As a friend of mine said recently, the house band in heaven just keeps getting better and better. The end of an era, indeed. Rest in peace Gregg. You are sorely missed.
I was there. We all felt so deeply for Otiel that night but we also knew that playing music was the best thing for him. This clip doesn’t show it, but when Gregg’s picture first appeared the crowd went absolutely wild. It was perfect.
I will miss Greg greatly. He was a shining star for all fans of SOUTHERN ROCK! Rest in peace brother. I have to believe that Heaven has an even cooler vibe today as Greg and Duane are pickin together on the front porch of an old Georgia farm house. We will always remember you Greg. Your music is eternall!!!
When I was just a punk kid I cut 8 yards to walk into Moses Records in Little Rock Arkansas to purchase my first album. Fillmore East. My family let me listen to that album just about every night on the magnavox console in our den...Gregg was and will always be the coolest cat of all time in my book...RIP Gregg Allman and thanks for introducing me to the music I grew up on...My grandmother just loved the songs and danced to them all night... Thats America...
Gregg was a good man with some awful demons. Showed incredible courage to kick the drugs, the alcohol, and the cigarettes. Pretty much wrote the sound track for anyone over the age of 60 now. Seeing him pass is a grim reminder that the kids who idolized him and The Brothers are getting up there too. People will be listening to his music 100 years from now though. Magnificent talent and by all accounts a humble man. RIP baby brother. You're finally back with Duane, Berry, and Butch.
Every single thing that is sweet and beautiful about this band is personified in this video. Such reverence for each other, and for Gregg and his loved ones and his legacy.
I didn't realize there were tears running down my face till halfway through the song. Mesmerizing, moving, heartbreaking, and oh, what a beautiful tribute! One of the most deeply felt renditions of Dylan's masterpiece I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure the door opened for Gregg.
Did anyone notice they sang an alternative verse "lord take these tears from my face" is what I heard. Tough on oteil. Probably tough on most the boys. I bet Jeff even knew him
On Aug. 28 1973 I, and 600,000 others , saw The Band, Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band at Watkins Glen = "The Forgotten Concert". May those bands and their members never go the same way... Love you Greg, and your brother Duane.
Skulls and Roses was the first album I ever bought. 1972 I think but things are a bit fuzzy from back then. Fillmore East came out and Greg and the band completely stole my heart. At 61 years old, these are my favorite. Thank you Greg. Thank you Duane. Thank you Jerry. Thank you Bob. Thank you everyone ever associated with these amazing musicians.
What a beautiful tribute. The guy sitting at the organ looks just like a young Gregg Allman. RIP Gregg, Butch, Duane and Berry. Thanks for posting this!
an unbelievable musical giant gone....but only gone in this world. him an Barry and Butch and Duane are jamming again. I can't wait to see them in the next world. Jerry and Brent and Pigpen are sitting in with em. peace my brothers and sisters. keep the faith.
I had the priviledge of owning a Les Paul in the mid 80's that was eventually sold to the great Greg Alman. It sure is worth a lot more now than when I had it. R.I.P to one of the best southern rock legends that was there from the beginning. miss you.
I live in Macon, Ga, been a bad week, city and family exhaled Saturday night. I don't even want to think what Oteil, Warren, Jai and the rest of the family are going through right now. Knew it was coming but still blind side us.
Wow..., as a guitarist from Macon myself, I'd have to say the thought AND the deed are both beautiful and RICH in the tradition we all share of complementing each other as opposed to competing . Somehow I'd sort of EXPECT some outpouring publicly.
Got the chills at the 2:20 mark when Bobby started singing and Oteil turned his back to the audience. Wondering if he got choked up by the moment and had to walk away from the stage to gather himself.
There is really no reason for and no room for hate and negativity on this video post. If you don't have anything nice to say and share then don't say it. Just move on. I'm not going to give you any publicity here with a shout out to the haters but you know who you are. However, I will remove your posts. There is only room for sharing good and happy here. Peace & Love!
Is Oteil a regular member of this version of the Grateful Dead? No Phil? Is that still Bill & Micky on drums? For a quick second I thought that was Brent on Keys but alas he is with Jerry as well. So who is this keyboard guy and does he sing? Never been a John Mayer fan but I do have to say he is pulling the Jerry licks off. Nice to hear him do something different then cop all of SRV's stuff. Bobby, Bob!?! What happened to Ratdog? I guess the GD brand carries a little more weight. Good on ya! Keep it alive! The beard works. Guess you're no longer the little kid in the band : )
Oteil is Dead & Company's bassist now...since the 1st tour in the Fall 2015 after the Fare Thee Well shows. Phil is out on his own. Jeff Chimenti is the keyboardist and totally reminds me of Brent too. Bill and Micky are still on the drums. Age is showing through with Bobby but I give him credit! I was never a big fan of John Mayer until last summers tour. He's a great fit and so much better than Trey.
RIP Brother, Greg , Here's A ✌🏻moment of silence ❤️ for Gregg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band, passing onto "wherever he wished it would be" . A simple man, A good man , ~a true american icon ~ 🇺🇸
I saw Gregg Allman along with Charlie Daniels and Stevie Ray Vaughn in Connecticut in the 80's. It was a great time. Couldn't Stand The Weather tour. It was Storming out and Gregg played Stormy Monday, and of course Stevie played Couldn't Stand The Weather at the appropriate time. Great show?
Joan Christian I saw that same tour! Charlie Daniels Band, Gregg Allman Band SRV & DT headlined. Can't remember the name of the place but it was in an airplane hangar in San Bernadino, California. I'll never forget it. As soon as SRV came out, before he even played a note, he was breaking up fights in the front of the stage. He literally said, "if ya'll don't stop fighting I'm not playing!" Fights stopped INSTANTLY, lol....One of my all time favorite shows I went to : )
As a friend of mine said recently, the house band in heaven just keeps getting better and better. The end of an era, indeed. Rest in peace Gregg. You are sorely missed.
Perfect! Ride on Gregg Allman - you have been part of the fabric of life all my days. End of an era.

I'm still trying to recognize and realize he's gone. Not really sure how many times I have seen Gregg perform. RIP!
Beutiful rendition for a fellow musician from the heyday.
Beautifully done

RIP GREGG.....
Does anyone know why John Mayer is playing a PRS guitar with Dead & Co. but I don't see him playing anywhere else?
Just guessing but maybe for the sound it produces
dleelarson he had it designed to replicate Jerry's tone and basically be the perfect new guitar for touring with Dead & Co
Also in the beginning oteil turns his back to the crown. My guess is tears.

Did anyone see Jerry appear in the lights for a second smiling or was it just me?
24 dislikes. Pathetic.
