Thank you! This is such a fascinating subject for me, that I even have a web site catering for car manufacturer names and history. (At the moment I am having to rebuild the site, but I am happy to cooperate with info etc. if anyone wants). For starters: I believe (happy to be corrected) Alfa was actually founded by Ugo Stella or similar. He bought Darracq's Italian facilities and licences. Darracq was French and networked with Opel, Talbot & Sunbeam, but an Italien facility should produce pure Italian cars. That was the vision and start of ALFA. But despite the excellent network, to then turn pure Italian was probably a contradiction and such wasn't financially viable. What the abbreviation ALFA stands for is absolutely correct. But it was Alfa and the logo showed Alfa Milano. Only later Nicolas Romeo bought himself into the company and also changed the name and logo to Alfa Romeo. Next there are a lot of names missing, but I quickly figured the system you show it only allows for 1 name per company? The video's way is far better to keep track for new fans, but sometimes it simply leaves gaps. I.e. Rolls Royce was not only founded by Charles Rolls, but by Henry Royce as an equal partner too, of course. Same with Renault, it was not only Louis Renault. He formed Renault with his Brother Marcel Renault. It was the French that formed motorsport to marked cars as "nothing to be scared of". Apparently especially Peugeot started motorsport because they already did bicycles and raced them. But then Marcel Renault died in a motosport incident and Louis carried on alone. At about the same time Panhard co-founder Emile Levassor also had a fatal motorsport crash. So this was when French Peugeot and Panhard started to invent motorsport regulations, the start of the FISA or FIA. And indeed also the reason why many motorsport names are French as i.e. parc fermé and the often seen spelling of Rallye with an "e" at the end. Most intriguing nowadays maybe is that the first motorsport events compared steam, electric and petrol. Petrol was the newest development and won over steam and electric. At the same time Karl Benz's "Patent Car", the Patent was not at all about automobiles, it was about the combination of auto and petrol. Today with EVs Mercedes is cheating their own history! Not enough with that, Benz did not want Gottlieb Daimler to sell his engines to France and here to Panhard and Peugeot. So Daimler sold his licences to William Lions of Jaguar! This then clears up why in UK is/was a company called Daimler. It is indeed Jaguar who has the rights to the Daimler name and not Mercedes at all thanks to an argument between stubborn Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler! Trying to keep it short (you are welcome to ask and discuss, there are so many variables....) I do LOVE the subject of WHERE DO NAMES COME FROM: André Citroen, Armand Peugeot, Henry Ford, it nearly starts getting boring that company names are as simple as founder's surnames. But August Horch is an interesting one. First of all he started the luxury car brand Horch. That went bankrupt and was sold. Then he restarted but now there already was a car brand named "Horch". He had no rights to his own name any more and Audi simply is Latin for Horch. Even more curious today is that Audi uses the wrong brand logo: The 4 rings are for the 4 brands that made Auto Union: DKW, Wanderer, Audi and eventually Horch again! NSU only came later. But 4 rings for 4 brands? Audi's REAL logo is actually an oval with the letters, very similar to Ford, only in Burgundy rather than Blue! With Skoda, it was not only Vaclav Laurin but also Vaclav Klement. The name Skoda curiously came after a take over from Skoda Pilsn, which to the day is an independent company making busses and trains. This makes it quite ironic that after VW takeover Skoda kept its Skoda name instead of returning to L&K. Skoda really has got nothing to do with original Skoda, which still exists as a maker of electric busses! Opel is another interesting one when talking how history and "equal rights" changed. Adam Opel handed over the company to his sons even before they turned from sewing machines to cars. Interesting is that Adam Opel had a daughter Irmgard, and simply because she had the wrong sex Irmgard received no shares in the company. In protest Irmgard then started her own business and went into crisps and biscuits together with her two sons. Anyone knows the crisps, biscuits, cookies company CHIO? Sure everyone has heard of Chio Chips? But did you ever know what this stands for? That the O in Chio is Opel? Carl, Heinrich, Irmgard Opel is CHIO! For finals, my favourite brand name in the meaning (by not just being a surname) is Datsun, today one of the most boring car brands, sadly! Again it was more than one founder. Datsun was founded by not only Rokuro Ayoma, but it was 3 of them, Kenjiro Den and Meitaro Takeuchi too! The initials of Den, Ayoma & Takeuchi made the DAT! The Sun is to make a clear link to Japan, after the Sun as the Japanese flag! Hope you enjoyed. There is a lot more, feel free to ask or discuss.

Most of the Japanese and Korean companies on here are conglomerates - that is, they have several divisions in several, sometimes completely different, industries. However, Mitsubishi is different than the others in that, while the others have their automotive divisions as their main focus, Mitsubishi's automotive division is more or less a side project. The others are car companies that also do other things. Mitsubishi is a do-everything company that also happens to do cars.

Adam Opel died 1895, Opel started building cars in 1899.

The Kia's founder name in Korean is written like this: 김철호(1905) and searching by images you'll a find a photo of him.
Please add Tun Dato Mahathir Mohammad because he is the founder of Proton berhad cars. 🇲🇾🇲🇾
He also founder of Perodua, Modenas motocycle 😅
Sakichi Toyoda had no idea what a massive empire of reliable motor vehicles he was creating.
Definitely back when Toyoda was the maker of sewing machine in the 20's and joined Japanese National Automotive Club as a hobby. Toyoda got a war contract for staff cars and armored cars for the Chinese campaign and the rest was history.

I work for Subaru warehouse. Just now realized Subaru wasn’t their first name. Used to be called Fuji heavy industries. From all the bumpers deliveries we get there’s 2 different boxes they come in. All the parts are named in the computer with different categories and one of them is “Fuji” the bumper boxes have a big sticker saying Fuji too. Was always confused about that. I learned something today
Audi was not started as one company but actually came out of a merger of 4 car companies. Andre Citroen was not French but Dutch.
But Audi dates back to A. Horch who left the “Horch Company“ and was legally forbidden to use his Name for another car company so he decided to call it “Audi“ which is the latin translation of his name... both are the imperative of “listen“
Ironically the company Horch worked for was merged along with Audi as they merged Audi, DKW, Horch & Wanderer into Auto Union

Well he was born i france and died there. When you take the forefathers origin, then every car company is from another country. Chryslers founder also emigrated from germany to US.
