I don't know why no one ever mentions Canadian Tire! Cheap and great winter clothing for winter coats and full waterproof winter boots. I find it so cheap at CT. Also another store would be Costco.

A few more tips at the top of my head: 1. Inspect the door weather strip and replace if needed before winter; 2.Check your snowblower to make sure it works and with gas supply; 3. Have enough supply of salts; 4. Check windows for drafts which will cause condensation and eventually moulds; 5. Have a small shovel in car; 6. Get CAA membership; 7. Get the right type of car window washer fluid and always top up; 8. Snow brush with scraper for car is important to have; 9. Before you shovel thick snow, always warm up and do stretches. 10. Toques and gloves become expensive and unavailable when winter comes - buy early; 11. SUV is preferred over sedan, AWD is better than 2WD, rear wheel drive is a no-no. Just a correction on outdoor faucet (hose bibb), there is a shut-off valve located inside the house and this is the one you really need to turn off and make sure you drain whatever water is left between the shut off valve and hose bibb. Have a safe and enjoyable winter!

Good morning and thank you for all the added tips that are written in the comment section. I believe I wasn't able to cover every detail for winter preparation. What I had in mind at that time were some of the tasks that are commonly overlooked, which makes a significant impact if it gets disregarded.
In addition, we also need to check our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors if they are in working condition. If they are hot wired, press the test button to trigger an alarm to know if it's working. If they are battery powered and not sure when it was replaced, better replace it and make it a habit to replace it atleast once a year. I would also suggest to have a dehumidifier enough to cover the whole basement. This will keep your basement dry and prevent molds specially when the snow melts.
With regards on the type of vehicle for winter driving. I believe having an AWD or a 4x4 is good to have but not a necessity, specially if you are living in the city where snow are plowed daily. But if you live in rural area, then having that feature is a necessity. Some of us might down play on using winter tires because on the area where we live -- personally for safety and over all road handling, I prefer to use winter tires. Keep in mind, it's not just traction but most importantly your ability to break at a shorter distance when roads tends to be icy and more slippery whether you are using AWD or FWD.
Here's a video clip that I would like to share to break the myth of awd being the best option for winter.

Last but not the least, make sure to plug your block heater if the temperature is below -10'C. Atleast 2 hours before you go or better get a mechanical timer for it. 😊

@@patdelasalas7842 pag open mo ng hood ng sasakyan, may parang plug yan na naka tabi sa gilid ng battery or opposite side, yan ang plug ng block heater. Check mo if you have time, dito sa SK normal sa sasakyan ang may block heater.

Luckily, I don’t use heavy jacket here in Victoria, BC. No winter tires but all season lang. If we have snow, 1-2 days lang and after that melt na in the few days.
