- Racing my first track race back after a year of marathoning! Let's just say it didn't go to plan. Racing over a minute slower than my fastest 5k stung. Even though I literally say in the video that this race was just to see where I was at, I really did believe I could do something GREAT. That's alright though I am just out of shape and it's time to stop messing around. ALSO MICA SUB 16:00mins, first real track race back. She is in for an awesome season! Her video drops on SUNDAY.

It sucks racing when you're not at your fittest, especially when you've been putting in work. But the race is important information. Racing is honest; a hard race gives you nowhere to hide, but also gives you the knowledge you need to build from where you are. Otherwise, it's all guesswork. Your talent and cumulative workload is all still there. You're dealing with a lot that you didn't have to deal with at BYU, in addition to trying new distances and training. You'll get it all calibrated, and that ability and work ethic will show up in the results sooner rather than later. Keep your head up!
Race day is all a mental game
Be patient. Long terms gains from the aerobic fitness and strength of marathon training may take months (if not years) to pay off for the 5km-10km-half. When I qualified for the Olympic Trials in college (in a few marathon attempts) the following 12 months after that I had my best xc season ever (8km-10km) and then later that year ran PRs in everything from the 800m to the 10km on the track. It just takes time to recover from an actual marathon race and build that speed efficiency back sometimes. Stay healthy, positive and have fun!
Please don’t go dark, your videos are so inspiring. Love that you show the highs and lows or running. Both of you, keep up the great work.
i thought you might run 15:20, i was damn close in predicting that holy shit
its always interesting to see how your body remembers your peak performance. after all the marathon training, the illness during the winter break, i think 15:15 is an excellent start for a good year 2024, all the best!
racing when not fit is the most humbling experience there is - kudos for finishing and just treat it as the learning experience it is/was. lets go onwards from there, keep inspiring, grinding and being you
I know you thank us (the audience)for supporting you but it goes both ways. These videos (the goods and the bads of running) help me so much staying positive and support me. Currently I’m in a lower spot in my own training, but videos like these show me that I’m not alone and I’ll get over this hump.
I’m so happy for mica beating her personal best that is amazing
“Couples consulting with running” had me weak.
Thanks for such authentic content. It’s a huge head game most of the time so just keep at it with positivity and ride the ups and the downs. Keep it fun!
We all have rough races - don't dwell on it too much man you're an awesome athlete!
Keep grinding. Your videos inspire me to keep trying and most important....I don't feel alone in the lows of running. Love your genuine videos.
Appreciate the honesty! You're not defined by your times or results. Seriously you're such an inspiration to me and so many others, keep up the hard work
You and Mica motivate me to train harder and I am so excited to see what happens next!
Right there with ya Adam, I'm running in the 18's for 5k and normally in the 17's and it's frustrating as hell. Training well but I'll get there like you will. Well done for grinding on.
It’s so great the attitude you have of just keep going. It’s always how we use the past to better the future. You do a really good job translating that idea to your audience, we all human out here
Congrats to Mica, awesome result. I feel for you, I've been in the same place the last few months of racing and it hasn't been fun. Keep at it and the fitness should be back in no time
Thank you for showing such genuine emotions!
Congrats to Mica!!! Also thank you for this video because I needed to see this after not BQing in my recent marathon.
For me this was racing an 800 today when I’m in 5k shape… this video is helping me cope with my performance, so thanks Adam! We all appreciate seeing the highs and lows of running
Yes bro another legendary video! Absolutely beautiful vlog Boston is so nice!
I love the realness of these vlogs. Sometimes its just not your day and that's okay. Keep it up Adam!
Thanks for keeping it real. It means more than you may know to us newbies.
Sorry you had a bad race and at the same time I'm happy for Mica! We all have ups and down's because it's impossible to stay peak fitness all the time. You have a good chance of achieving greatness, much better than most! Keep fighting!
people would die for a 15:15, thats incredible! you will get back to your peak times and break PRs. I can feel it!!!!! keep pushing. it takes TIME. you are progressing, especially mentally.
Bro I know you’re going through a rough patch in your running right now, but I absolutely love your videos and am rooting for you! Keep going!
Keep going bro 🤝🏿 you got this
Hi...from the suburb north of NYC. First, as a Bostonian from Newton, it was terrific feeling like being back home. Too bad it was not later in the spring...being at BU means a short jog to Fenway to watch the Red Sox!!! So, that happy story you were looking for was the tape itself and what it meant to many of the runners who follow you. First, congrats to Mica!!!! Terrific to watch you run. Second, to Adam...your comments after the run showed that even exceptional runners have times that just do not meet their goals. I wish that I could express myself as well as you did when my goals are not met. Your standards are high and how you try and meet your goals are lessons for me. I'm never going to be a great runner or jogger, but what you teach me about setting goals and doing my best to reach them is what was happy for me in the video. Sorry that all did not go well but future times are down the road. Nice to see you at Whole Foods.

I love your videos Adam!
Thank you for posting this educational experience.
Appreciate you Adam
you inspire me brotha ❤
hey adam dont be too hard on your self you are a great runner we have faith in you will get back to where you want to be with your times never stop believing in your self cause we all believe in you
@AdamWood thanks for your transparency and being vulnerable with us! I'm an a 27 year old who works a "9-5" and has been running on and off due to "life" but this year I'm trying to make a come back! I'm no where near as fit as you distance running wise(I have a sprinting background). And I'm hoping to break my 5k pr of 18:57 this year. Thanks again and I pray you reach your goals and most importantly be happy and "sound" with yourself 🙏
Keep Grinding Bro! it will come back. "you don't lose if you get knocked down. You lose if you stay down" - Muhammed Ali
"Just keep showing up; we'll get through it."
Lowkey some great advice
Always good to see Papa Links make an appearance!
Hey, you're doing great. You're being real and authentic, unlike other youtubers who just try to artificialize what they're presenting and shi
Keep up the good work
I’ve been stuck in a plateau. I ran XC, and never PRd after the season opener. Track I PRd but never felt good about a race. Thank you for being so honest.
adam:“my race was horrible, i ran 15:15”
me:*cries in 17:10 pr*
Me: *cries in **23:50** PR* 😂
Wow great pb for mica after a tough 3000m in the last race
You're amazing! And you remind me of Khleo Thomas (Zero from "Holes.").
Hey Adam, I was planning on running the steeplechase this track season. Could you give me any tips?
You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work! :)
Love you bro
"Welcome to paradise" 😂😂
You and your wife inspire me to get back into running. I do miss it.
We have ALL been there, hard to see it now.. but you'll gain something even from getting your teeth kicked in. Much love bro!
I agree do some workouts that you know are equal to a fast race time, so you know you are ready, otherwise you will just be disappointed by racing unprepared.
Bro its all good haha
I just ran my first race since CIM and it was like yours (in that I ran significantly slower than my "worst case scenario", 20:53 for 4 miles...). It's hard to see race times that are slower than things you did in workouts in the past, but you forget how fast 14 minute pace is (or 15 minute pace, for that matter). It'll take a little time to get back there; if we're still slow a month from now, then go ahead and worry.
Flying to a 5k is wild
Keep your head up. You'll be back. All you can ran is your best on the day. Rest. Reset. Double down on the non-negotiables.
My race was meh today too. Far off my PR in 5k and mile. Sucks since my mileage is up. Time to put in some more work.
I apply 24 hour rule after a bad race. You don't have to block the emotions, just allow them for that short period of time. It will give you enough motivation to try and perform better the next time.
“I’m gonna have nightmares about that” omg it’s the worst to have a bad race 😭😭
bro we ran CIM together, and I ran a 5k late January at Ocean Breeze, 15:25. Same situation. Worked hard for a month and now I'm already back to CIM area fitness
I’m surprised you don’t have more followers
👍🏻
15:15 is blazing speed! Give your body time to adjust and you’ll be back at 14:00 (or faster).
I wish to run a 15:15 man
Please keep making videos. Don't give that up. But please don't destroy yourself, because of race results of a single 5k. I think you're great, but the question is where are you headed? 5ks or Marathons, what are your goals for 2024, what are your aspirations? I hope you'll tell us, soon.
Can’t let the negative thoughts get too you… what did you learn from it and how can you improve from it
It’s so crazy being disappointed in 15 minutes for 5k. I’d have a party if I did under 24 minutes 😊
Adam what do you do for your job?
Elephant in the room. You were sick (covid?) and it's possible you are still not at 💯 yet. I took almost 8 months to retain my normal fitness after being hit hard.
One more question if you see thisss, what camera do you use? I was thinking of getting one
You need to do some speed work and drills my guy! Seems to be a power and cadence issue :) Also, Its only Feb. Don't get disheartened until September ;)
I want soooo much for this couple
hey bro, is there any way to get in touch with you. I’m sporty as well, the same age you are (I guess) and you’re actually inspiring, so just wanted to share thoughts about running & self-improvement with u :) nice vid by the way
I get that athletics in general are very dependent of experience, time training, and genetics, but its hilarious to me listening to you talk like a 15:15 is the slowest 5k time to ever exist, meanwhile me breaking 17:00 was one of my greatest athletic accomplishments. But then again I bet if I tried to max on bench and hit only 295 instead of like 335 I would be speaking similar to you speaking on your 15:15.. Point is, there are levels to all walks of life my friend and you are young having plenty of time to continue training and come back stronger and more fit.
Don’t stop
My goal to become more lean and cardiovascular, you should film more of your eating and nutrition food the ones you inspire.
Was that the Whole Foods near northeastern or Cambridge? Did you run into any vlog fans?
I genuinely enjoy watching these videos but here is a small tip that helped me. First off I must say that I am nowhere on the same level as you are but I feel that I have had a similar thought process. Stop using negative self-talk on your race day period. Not only is this wasted energy but saying things like I feel horrible and not sure if my wife took all of the good racing mojo is not helping your mind and your body. If you outwardly say more positive things your results will mirror that. This is hard for everyone, me included its just something ive noticed when watching your videos
Bro 5k is a skill. That needs frequent sharpening. That performance don't mean much. Just resharpen that tool of 5k
how much better are the on spikes than dragon flys?
Hi...just checking... did you receive the cookbook?
What is the hip stretch that you do? My hips could use that🙏🏽
Adam- Perhaps an obvious intervention, but how's your iron status?
How does someone find track meets for adults not in college? I've never been able to find adult or Masters track meets, you only see the Championships put on my USTAF.
You can try a collegiate meet at a local D3 or D2 school. They usually let some adults run unattached
Anyone know what those on cloud spikes are ?
“Cloudspike 10000m”
What are you back in school for?
Is Rory your coach?
Yessir 🙏🏼
are you doing grandmas this year
Dude, your body specializes for certain types of running. Marathon and 5k are NOT compatible. You gotta choose, you can't do both. There is no such thing as a 'fit' runner. Your body adjusts to what you do. If you wanna run 5k, you gotta train fast. If you wanna marathon, you gotta train longer and slower. There is no cookie cutter do-it-all workout program. For 5k, don't run a step over 40 miles a week. And put in a minimum pace for your workouts. Nothing slower than 5:30. No warmups either. Cold starts, and let your body adjust to the faster turnover. I ran 15:14 off 22 miles a week doing that.
No warmups? Probably going to get u injured
#11 needs to learn the rules…. 🤦♂️. Twice in a row!!
I wish I can wear short shorts
‘Training for 4 marathons and working was too much for me’ .. So do 7 marathons this year and the 4 marathons won’t be too much..
Starvation cost you power
Adam . . . I've watched you since your freshman year at BYU. This will sound really weird to you . . . but the best thing that could happen for both your and Mica's running is . . . start your family. Yep . . . start having our kids. You will not understand why until you actually have them and are in "the process" of the next part of your life journey. Best to you both!!
your* kids
Not disagreeing with you as I don’t have kids but surely having less time to run due to taking care of kids and then lack of sleep as well would impact one’s running?
Bro, wtf. 15 minutes is literally my dream 5k time and yet he's crying over running that after not training for one for 2 years
He’s just cracked. But he ran a minute slower than his PR and we’d be pretty bummed if that happened to us too.
@@Zoominguy007 ye, I guess so. But I mean, if he didnt finish last then he should be chillin
It looks like you will make about $250 from each video. Take that money from each one, and get those tattoos removed before any more people see them.
I can't believe anybody in SLC would ever want tattoos. You are a good-looking guy with a great-looking wife, don't ruin it with revolting tattoos.
You’ve always been slow
