id say the quality has more than improved, your art work has really come into its own. if ,youtube ever stops paying the bills you could easily hire your skill out as an illustrator. appreciate the work you put into these videos they have been the highlight of my week for many years now and may, Idrath ever smile on your fortunes.
Agreed. Your artwork, editing, and storytelling ability really bring the worlds you create alive. Just game screenshots wouldn't do this, you have really created something special.
All these little "pointless" things you do like special underwater tombs is why you're so fantastic. What makes these dwarves feel so real and alive is when you do that. It's not part of the game, it's something you chose to do, and that's what makes me feel like these dwarves really do have a unique culture and view on things. I love how you do that, how you give so much life to every world you make.
I love the cavern wars. I had a fortress where there were dozens of trogladytes a year, and a seemingly endless horde of these little lizard guys. I had a huge, open cavern, and had gone down to farm. Had to seal in the farms, and have constant patrols around the exit into the cavern, with an airlock where guards were constantly stationed. It was constant bloodshed. Eventually, i didnt even train troops. I sent noobies on patrol, and my elites got the joy of extra off months and guarding the airlock. Some of the original ones had killed hundreds of enemies by the time i left the fort behind.
This episode has really inspired me to pay a little more attention to my dwarves' rooms and personal preferences. There are often too many names and bodies to keep track of in a bustling fort, but taking the time to tailor a room to a specific dwarf every now and then seems like a great way to get to know them and remember who's who.
Also gives a nice incentive to make slightly bigger rooms, which is a more interesting challenge...the standard bed-cabinet-chest already fills three spaces and although it's fine, it looks weird to fill the last one of a 2x2.
I was clapping myself on the back earlier today because I took the time to make a gold statue of my newly elevated baron for his throne room, and then I see what Krugg did and realize how much further I could have gone.
My dad passed away 7 years ago. Last night your voice and storytelling reminded me *so much* of him telling me bedtime stories, that I actually got up and got a book he used to read me, cried a bit, and went back to bed. Thanks for your art and your narrative. You've made me feel like a young kid again. Here's hoping when I have kids I can narrate as nicely as you do.
A Pelican Roc? Now, that is the stuff of nightmares, hehe. A bus sized bird swooping down and scooping everything in its massive bill before swallowing it whole. I am impressed by your creative spin (as always)!
My RimWorld instincts are crying out in frustration. Enemies should always be turned into a resource, a boon. Would it have been impractical to butcher the amphibian men, not so much for the meat, but for their hides and bones?
The mention at the end of the toads not wanting to reproduce made me remember why I now embark with 2 boars and 3 sows if I want to start a farming industry. Because once I ended up underground in a haunted biome with no livestock as the single boar I brought along had no interest in the sows I had penned with him. 😂
If taking the extra week is what has catapulted your art into the stratosphere then I'd say it's absolutely worth it. That Roc attacking ships piece is truly, in the artistic sense, sublime. Beautiful, majestic and terrifying.
Aye the pelican roc was a great idea. Real pelicans will try to eat anything,. If one was big enough to actually eat anything and everything, it would be truly terrifying.
Btw, one QOL change that I found very convinient is that you can know build floors & walls on existing constructed floors, though it does destroy tthe floor you build on. (it'll be empty space if you rip out the new one) Just passing this tip since you were removing some of the flooring to put in new ones the old fashioned way.
i really need to start paying more attention to my dwarves needs, the way you cater to their preferences is really admirable and adds so much character to the fortress
I have to thank you for making this content. I look forward to every episode. In an odd way it is nostalgic... it takes me back to short absurd stories my father used to write and record on tapes to listen to as a kid when my parents left on trips to help me fall asleep. So... thanks
I imagined the entire base fortress level of Scorchfountain with the crazy maga forge and expanse layout seemed like a big project. Though my favorite, though probably not the most complex, was the grand tomb in Skullhorror. It was so pretty and designed with the intent of honoring the dead but also respecting that they would rise again.
It is really pleasing to see your drawings and hear you storytelling voice. And, when I think you reach your limit, you just keep improving. You are are a great artist.
Frogstomp is the Guts of DF. Also I love the art switchups, I love the different take on the goblins and the way you drew that beast was unique and so cool! Top shelf stuff as always Krugg thank you :)
Love the statues you keep putting up to commemorate big events. Honestly I teared up when you gave the single mom a statue of her beloved daughter. Also digging the way you are honoring wounded soldiers. Really taught me something about trying to care a bit more for my dwarves instead of treating them as just automatons to be disposed when their "usefulness" is over.
I feel like this series is so promising and I love it so much! Your artistic take on the goblins and kobolds are very interesting too, I didn't agree at first but it's so nice to get a new perspective on them! Just really amazing, the best series you've made so far.
The memorials of big events you build in the game are such a cool idea. The attention to detail in this fort is amazing! I wish, I could explore it as an adventurer, once the series has come to an end.
the roc is absolutely perfect i cant get over it. like its kind of one of those designs that feels intentionally goofy, sort of a monster hunter type thing, but the reveal that no, it's not just a big pelican, it's a pelican in the evolutionary niche of a WHALE but still somehow capable of flight like... compresses the goofiness into an alien beauty and menace. it also makes it all click and somehow feel sensible, like yeah if any environments going to support a bird the size of a skyscraper its going to be the sea and that bird is going to look REALLY silly until it gets territorial. idk it just sort of got me!
Bless my beard! yet another gripping installment. Love the illustrations of the Deep Ones. Reminds me of my younger days in Innsmouth. May your plump caps be bulbous and burgeon x
The Roc-Pelican interpretation is really awesome... Love the image of it diving down on longships! Just terrific! And yeah, the custom bedrooms are superb... and a very good explanation to the limited amount that you can progress in an episode: Setting up custom images for each figurine/statue, matching furniture to fit each occupants preferences... That takes a while, but its attention to detail that I truly love. Thanks for taking the time to walk through all of them with us in this episode! This series is glorious and if it stretches out a bit longer, all the better! Cheers, Ivan :D
Amazing work. Those underwater tombs sound like a whole fortress level project and they were breezed through with style and only a little bit of flooding. Truly Idrath has blessed this fort.
I'd just like to say how much I appreciate you and your videos. if there's ever been a better argument for quality over quantity, then the example you set is as close a second as I can imagine. Truly, a diamond in the rough during these times of 15 second clips that are just sampling a bit of audio and showing a little skin.
The coal coffer and mug make me worried. I remember once someone made a lignite container for me. It got caught on fire. It never went out. Ever. It burned. Forever.
I like how the Roc is drawn like a stork or a pelican. It makes sense for there to be seagoing variants of the giant birds that are different from the mountain varients. Plus it looks cool.
I truly believe that the combination of your skill in discerning and telling interesting stories and your unique art makes you a one of a kind creator. Love the series!
It always amazes me how the quality of these videos keep improving! For example the background audio with the metal clanking and the flowing water add sooooo much to the vibes of these videos. I can’t imagine how much work you put into these videos but it shows. Keep up the great work 👍
And yet another great episode! I got to agree with ya, the interior design of this fort is just top notch man (the whole layout as well, it's so alluring to look at and imagine). Love the old school western style clips at the end. Praise to Idrath!
Whatever you're doing Krug, keep it up. This is probably my favorite fort you've done. It's very grand, and I like that it's basically a sequel to your last one. May you receive all of the kolbolds luck
More than worth the 2 week wait! I adore how the bridge is coming along. Your guided tours of your fort and the stories of the people in it elevate the narrative experience of Dwarf Fortress the way that the pixel sprites have elevated the gameplay. Thank you for sharing all that beautiful art and weaving the narrative strings that DF offers into something so fun to follow!
The fight with the amphibian men really takes me back to my days of playing EverQuest and grouping in Guk; the old home of the frogloks back when the Trolls still inhabited Grobb
No idea if this will be seen but I was watching and got fixated on the grates in your farmers workshop area and was wondering why those are there/what benefit they provide. Love your videos to death, hope you enjoy makin em as much as I do watchin em!
I just want to point out that the "good luck kobold" came from nowhere other than Krugg's creativity here, and has lent just such a wonderful little flavor twist to everything else that's going on. All the dwarves are great, until they go crazy. Keep perfecting that amazing bridge you bastards.
Thanks KRUGGSMASH for sharing your fun with us. edit: I love your commentary endings ^^ my 2 cents, maybe balista and catapults facing both sides of your bridge fortress?
That Horde of Raiders at the start? A great fight indeed! I enjoy a lot what you do here Krugg, this Fort is a pure joy to watch For dispatching those Bodys in the mine : How about digging a hole and throwing them into it? Out of sight... out of mind...you know?
I really appreciate the content, art, and storytelling you put into your videos, please keep it up. I recently found you and have been digging through your old stuff, great content much appreciation. I also liked the live updates, a cute little touch.
The fishing fort is what I immediately think of when i think of "amazing things" you did. I think everything you build looks amazing, but yea the bridge is stunning. I love the dwarves living on it and seeing all the hustle and bustle going across. TH-cam isnt where the money its, its patron and he does good there.
Agreed. Your artwork, editing, and storytelling ability really bring the worlds you create alive. Just game screenshots wouldn't do this, you have really created something special.
illustration is tough even for skilled artists, but yes I'm loving Krugg's matured art abilities and style
Could probably even write comics based on dwarf fortress.
Very talented
All these little "pointless" things you do like special underwater tombs is why you're so fantastic. What makes these dwarves feel so real and alive is when you do that. That is one of the reasons I love having only one master of each craft.
Craftmasters get big rooms, combat heroes and artifact creators too.
"You know what flavor pairs really well with dwarven wine? Coal." - People in Northbridge
My dad passed away 7 years ago. Last night your voice and storytelling reminded me *so much* of him telling me bedtime stories, that I actually got up and got a book he used to read me, cried a bit, and went back to bed.

A Pelican Roc? Now, that is the stuff of nightmares, hehe. A bus sized bird swooping down and scooping everything in its massive bill before swallowing it whole. I am impressed by your creative spin (as always)!
I love the artistic liberties you took with the creatures of this world. I especially like the elves design.
the roc this episode was pretty great too.
Same. Different artstyles make each fortress feel like an entirely different game.
Slaying a horde of Ribbit Raiders is surely a good way to start the episode. Idrath be praised indeed!
Also, that Roc design is awesome
@@PNyka628 yup, it rocks! 😅
Ribbit Raiders is the name of their band.
Praise be!
My RimWorld instincts are crying out in frustration.
Enemies should always be turned into a resource, a boon.
Would it have been impractical to butcher the amphibian men, not so much for the meat, but for their hides and bones?
I like the idea of giving veterans and heros special bedrooms. Have to do that my next game
Damn, the buildup for that Roc to just get absolutely bodied by a single dwarf LOL
The mention at the end of the toads not wanting to reproduce made me remember why I now embark with 2 boars and 3 sows if I want to start a farming industry. Because once I ended up underground in a haunted biome with no livestock as the single boar I brought along had no interest in the sows I had penned with him. 😂
I love how your Roc is a seabird, since the fort takes place over the ocean. It's a wonderful touch.
I still love the bridge idea so much, it’s so cool. Epic project!
Same

Just passing this tip since you were removing some of the flooring to put in new ones the old fashioned way.
Is there any benefit to building floors on top of walls?
The benefit is merely that it is fewer steps than deconstructing the wall *then* building a floor.@@Matthew-uy6lc
Nothing brings me more joy than finding a new Krugg video posted after a long day of work
I'm loving how different the creatures are in this world!
The artwork really makes these vids for me. Great stuff ❤
I chuckled at that Pelican Roc. I know pelicans can be scary, but it was stull funny.
You should alter child chores to keep them safe. Disable refuse, wood hauling etc. They don't follow burrows, which hopefully gets fixed.
21:10 You made her a statue of her dead daughter, outof the bones outof the animal that killed her daughter.
That's pretty metal 🤘
This fort is really coming together Krugg! Thank you for sharing!
i really need to start paying more attention to my dwarves needs, the way you cater to their preferences is really admirable and adds so much character to the fortress
I'm okay with the reduced schedule.
The has indeed improved and your outlook on life has also improved with it.
This is definitely your best fortress so far. You've made the dwarven Byzantium.
I have to thank you for making this content. I look forward to every episode.
In an odd way it is nostalgic... it takes me back to short absurd stories my father used to write and record on tapes to listen to as a kid when my parents left on trips to help me fall asleep.
So... thanks
This made sad and happy. Nostalgia, yes. A good word for out

The amount of thought and effort you put into those "special" bedrooms is astounding, I hope the dorfs appreciate the work.
Would be cool to build gate houses on either end of the bridge, and each end could be it's own barrack's
Agree!
Frogstomp is the Guts of DF. Also I love the art switchups, I love the different take on the goblins and the way you drew that beast was unique and so cool! Top shelf stuff as always Krugg thank you :)

The way you narrate what happens, combined with the beautiful art and editing, really makes every moment you play this game absolutely fascinating
i cannot be feasibly expected to articulate the sheer joy of seeing a new kruggsmash video pop up on my HUD
shit's incredible man
This series makes me aspire to great things in DF.
the roc is absolutely perfect i cant get over it. like its kind of one of those designs that feels intentionally goofy, sort of a monster hunter type thing, but the reveal that no, it's not just a big pelican, it's a pelican in the evolutionary niche of a WHALE but still somehow capable of flight like... compresses the goofiness into an alien beauty and menace. it also makes it all click and somehow feel sensible, like yeah if any environments going to support a bird the size of a skyscraper its going to be the sea and that bird is going to look REALLY silly until it gets territorial. idk it just sort of got me!
pelicans are horrifying honestly, imagine being stuck in the pouch of a giant one...
I adore the pelican roc!
Bless my beard! yet another gripping installment. Love the illustrations of the Deep Ones. Reminds me of my younger days in Innsmouth. May your plump caps be bulbous and burgeon x
Pelican rocs is now officially my favorite design choice you’ve made in a dwarf fortress series ever
The Roc-Pelican interpretation is really awesome... Love the image of it diving down on longships! Just terrific!

Excellent as always. I'd love to see the bridge in Stonesense at some point!
The coal coffer and mug make me worried. I remember once someone made a lignite container for me. It got caught on fire.
It never went out.
Ever.
It burned. Forever.
Your art and story telling fill this world to the brim with magic! I'm utterly enchanted!
The fan art of the different kobolds from across the various games is just spectacular.
As good as Northbridge is, I don't think anything will ever hold a candle to Scorchfountain for me.
My favourite is Waddlesquash
Honeystoker!
I like how the Roc is drawn like a stork or a pelican. It makes sense for there to be seagoing variants of the giant birds that are different from the mountain varients. Plus it looks cool.
I loved your other forts but for some reason this one is my favorite so far. I'm really happy I found this channel,
23:48
OK I don’t know if I was the only one thinking this, but that bird skull looks like it could make a really really good club.
I can't believe I actually gasped when Frogstomp killed the Roc by himself. This channel is so good!!
Krugg, an episode every week just burnt you out. You don't need to compare your output to a level that wasn't healthy!

The circular terror. Chestnuts. Maybe goblins are allergic to them?
Great art. Good pelican inspiration. Yay, doggy! Nice to see the traders using the bridge properly.
Whatever you're doing Krug, keep it up. This is probably my favorite fort you've done. It's very grand, and I like that it's basically a sequel to your last one. May you receive all of the kolbolds luck
Maybe the frogs need deeper water to reproduce?
You must be the best bedtime story-teller in the universe, absolutely love what you’re doing.
I like the depiction of the roc as a pelican-like creature! Very creative
The Roc being a giant pelican is an amazing idea, especially with it's pouch being ribbed like a whale's belly (and probably the size of one).
Looking forward to watching this! Thanks for the years of great content you bearded bastard!
Your videos are the whole reason I tried to learn dwarf fortress again and wound up buying the steam version when it released. Keep up the good work.
The pinewood chair, decorated with pine and encircled with pine was legendary 🤣
The fight with the amphibian men really takes me back to my days of playing EverQuest and grouping in Guk; the old home of the frogloks back when the Trolls still inhabited Grobb
Love the depiction of the Roc as a giant pelican, never really thought of Rocs as anything other than eagles before.
The way you designed that artifact mug is just stunning Krug. I’m so glad I got back into DF and your videos :] so inspiring!
I love the personalised rooms and the drawings of the statues, very fun.
I haven't commented in awhile, but I'm here since the beginning and I'm so happy to see how far Krug has come
No idea if this will be seen but I was watching and got fixated on the grates in your farmers workshop area and was wondering why those are there/what benefit they provide.
Love your videos to death, hope you enjoy makin em as much as I do watchin em!
If I remember rightly, it was to drain water dripping down from the porous rock ceiling during the warmer months.
Another great episode and the short clip of LumberKrugg at the end is cool. A big saw would be handy.
I just want to point out that the "good luck kobold" came from nowhere other than Krugg's creativity here, and has lent just such a wonderful little flavor twist to everything else that's going on.
All the dwarves are great, until they go crazy. Keep perfecting that amazing bridge you bastards.
some of the old flooding water projects had a similar scale, but I called it a few episodes ago - this is gonna be one for the ages.
Thanks KRUGGSMASH for sharing your fun with us.
edit: I love your commentary endings ^^ my 2 cents, maybe balista and catapults facing both sides of your bridge fortress?
The artwork in this episode is just top notch. I'm loving this fortress. And I really enjoy the steam version graphics.
That Horde of Raiders at the start? A great fight indeed!
I enjoy a lot what you do here Krugg, this Fort is a pure joy to watch
For dispatching those Bodys in the mine : How about digging a hole and throwing them into it? Out of sight... out of mind...you know?
Fortress looks really good, those new UI changes are truly great
Man your Dwarf Fortress series are always the best! I can't wait for episode 5!
I really appreciate the content, art, and storytelling you put into your videos, please keep it up. I recently found you and have been digging through your old stuff, great content much appreciation. I also liked the live updates, a cute little touch.
The roc design ❤❤❤ Those that don't know pelicans may be confused, but anyone who has stared down that fleshy, gaping maw will understand.
The fishing fort is what I immediately think of when i think of "amazing things" you did. I really wish you could implement that same water draining cage system here under the bridge, I was really sad to see that one be destroyed after only a few episodes. They really don't have much complexity for fishing in this game so it was really cool for me to watch.
Loving this series, the bridgefort looks incredible.
My brother you are spoiling us with such outstanding content
Please keep going strong!!!!!!!
Doing great. These recent episodes really are nice with the illustrations and everything. I liked the sped-up black and white video of you working on that tree near the end... definitely looked like one of those bits of film from the old days of video recording in the early 1900's or something. Keep up the good work.
The bridge is looking absolutely gorgeous. I think your asymmetrical bases are really cool also. Scorchfountain was a beautiful build. I think everything you build looks amazing, but yea the bridge is stunning. I love the dwarves living on it and seeing all the hustle and bustle going across. The underwater tombs was a great idea as well
Keep up the work oh holiest of brethren
I'm soooo excited to watch!! Clicking play now!
I love this fortress for its fantastic planning and nature as a megastructure. Please continue even if it takes more time. It is a wonder.
Your fort structures are so beautiful. Mine looks like slums.
Great video as always!
Glad to hear you are enjoying the steam version!
I just got into dwarf fortress on steam. I love it, and these stories or historical archives rather, are amazing.
Thank you for the episode! It was the highlight of my week!
Whaaaaaat that drawing of the Roc diving on the boats, too cool!
Loving the new series, and the art direction especially.
I really like how you have this "mesopotamian/persian/indian" vibe going in your drawings. Really refreshing to see as opposed to the usual typical dwarven vibe. I also like how you portray the kobolds and the goblins too.
Gotta say I absolutely love the variety and diversity of all your dwarves. Love watching these videos!
