  • Martha Mitchell sits down for a TV interview with the incomparable Tom Snyder on his program, "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder". The program aired 5/1/74. Mitchell was the wife of President Richard Nixon's Attorney General, John Mitchell. During the Watergate period she was known for her public comments and for the inside information she dispensed to reporters. President Nixon told David Frost in 1977, “I’m convinced there would be no Watergate without Martha Mitchell". If you enjoy my videos, please "Like" and "Subscribe". Much Appreciated. Thank you for watching. @TomChasuk

Tom Snyder was the best conversationalist. He was a great listener who asked the most compelling followup questions which would lead the guest to reveal things about themselves they would not have otherwise talked about.

I remember when all this happened to Martha Mitchell. She was no phony. This interview is refreshing and tragic all at the same time. Seeing a coiffed, polished political wife actually being real and cutting through all the bs is surreal. The only other Washington wife who came close was Betty Ford. Thank you for posting!

@@TomChasuk I'm surprised that you have only 395 views in the past 24 hours! Especially since the Julia Roberts film introduced younger generations to Martha Mitchell and what was done to her. I vividly remember clips of Martha in a very distressed state broadcast on the news, accusing John Mitchell and Richard Nixon planning the Watergate break-in. This was back in either 1973 or 1974. I have never seen them again and don't know who got them to the TV station.

I probably don't have more views cause I'm a small channel, I don't have a niche and I'm not known, but hopefully people will share the video. Thanks again for watching.

Wow! This is chilling. Martha Mitchell was anything but crazy. She was the Cassandra of the Nixon Administration.
"I've never voted for Richard Nixon...[John Mitchell] left me with $945.00." Mrs. Mitchell was the essence of a Southern Lady. Unfortunately for her, she was a lady to spoke her mind.

Thanks! I search Tom Snyder often. I love his shows and interviews, even if I'm not interested in the guest. Tom makes all his interviews entertaining. He was great. My favorite late night host/show of them all.

Politics is crazy. What is worse is DC politics with it being the big leagues in the political world. I have a lot of empathy for Martha Mitchell taking on her own political party in the highest levels. Going on national tv and speaking her mind was a true act of courage. May she rest in peace. Funny how time flies as Watergate was now 52 years since the break-in of June 17, 1972. Sadly, all the main players save John Dean have now passed away. Time zooms by indeed.

This lady was done a grave injustice. People who think they have freedom in this country are fooling themselves. If something like that can happen to the wife of the attorney general, it can and does happen to anybody who might threaten to rock the boat a little.

@@TomChasuk It's all down to narcissistic and egotistical personality types (like Vladimir Putin) trying to pass themselves off as "know-it-alls" without backing themselves up with any facts. Such people NEVER HAVE any facts to support their positions - but are relying on popular stereotypes and disinformation in their stupid attempts to "prove by assertion" what they say - Joseph Goebbels style - telling the same old big lie often enough and loudly enough to make it appear to be the truth. There's a variant of Murphy's Law which says, "..if a thing is done wrong often enough, it becomes right...". It has the Joseph Goebbels method as its basis.

3:49 She's right ---they went in at least twice, and the second time was to replace a few defective phone bugs
Love the story of the rookie DNC staffer from California staying late on a Friday for the purpose of bogarting the WATS line to phone home (where it was three hours earlier) and thereby delaying the burglary crew until past midnite ---had they not seen an office light on from their lookout post, they'd've gone in earlier as planned and thus been less prone to arouse suspicion
