I think Joe means one of the greatest singer/songwriters of several centuries. Hopefully, Shane MacGowan will one day be widely recognized for his genius. If you're lucky enough to be deeply drawn into this music, (and this most beautiful of Pogues' songs), you realize what an incomparable, original talent MacGowan is. All soul. All courage.
Our man is pissed off his face, check the end of set footage. But who cares he still sings pure poetry the man is a genius. Shanes songs will be sung in hundreds of years
Never heard this song with the female background vocal before. Very nice.

As I walked down by the riverside One evening in the spring Heard a long gone song From days gone by Blown in on the great North wind. Though there is no lonesome corncrake's cry Or sorrow and delight You can hear the cars And the shouts from bars And the laughter and the fights. May the ghosts that howled Round the house at night Never keep you from your sleep May they all sleep tight Down in hell tonight Or where ever they may be. As I walked on with a heavy heart Then a stone danced on the tide And the song went on Though the lights were gone And the North wind gently sighed And an evening breeze coming from the east That kissed the riverside So I pray now child that you sleep tonight When you hear this lullaby. May the wind that blows from haunted graves Never bring you misery May the angels bright Watch you tonight And keep you while you sleep.
As maybe hundreds before'em, Shane's absolutely one of a kind...poet, singer, man of words, but certainly one of a kind. On our reckoning day, each of us either added to tbis world, took from this world or just stood by and watched....Shane without a doubt adds to this world...and the band played on...

As I walked down by the riverside
One evening in the spring
Heard a long gone song
From days gone by
Blown in on the great North wind.
Though there is no lonesome corncrake's cry
Or sorrow and delight
You can hear the cars
And the shouts from bars
And the laughter and the fights.
May the ghosts that howled
Round the house at night
Never keep you from your sleep
May they all sleep tight
Down in hell tonight
Or where ever they may be.
As I walked on with a heavy heart
Then a stone danced on the tide
And the song went on
Though the lights were gone
And the North wind gently sighed
And an evening breeze coming from the east
That kissed the riverside
So I pray now child that you sleep tonight
When you hear this lullaby.
May the wind that blows from haunted graves
Never bring you misery
May the angels bright
Watch you tonight
And keep you while you sleep.

Yes : he is a bard. You are right !
Perfect!
I was at the Town and Country Club gig
The Poet-singer speaks, ye must listen and learn and take heart.
quality
Loe the discalimer.
Yes, this song rocks. Shane, the poet, is god. Chane, the drunk, is a shame.
If this were my band, I would replace the bouzouki with a violin and the accordion with a concertina.
glad it's not your band
