around anymore 😒😂
Man shadetree you are so inspiring. Dude me and my wife are riding our 2020 softail standard (I bought it cause of your review of it and I've never regretted it) to Destin Florida in October and everyone is saying oh you need a touring bike to that and I'm like if shadetree can ride a hardtail chopper 1200 miles then we can ride 1800 miles round trip with suspension. Man I never miss a video from you. Your quotes are really inspirational and just so motivating.
Man what a feeling, I absolutely get the shakes right before a long burner like that. Will I die, will I just wreck, will it break down, and if any of this happens how will I get all my shit back home. Fuqit let go. Rock on cowboy. You definitely have your country cred in my book, measured by diversity and over coming.

What an adventure. Glad you made it and enjoyed it. I had to miss the moto fest due to other life obligations but the vicarious ride with you in the video was fun. Thanks.
I did the ride from Jupiter, fl. to Waco, Tx. straight (29 hrs.) on Christmas Day plus. I was beat but a blast to ride. Thanks for letting me relive it!!
I run non ethanol gas in both my Harley's (72 FLH & 98 FLSTF) most of it is 87 octane and they do fine. I don't want alcohol & water in my old FLH specially. I do toss in a tank of high test in the 98 FLSTF now and then. I used to stop at that same Flying J when I was driving for Odyssey manufacturing out of Tampa but never eat there. live in Alabama now but miss Florida.
Goldwings if taken care of are awesome. bought an 85 with a knock ($300) that has been sitting 8 years, picked up ebay motor with 54,000 ($400 shipped), one full day to swap motor $80 for 4 carb kits, new stator ($120) when swapping motor, and it's got almost 40,000 more miles on it now. Never broke down once, but have put tires and did the waterpump on it. No ethanol or if you use it don't leave it (winter is 4-5 months here) in it.
06:10 There is usually a frame label with it on it on the right side, prob under a cover. But most GL1500 manuals i find say they recommend 91 octane or higher be used, FYI.
I hadn't ridden in over 20 years, so naturally I got a bug up my ass and bought the biggest fucking bike I could find in my price range. Been rockin' my $1300 '89 GL1500 for 2 weeks now. I have little doubt the bike could easily make a 1200 mile trip, it's my ability to ride that long and far that's in question. With only 200 miles of local riding under my belt, I have a feeling I should hold off long trips for a while.
A motorcycle accident has prevented me from coming down to Texas and meeting everyone . ride safe and have an amazing time and most important have a Beer for me.
Never question yourself and your abilities . You alone only know what you can or can not do . An amazing adventure but you had the best partner on your side . Need I say more . American Honda ....
Glad you decided to take the trip and made it safely! Got to meet you on Saturday at the motofest, we took pics towards the end of the day and that was great!
@4:56 that looked like a spot in Mississippi that says gas at that exit, but its another 5 miles down the road. I was on a sporty and was already on fumes, it died and I literally rolled up to the pump. 3.4 gallons in a 3.3 gallon tank
Have done 3 unknown rides this year. 3797 mile round trip to Daytona Bike Week from Nebraska in March. 1k in a day from Alabama to Nebraska in April. 3200 mile round trip to SC from Nebraska in April. Did the Tail of the Dragon, Moonshiner 28, Cherohala Skyway, & Foothills Parkway on the way back. All were first trips I'd ever done over 1k by myself on a bike (06 Electra Glide Classic) purchased in Nov 2020. Each time the confidence builds more to where no unknown isn't worth trying. Watching your Goldwing adventures makes me wanna buy one just to see if I can too.
Heads up, Josh, if you're riding backroads in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri etc., you're lucky to find 87. Carry a couple of small bottles of Lucas with you and replace them when you hit a Flying J or Petro. Works on a 103 just fine. Keep on goin'.

Thanks for the content Josh. I'm currently laid up in the hospital after a car decided to turn left in front of me. These videos are helping me through the monotony of hospital life...
I had a truck hit me as I was turning left once. 6 bones and 5 surgeries later. Take care brother. Itll get better
I’ll be thinking about ya, I hope you heal up quick!
Jerry's catfish house is supposed to be an igloo. I've ate there a few times
Come with me, and you will see a world full of osha violations. Screw the pencil pushers man, enjoy life and do what feels right.
@@2amoto yes someone who gets it, to me there is such a thing as too much safety, sure you can have all the ppe in the world and all it takes is an idiot doing it wrong, I say idiot because even the greenest of hands can do a simple task. But yea just go about and if it feels right go ahead at full ramming speed baby!
LMAO at that one...awesome! No fun at knowing what WILL happen.
I say something similar to this. "Fuck it, we're doing this in the name of science and discovery"
Riding down a one lane road in the backroads of Mississippi on big ol Hondas with a Gay Bikers For Jesus sticker, sounds like a great time!
Awesome vid bud, glad you guys made it!
Good times my man
Now that was fucking funny.....😂
@@shadetreesurgeon , I don't get what the sticker has to do with whether you guys are brothers or not.
Confidence: nourishment for the wise, liquor for the fool.
I'm storing that one way Leftover...thanks
Man what a feeling, I absolutely get the shakes right before a long burner like that. Will I die, will I just wreck, will it break down, and if any of this happens how will I get all my shit back home. Fuqit let go. Rock on cowboy. You definitely have your country cred in my book, measured by diversity and over coming.
my Harley blew up 1000 miles from home on a 3 thousand mile ride from QLD to Victoria & Back & lm glad l did that trip
l got the bike home $3k later for a 2nd hand motor my bike is going again... ready for the next long ride... cheers from Down Under & Keep Ya Knee's in Da Breeeezzeeeee.........
Bro I never have a plan for anything, that's why I like your channel. Mad props for riding out to Texas on the 80's!! Can't wait to do the same, ride safe brother.
Sunrise, wrong side of another day,
Sky high and six thousand miles away,
Don't know how long I've been awake,
Wound up in an amazing state,
Can't get enough,
And you know it's righteous stuff,
Goes up like prices at Christmas,
Motorhead, you can call me Motorhead, alright
I bought a $2000 honda Valkyrie with 5 thousand miles on it and have been riding it coast to coast every year Han 90,000 miles on it and never did anything to it but change the fluids and tires and brake pads, so comfortable and reliable for only 2 grand
A majestic tale of friendship, motorcycles, and PICKLES! HELL YEAH!
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Riding home from grocery store this weekend I got run over by a pizza delivery driver. In the hospital watching this Monday morning with my shattered femur. Appreciate your outlook more than youtube comments section could ever show. Pretty sure my Sportster is totaled and I'm getting a goldwing after some physical therapy has me on 2 legs again.
Looking forward to more adventures of shadetree army in the meantime
I’m so sorry to hear this my friend, I wish you a speedy return to two wheels!
“If you’re not livin on the edge, you’re takin up too much space.” Steven Tyler
This quote says a lot in our world of biking.
RIDE EZ,
Dry Bayou Dan

As the ole expression goes ... Been there done that ... But after nearly 73 years on ole planet earth it's time to slow done just a touch .. Young man you keep on enjoying life ... Keep on doing what put's a smile on ya face . Oh by the way Saddle Tramp is a bud of mine ...
Jerry's and Berry's in Richland,MS are owned brothers who are indeed in a long standing feud.
I KNEW IT
I run non ethanol gas in both my Harley's (72 FLH & 98 FLSTF) most of it is 87 octane and they do fine.
I know all about jumping into the unknown and taking a road trip. It’s our life now. And it’s awesome!
HELL yeah
Was glad you made the journey. Far better than I did.
Give thanks in all circumstances
A motorcycle accident has prevented me from coming down to Texas and meeting everyone . ride safe and have an amazing time and most important have a Beer for me.
Never question yourself and your abilities . You alone only know what you can or can not do . An amazing adventure but you had the best partner on your side . Need I say more . American Honda ....
This right here is why you are the best motovloger. Great adventures out of nowhere with a great message in there too!!
Glad you decided to take the trip and made it safely! Got to meet you on Saturday at the motofest, we took pics towards the end of the day and that was great!
According to The GL 1200 service manual, it can run with an Octane of 86 or higher . This is for the 1986 model.
Shadetree Surgeon, Thank you for taking us along on your trip to Dallas at Get Along Motofest
@4:56 that looked like a spot in Mississippi that says gas at that exit, but its another 5 miles down the road. I was on a sporty and was already on fumes, it died and I literally rolled up to the pump. 3.4 gallons in a 3.3 gallon tank
Great video Josh. Glad you guys had a great time and made it back safe.
Your right I like to still push it on my 2013 Gold Wing min 300 mi with a couple of breaks. Riding hard since 1983.; I’m 68.🏍
Gotta love living in Louisiana. Three daiquiri shops within 4 miles of my house
There can be only one Shadetree Surgeon!
There is nothing like taking a longer trip than usual and hitting that sweet spot after an hourish in where you just meld into everything.
Shadetree ends these triumphant videos like a dirtbag Socrates. I dig the impassioned speeches.
I work right across the highway from Berry’s on 49.. wish I could have witnessed Shadetree rolling through my town! That would have been great! Maybe next time... 💁
A thimble of Meth helps out immensely! 😂 glad you guys made it!! Awesome adventure Josh.
