On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. This is a great video. I live on just one acre and I retired a little early, four years ago. Shortly after that I moved to my version of a homestead and have been chipping away at feeding myself and sharing my abundance as well with my family. I live alone, so it isn’t always easy, but I love most of it. I love my bees the most. I put a small orchard in, and I am praying for some fruit this year. I get so much joy from growing and preserving and foraging all the yummy things. It’s winter here now🇨🇦 and I haven’t been to the grocery store since October and I only buy what I can’t grow. I love your videos. Have a wonderful productive weekend 😊

So glad you grabbed your dream 😊 I also have a small homestead I paid mine off and I am still working but look forward to taking early retirement but trying to work 5 more years but with economy like it is if I get laid off at 61 I will be taking retirement once unemployment runs out. Hoping that doesn’t happen since I have this stupid high car payment 🙄

This video was beautiful! As Michelle said, "Partnering with God ." to put food on your table is the most amazing way to raise children. The way you are raising your children is what produces grateful adult people. All countries need that! Cody and Michelle, you are a great example of humility, hard work, and God-fearing.

Totally agree with you. I cry several times during the video because it touched me so much.
I was the kid who grow up without knowing any of this and my whole life is a “non-appreciation” moment until one day I choose to live in a farm and my whole new world change.
This is what children- the new generation should be taught and raised. Thank you for already making first steps

Your point about growing and valuing food is so so important. I always wondered "why is the cabbage so expensive at the farmers market? or carrots?"... until I tried growing them myself and failed miserably. It made me appreciate those farmers and food so much more. We go out to eat once or twice a week (mostly for dinner) but I ALWAYS take leftovers home. Many reheat well and we simply have seconds the following day. Sometimes I get creative and add some of my own food and create a second dinner. I never understood why people don't take the food they ordered and paid for home.... loved this video (as always).

When we had a minimum pay job, we celebrated by going to a restaurant for dinner. I calculated that our meal cost us each one and a half hours of job time. Crazy. We now have some acreage, but no animals yet. Just garden which, thank God, was abundant this year. Love your videos.

Hi Codi and Michelle, what an awesome video and congratulations on the birth of Holly. I think it was extra special to discover her arrival at night and the Headlamp footage of meeting her for the first time. It is wonderful that Maddie has such a good relationship with you that she trusts you with her calf and she doesn't seem to mind you interacting with her. I like how you and Michelle switch off sections to narrate in each video.
Hope your thinking of what you want to do for a video when you reach 100,000 subs, as the way your channel is growing it won't be long.

Great video I can relate, indeed the joy and sense of accomplishment from working on the land and nurturing the living is unique. Also the gratitude we feel from receiving a bounty of fruit, veggies, seeds etc. from generous mother nature is humbling. Our modern wasteful Western societies are disconnected of the land and food production, sadly it is a symptom of declining empires seen throughout human history.

Homesteading is hard! But the rewards is what keeps me going! I chose to raise my meat chickens, had rabbits but they got to big for me to handle alone, I grow as much as I can possibly do on my 10-12 hr day work weeks in spring summer fall. It keeps me busy and sometimes I feel overwhelmed … but filling my pantry with foods I couldn’t do on my paychecks , I so wish I had bought a bigger property back in 2001 but for so long I had been just me and didn’t ever think I would be so into raising and growing my food so I just bought .68 of a acre I use my whole back of my property for my garden and it’s plenty growing verticals , I share gods bounty with fellow Christian’s like the Lord wants me to give eggs out also, the Lord gives me what I need and to store up and the rest I help others, the feeling is awesome. Thank you so much for your vids and showing people you don’t need huge plot of land to provide well for your family

We make a valiant effort to grow as much of our food as possible too. You aren't wrong about how some folks excessively waste food. I work at way too many remote work camps and people throw away so much all the time. Enough to likely feed a small village everyday without exaggerating.

  • @thisnthatcormak

Holly is absolutely adorable. She has a really cute pattern. My husband and I feel as if we are starting to be abnormal in this day and age. We absolutely hate to waste or throw food away and our younger siblings and friends are those people leaving half or more of a plate of food at a restaurant or at someone's house. Drives us crazy. If we're getting sick of something I will find some way to preserve it and finish it later. You should both be proud of the way you're bringing up your children. I mentioned in a comment in one of your other videos that our 3.5 year old daughter helps us with our hay business and she loves helping me in the garden no matter the task. I no longer have my horses and any animals right now but someday I'm hopefully we will be doing a bit more of what you're doing. For the time being we visit friends with a dairy farm quite often. It's amazing how children who live the farm life or some of the farm life thrive. God has truly blessed us. Merry Christmas to your family and wishing you all a blessed new year.

Great video guys. I have been wanting to homestead since I was a child and I have done all that I can with our current tiny homestead. The feeling of satisfaction in the work you mentioned is exactly how I feel. Knowing my family, my children, and people we share our bounty with are going to reap all the benefit from our family’s labor is what makes it rewarding for me. Of course delicious fruit is the cherry on top.
We can’t afford to buy most fruit, so we grow our own and like you said, the abundance is incredible. We can’t have animals beyond chickens/ducks where we are, but next year when we buy our big homestead I already know the cow and the cream will be my favorite part…..also the alpacas for wool 😊

Thank you for your videos. You have motivated me to put in a garden and preserve what I grow (and grow sprouts!). I grew food for my family for years, then ended up as one person and moved to a small house with a small yard. But I can grow beets, green beans and tomatoes to eat when they are in season and to preserve (make sauce out of the tomatoes). I will have enough cucumbers to share with my neighbors. Got a cold frame to grow lettuce in the winter (I am a Texan). If I can manage to have a pest free garden and cold frame, I will have healthy food and have some degree of food freedom. No more pesticides!

Quite enjoyed the messages in this video. Makes me ill to see the food waste as well. I have been checking out your other video's as I was not sure I needed yet another channel to watch but because I am liking what I have seen thus far, I have decided to subscribe. I am 26 hours NW of you...little different climate but some similarities too.

You need to remove those wrappings from the round bales. The cows can ingest them and it can strangulate their bowels killing them.

Thank all farmers for all their work. It is disgusting how much food is wasted in this country. People should be made to do an internship on a farm for a week during peak gardening season. Having each person assist in farm to table meals. When you put in the sweat equity, you begin to understand why it shouldn't be wasted.

We have a small homestead and I can so resonate with the feelings of joy, value, abundance and satisfaction. You guys are so inspiring! Keep up the good work!
In another video you guys had said something about trying to find different ways to eat oatmeal. My family had been making overnight baked oatmeal for years and we love it and its so easy. Here's our recipe in case you want to try it.
At night, mix together in glass measuring cup,
    2 cups Kiefer
    3 cups oats
3/4 cups evaporated cane or coconut sugar or sucanot
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 stick melted butter
Cover and let sit on counter overnight. in the morning, add,
    2 eggs
    1 tsp salt
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 cup raisins
Pour into greased 9x13 pan and bake in preheated oven at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
We serve it with homemade yogurt, agave, and ground flaxseed. Soooo good!

Great video and I think it's great the values you are teaching your children. No you are not being wasteful by any means concerning tomato water or buttermilk. People just don't understand ALL the aspects of a homestead. God bless and take care

I too love milk. It's just so delicious. I hardly ever hear anyone declare their love for creamy, sweet cow's milk. It's fallen out of favor with a lot of folks but give me a nice, tall ice cold glass of milk and I'm in heaven. 😊😋

In one of your videos you talked about different gadgets you use on your farm. One thing was some kind of a tool you used to suck up bugs from the plants in your garden. What was it called and can you explain a little more about it?

I loved this video! Your family is learning valuable things living on a farm! You both are so grounded & I appreciate that so much! I don’t have a lot of land but in my small yard I’ve been gardening for years & making my own bread & cooking from scratch. We also can & freeze dry stuff too to preserve what I grow. Thanks for the inspiration! 🫶🏻

I agree with you on the abundance!! I get so much why from the dairy products I make that there is no way I’d be able to can or freeze it AND store it for later use. But it does go to the animals or composts 🙌🏼. I’m so glad for you about the healthy birth!! That’s a good feeling when nature “does it right” and you don’t have to intervene 😊. Excellent reasons and video!!
