    I remember videoing this layout at Shipley in 2015 while it was 'unfinished' and it was outstanding then ... and it just keeps getting better! Well done Kier and I hope that when this pandemic is behind us and we can have exhibitions again I can get another 'fix' of this inspirational layout.

    Absolutely love this layout. Remember spending a good hour or so watching this and talking to you at DEMU in 2019. 👍

    Aw I was blown away by this wonderful layout when I saw it in Glasgow last year - even the missus was impressed. There's just something about the way you've picked the colours that totally nails what I remember the BR blue era to be like from my trainspotting days. Thanks so much for posting, I'll be a regular viewer. All the best.

      I saw it there too, easily the highlight of the show and an absolutely stunning piece of work.

    It’s really striking how ‘Standardisation’ has never been achieved! And it is even further away now than it was in the 1960s and 1970s

    Brilliant layout . I enjoyed seeing it at Glasgow . I enjoyed Wibdenshaw a few years previously too . And it’s great to hear sound of model trains as they are not the chirping of DCC 20s

    A stunning layout - I love the gritty realism of the buildings and the cabling along the retaining walls. It could easily be mistaken for the real thing. I did wonder what size the layout is? You run some wonderfully long trains, and seeing them running through the junction is something that I could watch all day!

    This is a beautiful layout and I've followed its progress via your website since much of it was still plywood!
    When I was at DEMU Showcase, I didn't get much time to see any layouts... but there was only one I really 'needed' to see!!
    Cheers

    Wow, as a pro photographer the only thing that stops this being mistaken for the real thing is the lack of natural daylight, though this is probably beyond your control. Other than that - the perfectly muted colours, the lack of gaps between the buildings and the ground, the trackwork (what make is it?) and the weathering so well done that you don't even notice it (that's meant as a compliment by the way) are near as dammit perfect. And the run down, slightly seedy look is exactly how I remember it from the time. Brilliant!

    Superb layout ..... Nice mixture of rolling stock .... Just a question at 14:20 about the freightliner rake : I don't think OCL ever had 30 foot containers ? ....

    • @kierhardy2789
      @kierhardy2789  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 30 ft OCL livery was based on B&W photos out of the book ‘Life and Times Series - Freightliner’ which had several 1970s images of OCL boxes…..but now I look more closely at those pictures they are all 20 or 40 ft - no 30s...It could be OCL never took any 30 ft, and I confess I never considered that. It was an easy livery to apply to the Triang/Hornby smooth side 30 box and I assumed that OCL must have had some…..but now I’m beginning to doubt this.
      Going beyond that, the livery may also be wrong for 1971?…..the earliest picture of that logo style in the book is March 1973, and it is next to a box with a square block outline only OCL logo which I believe pre-dated the slanted / filled-in version. People with more container knowledge than me may know the exact date the slant style was launched….the models were done with Wibdenshaw in mind and they were at least correct for that era

    MGR Traffic in North London? Where does it go and come from?

    • @kierhardy2789
      @kierhardy2789  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      6E43 was a MGR working from the Midlands to Northfleet cement works, routed down the midland main line, through North London, across the river, through Clapham Jcn and on to Northfleet. The working was usually hauled by a Class 47 with a Peak, and sometimes double headed Class 47s.

    Good layout,is the track wider on EM gauge?This is the sort of layout I would have,if I had the space.

      EM is short for eighteen millimetres - the track gauge is 18.2mm
