I’m debating between this and the Mazda CX-5 carbon edition. I love this for the panaromic sunroof and the leather on the sides of doors. However I LOVE the red leather in the CX-5 but it has a small sunroof and a couple other features that are missing compared to the cx 50. So indecisive 😭
Hi, I traded my Carbon CX-5 for the CX-50 TP in white pearl... no doubt about it, the cx-50 is way better. Drive them. I couldn't stand how weak the 4 cylinder on the cx-5 carbon edition, if you end up getting the cx5, get the one with turbo, otherwise it's too weak. IMO.
Bought a preferred plus on Saturday. It struggles to stay smooth at highway speeds with the base engine, base speakers also very subpar, and sunroof barely opens despite being panoramic but otherwise its fantastic, even the half cloth doesn’t feel like cloth. I came from a K5 GT1 but despite losing features, I like it better
Have mine for about 2 months now, also a PFP. I must say, the car does adapt the more you drive it. The more I drive it, the more I love it. Compared to when I bought it, I think now it’s way more fun to drive. Feels faster in the HWY. I also added a sub in the spare tire and to me it makes it sound a lot better (it’s decent already). Agreed on the sunroof, but I rarely open it so it’s not a big downside
In Sports mode, sweet spot just starts beyond 50 mph and gives run for money ❤ considering the price…it’s a no nonsense car ..totally love my Preferred Plus Trim…
The title says “ultimate off-road” but what is “off-road” here other than the wheels? Needless to say that if I bought a “regular” turbo trim, the first thing I would do is to get rid of the 20” wheels anyway. So what is “off-road” here vs regular trims other than a sticker on the hood? Why not show the spare wheel that is supposed to be full size for the “off-road” version? Is it a full size wheel? I have researched, put on the lift and test- drove all principal CX-50 trims. This is a good car. I would take it over the CX-5. But as “off-road” version it won’t hold a candle to the Subaru Wilderness.
Great question Cruiseadmiral, here are some key competitive wins the CX-50 has over the wilderness: 13% more maximum torque (320 lb-ft* vs. 277) • CX-50 2.5 Turbo's Mi-Drive offers Sport and Towing modes-not available on the Outback. • CX-50 overall height is 63.9 inches for easier roof access, versus 66.9 inches for the Outback Wilderness • Standard automatic power folding mirrors-not available on the Outback • Standard rain-sensing windshield wipers-not available on the Outback • Standard panoramic moonroof-not available on the Outback • Standard leather seats-not available on the Outback • Standard Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Wireless Android Auto™-not available on the Outback Standard Blind Spot Prevention and 360° View Monitor-not available on the Outback • The Outback's audio system features just 6 speakers vs. 12 speakers in the Bose® audio system found on the CX-50. • Standard Active Driving Display: the Outback offers no type of head-up display. Hope this answers any questions you may have had!
Scott, the Mazda CX-50 is meant to bring the brands philosophy of being driver centric to the trail. As this vehicle is a light off-roader to accommodate an active lifestyle.
Not to forget it’s aggressive pricing…jeep is too narrow inside and Land Rover is way beyond budget…this can bring smiles on highway ride and gets you to limited off-road capability…
Looks soooo much better with those wheels. Need the roof rack to complete the look
Nice job on the review I like it

My face: 😮
Looking forward to picking one up. Got a trade in ready. I was thinking about the cx 5 but after seeing this edition I am sold.
Hope you love it as much as we do!
I’ve been waiting to see Meridian edition CX-50 but I wish it came in more colour options.
They offer the meridian choice package on turbo trims which gives you the majority of the meridian edition features!
Mine is in zircon sand.
Thanks for showing me what the headlight garnish looks like. None of the dealers I called could explain to me.
Getting the Meridian edition in zircon sand in about 5 days, super excited 🔥
Good choice!

Definitely drive them both! Great vehicles with two different focuses.

Good only for parking lots. Jeep and Land Rover are ultimate off roaders

You know what else is ultimate about the jeep and land rover? It's breakdowns. They are completely bad for longevity versus a Honda or Mazda.
