The shroud is for smooth air flow and better fuel economy, just like an airplane wing is smooth on both sides. It is developed in the wind tunnel testing. It is a pain to remove every oil change, but it directs cool air over hot parts as well.
That helps road noise a lot. For only 5 minutes of time I'm leaving mine on. It's not on the lessor models. The airflow is there because you miss the flow that the non titanium ones have by having that shroud covering it, so they added that to compensate But you look exactly like my uncle Phil. Like, exactly like him.
When a youtuber DIYer tells you to remove a shroud or a cover and leave it off, I think it best to go to another video. It's there for a reason. That said however, it's good to know what I'm in for. I'll have to research that Fumoto valve.
Not there for any reason other than looks. 1st Gens had no cover and now new Edges have no cover.Makes great mouse bedding and houses mice under the cover. Plus holds heat.
6qts will make that Gen2- 2.0L TGDI engine last a long, long time! Love my '22 Edge SE AWD. Awesome vehicles. Get one while ya can! '23 is last yr folks.
Hey MACT instead of the short FL-910 oil filter you can use the longer FL-400 filter, it provides more filtration area. As long as you have enough clearance below the filter which it looks like you do. I've been using the longer FL-400 filter for years in Ford 4-cylinder engines which called for the FL-910.
Does it really help cool it any more than without the stupid cover? That cover retains all the engine heat, exhaust heat, turbo heat and AC heat etc in the compartment? The PTU compartment could be reshaped to retain more lubricant. Under designed.
Cool thing is I took your advice and left the Shroud off for the next Oil Change a my wife takes the car for a ride and a metal plate fell down and started dragging on the ground and now I have to drive to her to fix this
@@MACTFordEdge I fixed the plate as best I could and reinstalled the splash guard. Hers is certified pre owned with the max extended warranty they offer and I was told by many that it will void any warranty repairs if something kicks up and hits something and its missing the sheilds.
Good video. On 2020 Ford Edge, do not remove the bottom felt shield. There is a bare tube that hugs the oil pan, and it will be unprotected if the shield is removed. Also the felt pad plate screws holds the skid plate. Be careful.
Thank you for the informative video! I recently traded in my 2017 Outback for a 2021 Edge with 10K miles on it. So far the Ford is better in every way, except for the oil change. I use an electric pump that runs off the car battery to pump the oil out and the Subaru filter was at the top of the engine, I didn't even go under the car to change the oil. This set up stinks! I hope my Edge will be as durable as the Outback? I do see a black tarry looking substance by the valve cover. Should I have Ford check that out? Thanks again!
I have a 2015 edge titanium 4 cylinder 2.0 L Ecoboost i think im getting coolant to.the Engine but car drives good just initial start it vibrates . Can i replace it with a 2020 Engine or 2024 emginer will they fit ??
curious, do you think the 2 plastic clips should be released last? Are they supposed to hold the shield in place while you take the 11 or 12 bolts out?
Hey Mac, I’m surprised that engine uses 5w30 vs the 5w20. Probably because of the turbo. Nice job, hope you are doing good. I own a diesel, could you do some diesel oils. Thanks Rick
I am surprised you did not prefill the oil filter before installation. My others cars really growl until filter is full so I've learned to prefill to prevent engine wear.. please comment
For 100 years the bottom of the motor was never covered and they did fine even in the Northern climate. With this shield on the Engine cooling is affected and may reduce other component's life. Plus it can't be good in southern climates with the AC on all the time. Plus PIB to work on the bottom.
I live in Michigan where we often accumulate more inches of salt than snow. When I took that cover off my 2019 Nautilus I noticed rust on the frame from the cover holding the salt water up against the metal. I did replace it after the oil change but I really wonder if I should remove it for Winter driving.
I have the 2019 Ford edge with the 2.0 L I change the oil I put the valve on same as yours when I put the pan back on it actually touches it I’m wondering if that’s OK
@@MACTFordEdge hi yes the cover with the 11 7mm bolts I’m just concerned that the air intake port for the PTU is touching the open and close valve touching and eventually opening it.....because the motor is rocking back-and-forth as I give it gas ??? Any thoughts would be appreciated and Great videos keep them up
@@MACTFordEdge How reliable is the Oil valve over say 50K miles and up? Obviously, it is in a very harsh environment. Plus do u get compensated for the promotion.
@@PKwhl I have over 300,000 miles logged n these valves. I receive no compensation. I have no sponsors. Everything is out of pocket thus my own take on how they work.

The best oil you can use on ANY car is Mobil 1 5W-40 Diesel Syn. There is no better. Don't cheap out on oil or filter. Motorcraft 910 S. and any good Syn 5w-30. Best 5W-40 Mobile 1 Diesel
You can void the warranty if you use a non-recommended oil weight. Specs call for 5W-30. Don't mess with the Warranty. After it expires, put anything you want and mess around. But I would think that heavier weight oil can't help the FE.
The shroud is for smooth air flow and better fuel economy, just like an airplane wing is smooth on both sides. It is developed in the wind tunnel testing. It is a pain to remove every oil change, but it directs cool air over hot parts as well.
I remove that shroud at the first oil change on all my Ford Vehicles and discard.

I’ve done many oil changes. Always use fully synthetic oil. I us 5w30 Castrol. It’s good for 5000-8000 kilometres

My buddy who is a Ford mechanic told me that the plastic vent directs air towards the PTU to help cool it.
Does it really help cool it any more than without the stupid cover? That cover retains all the engine heat, exhaust heat, turbo heat and AC heat etc in the compartment? The PTU compartment could be reshaped to retain more lubricant. Under designed.
Does it really work. No idea but in slow city traffic I doubt it. Highway temps are about 145 degree and city it is about 160 degrees.
My 2018 EcoBoost Mustang 2.3 takes six it's at the top of the hash mark and below the top hole about a quarter for dilution. 😊

I wonder if oil change places remove that felt shield. And if not how would they change oil and filter

Skip to 12:00 to get past all the drivel and get to the actual oil change.

awesome. You're a funny guy!

Good engineering practice to prefill the filter. Less time to achieve oil pressure that way!
It is not necessary to prefill the oil filter. I used to work at a Ford dealership and the techs all told me that.
It is the same dipstick from the 3.5 and 2.0?? Ford edge
I own a 2020 Ford Edge ST. 2.7
Fully drained, the 2.7 EB takes a full 6 quarts.
That splash shield is to keep all the salt ,snow road stuff off the bottom of motor that valve will be rusted up in 6 months.

Why are u using cheap oil ??? I use castrol advanced full synthetic maximum performance. I highly recommend it
I was wondering the same thing?? Why not Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil 1, etc. I am guessing the oil meets specs... Why not??
Red line is high performance stuff. Not cheap at all either
Redline is one of the best oils on the market.
Was miserable change the oil filter of the 1.5L ecoboost, it is located in the front between a bunch of hoses and sideways, horrible.
Not to bad once you do them almost everyday.. I bend the one hose out of way for more access

Moral of the story dont drain or fill while on ramps!
Works for me for over 10yrs.
Never been a problem for me over the last 50 years!
Draining on ramps is good as it angles the pan for a better drain.

Shell 5w30 Rotella T6 much better!!!
They put in so much junk the engine has no way to breath. If the vent does let in air where does all the hot air go?
Cars were so much simpler before.
