todd lithgow It goes for both the DB11 and the new R8. They are both spec dependent vehicles, but when in the right spec they're both outright beautiful.
Nice to finally see this car in a color more suiting for an Aston. It's a GT cruiser with power. I don't want to see it in baby blue. I want to blend in a little not to be the center of attention in a Aston.
Is it me or does the design of the rear wing really hark back to the James Bond DB5 Bullet-proof plate from Goldfinger? I wonder if that was intentional but either way, very cool.
That's exactly what I thought of the second I saw that. I agree it looks awesome and if it really is a nod to James Bond: even better. Aerodynamically speaking though, I wonder if this thing performs as well as something more spoiler-shaped...
the original Sean Connery AM was actually capable of almost the speed of sound (a well kept secret) and therefore needed a substantially larger rear spoiler. Because aerodynamics boffins back then would have been able to work out that top speed simply by way of the size of that enormous spoiler back then, they had to divert any suspicions, and so declared that the plate that popped up at the back... was only a "bullet shield". In fact it was a 700 Mph spoiler and air brake.
nice to see aston flourishing there resurgence started with the 77 then the vulcan now acouple of newer models and there special hyper model coming in 2018 i think
Yeah alternating banks means inline 6. That's also why you have to alternate banks to keep the cats warm. If it meant V6, then you would have a bit of exhaust going through them at all times.
Didn't like 07 Chevy tahoes use this with their v8s?.. maybe I'm wrong but I thought this was really old tech :/ I know lots of manufacturers use cylinder deactivation now
Mike seems to think the DB11 sounds as good as the DB9 and it doesn't. It has that muted sound all turbos do and loses the complexity of sound that the NA motor had. It's nice enough... for a turbo-charged car. The design is beautiful and an improvement in most or all ways. Especially aerodynamics. The design of the body rightly builds more on the Vantage than the DB9.
This is the sort of car where I am absolutely not sure if the design will grow on me and in 5 years it will be the best thing ever or if I will completely hate it after the design looses its novelty factor.
Selling my originonal 02' V12 VANQUISH 100% hand built from the newport pagnell factory for 175k with 10k pampered miles in the james bond die another day colors and spec if anyone is interested
There's gotta be a way I can pay them to make me a bespoke DB11 without any of the Mercedes gadgets. They make this look like an AMG GT with 4 more cylinders.
if they didn't want the cats to cool, why not just run it like a V6 while cruising? 3 cylinders burning on one bank, 3 burning on the other bank. that would have been clever...
Fun fact, Tesla Model S design is largely a ripoff of the Aston Martin Rapide, they just made it better in every way. Except for reliability. That's probably about the same :)
+Russell, it's quite possible they looked to that as well but pretty sure the Rapide was the core. Down to the flush door handles. Comparing them now, the Tesla is just so much better looking. And in an interesting twist, Aston is electrifying their Rapide. However pathetically.
Dan Frederiksen your kidding right, lol the Tesla looks like a premium hatchback at best lol. What are you smoking bro. I like the look of the model S but to say it looks better than an Aston is like saying BMW looks better than Rolls Royce. And how is it quite pathetically, they are working with Faraday Future to construct it. Also word goes it'll have 1000ps at the wheels.
I dunno about their cars, but our da' drives wagons for a living and he's said, for the last 15 years or so, none of the lads will touch the Merc lorries 'cause they spend more time in the shop getting fixed than they do on the road.... It's really put me off the Benz :/
Mercedes have been trading on their reputation for making tanks for years. In reality they have been making unreliable rusty washing machines for the last 20 years or so. They are now junk and an embarrassing shadow of what they used to be. All they are now bothered with is renting out their junk to as younger people as they can. The brand is now washing machine throw away junk. So sad
A lot of people wouldn't believe you if you told them that... I actually think there's some truth to it. The sterotype of them in the North of England is enough to put me off. A 190e Cosworth, tho'.... Fuckin', well aye!
They had some problems around 1996-2002 but have been top notch in terms of reliability after that. Some of their electronics feel a bit dated if anything.
For three hundred USA dollars ... I expect a dozen ROUND gauges including .. exterior air temp ... water temp ... oil temp ... transmission temp ... exhaust temp ... water pressure ... oil pressure ... Air /fuel ratio ... voltmeter ... turbo boost ... fuel gauge ... round clock ... .. maybe they can get Mercedes to add a second monitor to display the gauges... the red and yellow idiot warning lights on the existing dash makes it appear like a Chevrolet Corvette. ... most people want to drive this thing on long trips .... 2000 + kilometers New York to Florida on i95 when the temperature is 95F. .... to do so we want to be able to monitor and audit ENGINE and fluids performance .....
Mike has come a long way with his coverage. I Used to skip over his content but I'm finding myself enjoying him a lot more these days.
He's always been a fantastic writer, screen presence just takes practice, it would seem!
It's a beautiful car. Wasn't digging it at first, but this car is continuously growing on me.
DannyLlerenaTV Agreed,I thought the same about the new shape r8,didn't like it at first, but the more I saw them the more I liked them.
todd lithgow It goes for both the DB11 and the new R8. They are both spec dependent vehicles, but when in the right spec they're both outright beautiful.
DannyLlerenaTV the more you see them in person the more you can’t help but want one.
I can't wait for Doug Demuro to buy one in nine years.
With an UNLIMITED MILE BUMBER TO BUMPER WARRANTY

Nice

Great catch! Very possible.

Oh man, its such an awesome car, my inner aero nerd went crazy at 3:46 thats an awesome design.
That's on the 2017 NSX too. Not quite sure who did it first though.
I love Spinelli. He has got this composed yet frank sense of realism about him. No BS, just gimme-it-straight kind of dude.
Abe Lincoln His style has matured.. He seems more confident..
Kinda sad they got rid of the key insert, I found that incredibly cool.
Isn't switching between which cylinders deactivate also done to keep wear even between the cylinders?
LoL 2:50 Scraps the side of the car with grass
One of the most elegant and beautiful cars today
Toshio P I assume the fiat multipla is your favourite car design
This feels like it was filmed entirely on gopros, has a weird feel to it.not the biggest fan compared to your typical stuff.
I like how in 5:20, Mike winced before even touching the paddle shifter.
I really enjoyed this peice. Top man and a top car
nice to see aston flourishing there resurgence started with the 77 then the vulcan now acouple of newer models and there special hyper model coming in 2018 i think
Aston Martin's biggest friend is James Bond 007.
Definitely
That colour really works for that car. Lovely brown interior too.
So Mike... are DerekD, Erica, AK and the gang coming back anytime soon?
When you say it alternates banks, does that mean it runs as an inline 6, and not a v6 in economy mode?
Vikram Krishnan Good question. I don't know.
Vikram Krishnan v6 obviously lol.
Yeah alternating banks means inline 6. That's also why you have to alternate banks to keep the cats warm. If it meant V6, then you would have a bit of exhaust going through them at all times.
Didn't like 07 Chevy tahoes use this with their v8s?.. maybe I'm wrong but I thought this was really old tech :/ I know lots of manufacturers use cylinder deactivation now
why alternate between banks for fuel efficiency rather than just alternating cylinders on both banks? that way you won't get cold cats...
txrangerkidd222 that probably gives you a balancing issue
Aston Martin is being owned by TaTa and components for the DB11 were supplied by Mercedes-Benz how is that independent?
You're thinking of Jaguar
/DRIVE welll the merc part is acurate
Only the infotainment is Mercedes-derived. Everything else, including the engine, is pure Aston.
So? BMW and so many (for example) uses ZF transmissions, does that mean that they are dependent of them?
it's a beautiful looking car I really like the design
You have done a very nice review. Thumbs up.
what do you mean you don't lose the noise? do you mean to say this sounds like the DBS or a DB9?!
Bring back Fast Lane Daily.
Mike seems to think the DB11 sounds as good as the DB9 and it doesn't. It has that muted sound all turbos do and loses the complexity of sound that the NA motor had. It's nice enough... for a turbo-charged car.

Finally the video is not private anymore ! Jeezus ! 😡
Well fuck me, did not even know the DB11 was out. It's glorious.
the V12 sounds pretty muted... pretty disappointed in that... not like I can afford one anyway LOL
Love it
how much is this selling for?
In general a Beautiful car... until you see the back! Oh my God... Why this edge and tail lights?
power? torque???
Next one for 007 ?
"Bonded system" ...I saw what you did there.
Yeah. I was like "did I just hear that??"
Jason Lau I swear I would've missed that :)
It does sounds good, but you can definetely hear it's a modern turbocharged engine wih a modern gearbox.
I didn't know Jimmy Fallon reviewed cars...
That is a such a beautifull car engine sound
i didnt think aston martin was the mosy beautiful car before there were ok looking but now this looks sexy
Is this Austin Powers ?
I like this guy. Good video.

how much HP?
blueman24 600hp
I am ASTONished.
catilytic converters don't make a vehicle more efficient. they make it less efficient. they are for emissions only
There's gotta be a way I can pay them to make me a bespoke DB11 without any of the Mercedes gadgets. They make this look like an AMG GT with 4 more cylinders.
This Mike Spaghetti fellow, I've seen him before somewhere.
if they didn't want the cats to cool, why not just run it like a V6 while cruising? 3 cylinders burning on one bank, 3 burning on the other bank. that would have been clever...
MIKE IS NUMBER 1 !!
The styling of this car just isn't exciting, shame really.
I think this car was styled pre-Brexit. lol
Dead End haha. that's a good one bro
My car has cylinder idling. Therefor, My car is Aston Martin.
It's kind of like a Tesla, just 20 years outdated.
Fun fact, Tesla Model S design is largely a ripoff of the Aston Martin Rapide, they just made it better in every way.
Except for reliability. That's probably about the same :)
I think you will find that the tesla looks a lot like the older Jag XF
Dan Frederiksen except engine sound, top speed, looks, need I say more.
+Russell, it's quite possible they looked to that as well but pretty sure the Rapide was the core. Down to the flush door handles. Comparing them now, the Tesla is just so much better looking.

That car looks great, but the sound was so boring, and the pop up spoiler looked so ugly.
The paddle shifters are boring. I want a straight manual.
Making a grand tourer a manual kind of defeats the point
This guys are "dead" without Chris Harris
Perfect
MB electronics haven't been reliable in recent years !
