    The Piper M600 was already a significant achievement from Piper. But here comes their best performing and fastest aircraft till date. The M700. No longer can TBM boast speeds in performance. The new M700 now pushes the envoloper with speeds north of 300kts in cruise. And you'd be burning 10 gallons of fuel less than the TBM.
    The M700 uses a bigger engine from Pratt & Whitnner with 100 more horse power. This allows better speeds but less fuel burn.
    Here are the stats of the M700
    Engine: 700 HP
    Range: Up to 2000 miles
    Speed: 346 mph
    Useful load: 2,220 lbs
    Price: $4.2 million

      You don't have to be rich, you just need to have the business tax write-offs and to get/afford the financing costs. I doubt that many buy the plane out-right. As the old saying goes, BMW drivers aren't rich, their in debt to their eyeballs.

    You don’t get max range with passengers. You can have someone in the right seat but that’s it. The TBM can be loaded full.

    Based off all the hype Piper tried to do you’d think the M700 would have been more interesting than a powerplant upgrade.

    Mike - the M600 typically cruises at 265-270 kts. The M500 is about 250 kts. The m700 will typically cruise at 290 kts. The difference is about 20-25 kts, not 50 kts like you stated.

    Eclipse twin jet does 330ktas on 50gph with a wider cabin. It's a little bit hard to spot the justification for turboprops to exist. A turboprop engine is also a fair bit more complicated than equivalent turbofan jet, meaning more expensive to make. Ironically pratt and whitney price the smaller simpler PW610 jet engines at the same million dollar price as this much larger more complicated turboprop. Just to be the whole problem. Which is why Eclipse should make their own engines and destroy P&W. It can easily be 10x cheaper and solidly profitable.

      Eclipse website say that the range of fuel burn is 48-69 for the 550, but beyond the efficiency argument the answer for why turboprop is takeoff and climb performance. A 550 takes off in 2400 ft and climbs at 2600 fpm. An M700 takes off in 2000 ft and climbs at 3400 fpm; thats a significant difference and can be the key difference between where someone can fly and how quickly.

      @@air-headedaviator1805 you might be able to take off shorter with less fuel and adapt that way but even if we said a turboprop has that advantage, it seems quite insignificant compared to the disadvantages, wouldn't you say.
