Just bought one a month ago, same identical version. Wife loves it, amazed at how quiet it is even with the all terrain tires, and the front end looks so great.
After hearing you mention the touchscreen while driving hack, I came across a video showing how to do this on a CX-60. The person went into settings, then connectivity settings, then Bluetooth Iphone connectivity settings, and then under “device(s)” select iPhone, and then you scroll down to the bottom to a check box “Touchscreen in Motion for all devices.” I’m so glad you mentioned this because my wife has been driving a 2018 x1 with Apple CarPlay that has both the dial and touchscreen. She loves the Mazda’s but refuses to go backwards with it not not having the touchscreen. You may have just put us in the market for a new Mazda! 🎉

Great review, Zac and Andrea! I’m loving my CX50 after almost five months of driving it. There’s a few things that need some improvement but overall it’s a very nice “sport wagon.” 😁
I like the analog cluster dials, as long as they tell you what you need to know, and they age better. Full LCD/tft/ or whatever screens some use age horribly, and look chintzy. Even screen tech ages so fast. LCD? TFT? What? No OLED? MUST have OLED HDR screen! Some of the screens look horrible in some of the Hyundai's. In a few years, the graphics will look so outdated, it'll feel like I'm staring at a TI83 calculator. As long as they can make analog dials look like a hand crafted clock it'll age far better. If you think analog looks dated, try looking at a car that had a digital dash cluster from 5-10 years ago. It'll look ancient. Because of the screen tech, graphic tech, or design, they hardly ever age well. In some older Lexus, they'll use a digital dash to display an analog dial which seems to age well.
Funny you mention Hyundai's, my Kona screen looks kind of cheap, I notice it displays fake carbon fiber. A screen displaying fake carbon. That's what some dashboard will have one day, their screens will have fake carbon fiber displays instead of having actual carbon fiber.
I feel you're right. Though LCD screens look nice at first, they age real fast. A year or so down the road, they look pretty bland or cheap. This might be an odd comparison but my uncles old Aston gauges, I believe its an DB9, the gauges look like titanium with crystal dials and buttons. The only screens I remember are two little lcds that show miles or "please service". I know that's a different class of car but the gauges look good today for a 10+ year old car.
@@josophie5002 my friend has a Kona N, first thing I noticed when I got in it is its full LCD screen. It looks cheap and looks like an old computer monitor tech. I don't know what screen tech it is, if its TN, VA, or IPS, or something else entirely. But the graphics look fine for now, but I did see the "fake carbon" which I just laughed. Though most interior carbon is fake anyway, unless its something like a boutique car. Those dashboard graphics will age like milk.
Thank you for another great review! Love this CX-50, but I’ll stick with my ‘21 Mazda 3 Turbo. The hatchback gives me lots of versatility and the AWD handles adverse weather. And you can’t beat the driving dynamics of a hatchback. No SUV can compare to that.
As Zach loves to say "You buy horsepower, but you use torque", it would be awesome if you would quote torque figures during the "For your consideration" section. Otherwise, always love your reviews.
Thank you. I love your channel and learning very much from you both.I would ask you. I like heavier steering wheels, which car companies has heavy steering wheels? mercedes, Hyundai or anything else you recommend??
I got one with base trim in Canada (GS-L), my other choice was the Subaru Forester Wilderness, I wish I had by the Subaru. I have a lot of couple issue with the CX-50, last repair was the both from seat, tear on the side of the seat. If I get another issue, I will trade it, my last 5 car was all Mazda , but first one built in USA, not sure it is a good choice.
If only they could make the whole interior out of the material in your sweater Andrea. Re: the CX50... it needs a hybrid and PHEV or even a BEV. Very sharp design.
I liked your review very much. I was disappointed in some very important details you left out. I own a 2023 CX-50. I traded in a CX-5 for the 50. I will list things that really highlight the CX-50: 1. Seating- I think the seating is more comfortable then the the CX-5. You are comfortably up on the steering wheel. Your arms and eyes see and control everything The seats give a very secure and comfort feeling to the driving 2. Accident Avoidance Maneuver: The CX-50 leaves ALL competition behind in this area. I lost count after 6 direct potential collisions were avoided by CX-50 because of it's quick sports car reaction to steering around the other drivers errors. I thought the CX-5 was good but CX-50 is in another league. The author stated the heavy steering effort has its detractors. I strongly disagree. The heavy feel steering and suspension work in perfect harmony with each other. A Audi driver would highly approve of this type handling arrangement. 3. Linear Brake Pressure and Brakes: The first thing I noticed on approaching the first CX-50 I saw were the very large disc brakes. The linear break pressure is solid from the top of the breaking application and never gets soft no matter how hard you break. The soft linear pressure of the CX-5 of no brakes at the top of braking application to hard engagement at the bottom of the brake travel left one unsecure how the vehicle was going to respond in an emergency. Not with the CX-50! The cat like reflexes of the steering, suspension and world class stopping power of the braking system make this car a class leader in its segment. Finally what I like about Mazda is that they listen. I was contacted 3 times by the factory to hear of my owner driving experience while I owned my CX-5 and I have been contacted once so far with the CX-50.
Thanks. Great comment and observation. Appreciate it. I have the CX-50 GT Turbo and am loving every moment of my possession of this piece of engineering creation.
For the middle display, There is an option to have a digital speed display instead of the "analog" speedometer type . I use that on my CX50 GS-L model. There are 4 display modes toggled through using the INFO button on the steering wheel. What was displayed in the video is the 1st (basic display) mode. I use the 4th option (i-ACTIVESENSE display)
Your reviews are 🔥🔥🔥! Love tuning in, even if I’m not in the market for a new car at the moment. I knew you guys had to have worked in radio, the voices sounded familiar. Thanks for all the hard work you put into making these reviews!
Mazda did great on exterior but interior needs refresh. Zack is right about the tires. It’s need some choices. Few good laughs here and there.👍🏻 Great video Andrea! ☕️☕️
Oh wow that was a nice little tidbit about you guys both having worked in radio, and it makes a lot of sense! @@andreaspencer9813 It is such a nice looking truck....a muddy or rutty gravel road in light snow is where I would draw the line.. .then quickly to the car wash 🤣
As for the torsion beam rear suspension, I wonder if that is why the CX-50 Turbo can pull 3500 lbs, while the CX-5 Turbo can only pull 2000 lbs (like the non-turbo versions of both models).
Great review Andrea and Zack! I love the rugged look of this suv. I have a 2021.5 CX5 GS bought in Nov 2021. I wish I waited few months for this CX50. Seats in CX5 are uncomfortable on longer trips. CX50 seats seem to be better. Might trade my CX5 for this…
I drove a turbo CX 50 Meridian last week while I was picking up my new MX-5 GT Miata. I loved it as much as I love my Miata. The Meridian is going to be my next SUV.
I am the opposite and wanted the Miata but settled for the CX-50 as I can't load groceries in the other car lol. The CX-50 is top rated for safety BTW which just came out and will protect you in side impacts unlike the Miata for a daily

This might just be Mazda’s best offering… might. From the side it looks like a RAV4, from the back (with those lights) it looks ‘some kind of premium car company’ … though I can’t place which, from the front it looks like literally every Mazda. I’m glad Mazda is still a contender in almost every category, within this class. The size, interior options and price make it very competitive. I love the terracotta interior and Mazda’s ‘one step above’ fit and finish. You’d be crazy not to shortlist this if it is the right size for you/your family. I certainly would consider it. Thanks for the video.
A lot of people have forgotten that Mazda was suppose to launch the luxury division called Amati! The Mazda Millenia was suppose to be the first in the lineup but Mazda chose to not compete with Nissan’s and Toyota’s premium brands at the last minute! Would have been interesting to see where things would have gone if they had not changed their minds!
I'll take the analogue cluster over a lcd screen for the drive information any day. I need something that I won't have to worry about going bad 3 years down the road. I have a 2018 Mazda CX-5 and right around the two year mark my info screen would occasionally start doing weird things. It turns out a lot of Mazda owners also had this problem where it looks like someone has taken over the control knob and is just shifting through random menus on the infotainment screen and turning things off and on. It's really annoying. Online, there have been several articles calling it "ghost touching". So for those of us who didn't run in right away to have it fixed under the three year warranty, Mazda dealers want $1,200.00 to replace the screen. I've seen Mazda owners on TH-cam literally just take the screen apart and cut the ribbon to the touch function and that solves the problem, except you can't use it as a touch screen anymore. The point is this: if Mazda couldn't do a proper screen in 2018, I don't trust them to do one now, and I need to be able to see the type of information that comes on those analogue clusters.
Touchscreen settings: Home>Settings>Connectivity>"select your phone">then, of the options available, choose "Touchscreen active for all devices". Done.
Can the front passenger use touch screen when the car is moving, now? I have a 2021 CX-5, and it is really annoying when the touch screen or nob selection function got disabled whne the car speed is higher than certain km. Basically your front passenger can't help with navigation input at all, which I believe that is something driver can get help with. They really should allow that fundtion when front passenger is detected.
The CX-90 seats seem better but we are going to have some seat time in the CX-90 on Monday in California. So we'll both get a better idea about how firm they are. Looking forward to sharing our driving impressions.
Looked at these and I like them. Get the hot motor and their build quality, it’s a good deal. The only drawback is the cargo space. Mazda tends to lean on the smaller side.
I'm a big Mazda fan. On the Meridian trim, my only concern is those aggressive tread tires for on highway use. 🇨🇦 telltale..about, house...and Maaazda 😊 ❤ from 🇺🇸!
They aren't that bad. I just got back from a 5,600km road trip(Ontario to Florida round trip) in this exact car. They are a little louder, but not enough to annoy you.
Test drove one. It’s a great vehicle with the typical sporty Mazda drive (I own a Cx-9 which I love). But the seats were simply far too firm, much like the Cx-5.
Love your informative videos and your dynamics. It's the closest to experience and actual driving test. We're looking at a second car for my wife and considering the Forester, Rogue, and Mazda CX5 or CX 50. Although your videos are excellent, she needs to sit in the cars to decide. We don't want to visit show rooms. We bought tickets to the NY Car Show for April (2023) which would expose us to those brands and possibly others. Guess what- Mazda is not participating and will not have any cars to display !!! How disappointing!!! I hope you share this with your Mazda rep. Again Thank You for your reviews.
I’d say good looking vehicle and you look marvellous in leopard spots. Don’t need a digital dash , I’d rather it had 6 gauges instead of the usual 4. Very good review ! 👍
digital dashes age poorly, in a few years they look cheap with silly graphics. Analog as long as its done tastefully just looks fine for decades to come if the car last that long.
Digital dashboards have, and always be cheap looking. If somebody wants to look at graphics, get a PS5. Or build a 4090 PC. Leave the car gauges just that. GAUGES.
The great thing about Mazda models is that they are really fun to drive! Heading to California tomorrow to drive the new CX-90, we can't wait to share our driving impressions.
@Andrea Spencer Absolutely agree Andrea, they do have that fun drive history. You'll certainly enjoy your drive tomorrow and look forward to hearing your thoughts on that experience in due course.
Your review of the cx50 is spot on. I test drove a standard model and it was great except for the firm ride. In the end I have ordered a honda crv sport touring.
Just bought a 2024 CX-50 Meridian, without the graphics (boy racer much?) - trading in my 2021 CX-5 AND my 2022 CX-30 (still have my 2019 MX-5 RF GT) - honestly, it was the colour (Polymetal) which my wife loved and for me the Falken tires on this 18" wheels that got me. Just one suggestion for your videos - a little track time might teach you a better hand positions on the steering wheel. Those little bumps in the steering wheel are a hint...
The setting to turn on the “always-on” touchscreen is buried under the Connectivity settings. Select a device and then select “Touchscreen in Motion for All Devices.” The screen is still clearly not designed for touch though, it’s a long reach for the driver! I love using the dial and definitely feels less distracting to use when you’re just switching between Nav and Music or changing the song!
Word is that bmw is ending production of the z4. This will effect Toyotas version. You mentioned on another videoyou wanted to test one but why waste your time if they are eliminating it? Love your videos!,
It's ok, but the ride quality of the CX-5 is so much better. The CX-5 has acoustic glass as well....making it a much quieter vehicle. Too much plastic inside the CX-50.
I did not like the CX-5 ride quality. It felt crammed and the seats were shorter and a blindspot from the car frame drove me nuts. The upper trims do not have the same amount of plastic. I will trade that over the noise. To each their own
@@timgibney5590 Good to know. Nice that Mazda has options. You are probably a bigger person as well, and the CX-5 being made in Japan caters to average size folks the best. I find the CX-5 very luxurious. It suits my needs perfectly.
Drove a CX-50 today. Feels quite a bit different than the 5. Pros: less body roll and more control in corners. Transmission tuning is more responsive and avoids some of the sluggish ranges you get into with the 5. Cons: seats are much more firm. Different: brake pedal needs to be pressed harder, steering ratios are different depending on the speed you're driving. There's a clear difference in the dead center, with the 50's being more pronounced/wider I think. Despite the same engine and transmission, the car sounds different. I found that interesting. Ride quality felt comparable, with the 17" wheels on each. Maybe the 50 felt slightly tightened up, but not by much. There wasn't anything about visibility out of the 50 that stood out to me after driving the 5 for 6 years. I felt that the 50 was quiet, save for the wind noise coming from the sunroof (closed). I would personally save the money from that option since I don't tend to use them much. Subjectively, the door closing is less solid vs the 5 and shows some vibration on the outside door panel, especially on the rear doors. Yes, my CX-5 was made in Japan. The CX-50 was made in the USA. However it's in the new Toyota/Mazda production plant that *should* be up to the same standards. I'm currently stuck deciding if I should take a risk with these seats being so firm. Otherwise I liked the car.
@@matsudakodo I prefer the seats of the 50. Both are too firm for my preference but I noticed the seats were longer on the 50 vs the 5. Female passagners may prefer the 50 because of their wider hips. But it is all based on preferences. Yes both cars are different and I love that so each can find their own. I prefer the 50 but that is me and I came from a Kia soule which had a much wider dash and interior so it suited me.
Weird. Just watched another review (probably seen a dozen so far) and the reviewer said the same thing as all the others...the CX-50 steering is noticeably heavier than you'd expect, and more than the CX-5.
@@matsudakodo I test drove both and bought this Meridian CX-50. Basically the CX-50 is wider with a lower set of gravity so it handles fast turns better. It has lifts too which do small tilts on tight turns. .... with that said the cx-5 is lighter in it's steering and handling while the CX-50 feels like an old pontianc GTO from the 1960s. Responsiveness is better in the cx-5 but the 50 handles the turns better and stays on the road more. That is the difference. It was not slow steering but the CX-5 turned faster but not handling the turn as well. Also I owned the cx-50 for a month and the wheels have not slipped once yet.
Regarding luxury Mazda, recall the Millenium? That was originally going to be Mazda's premium brand, but they canceled that when the economy was weak, so instead they made the Millenium the top of the line Mazda sedan

Mazda need to make the steering little lighter and add some cushion on the seats of cx50. I test drove one, boy it wore me out in just 20 minutes test drive in a busy city.
This is kinda like a budget X3 sDrive30i IMO I don't really think Rav4 or Subaru Forester buyers are looking at Mazda, Mazda is very much like Buick where they do just a lil bit more in the details to make the car feel slightly upmarket.

Like the CX-50 but not a fan of the black graphics on this "m" version. Great Job A&Z.
Great review, Zac and Andrea! I’m loving my CX50 after almost five months of driving it. There’s a few things that need some improvement but overall it’s a very nice “sport wagon.” 😁
Oh good, happy to hear that!
Curious which things you think need improvement? I am looking for smth sporty in this segment.
I would also like to know what you think needs improvement.
Beautiful car, love the interior color. Another awesome review 👏🏾👏🏾
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
@@andreaspencer9813 You’re welcome 😁
@@laceycharizard2546 Analog dials age 100x better. Digital dials though fine at first, age the opposite, 100x faster.
I think the car is not the right application for OLED. You don't want to heat soak them or expose them to direct sunlight. LCD is better in this case.
Great content! I have the Mazda CX-30 2021. I 🥰 it
Thank you for another great review! Love this CX-50, but I’ll stick with my ‘21 Mazda 3 Turbo. The hatchback gives me lots of versatility and the AWD handles adverse weather. And you can’t beat the driving dynamics of a hatchback. No SUV can compare to that.
I don't see a difference. This really is just a hatchback car with slightly lifted body and roofline.
All aspects covered well. Good job 👍
Can you do a compilation of lead foot Andrea and the concern on Zack's face please. 😂
Definitely the CX 50 has the heavy steering!
@@eleanormassaro5195 I should go test driving!! Thanks!
Love my Mazda
I would like a turbo CX50 with a small sunroof and 18" non offroad tires.
I really think that once the hybrid comes, that the CX 50 sales are going to really take off!
@@eleanormassaro5195 that's what I'm waiting for
I liked your review very much. I was disappointed in some very important details you left out.
I own a 2023 CX-50. I traded in a CX-5 for the 50. I will list things that really highlight the CX-50:
1. Seating- I think the seating is more comfortable then the the CX-5. You are comfortably up on the steering wheel. Your arms and eyes see and control everything The seats give a very secure and comfort feeling to the driving
Thank you very much for the kinds words, we really appreciate it!
Mazda did great on exterior but interior needs refresh. Zack is right about the tires. It’s need some choices. Few good laughs here and there.👍🏻 Great video Andrea! ☕️☕️

Another great review from you guys. I saw your IG post regarding the new Mazda CX-90. I’m looking forward to your video review on that model!!
Oh wow that was a nice little tidbit about you guys both having worked in radio, and it makes a lot of sense! I’ve always noticed that whenever Andrea goes through the specs of the cars her voice sounds like if straight out of a automotive TV show! I told my brother “I think she maybe used to work in TV or something before”.
Interesting observation - are we on the rebound of the skinny tire pendulum? Wider sidewalls for a smoother ride?
Mazda used to have an upscale division 'Eunos', still remember a Eunos 500 on the street in Toronto
Did you do any....not quite off roading?
It seems like this is where CX50 would excel.
Thank you for your detailed review..well done.
We did when we drove it for the first time last year and it did well. The Gravel road was full of deep potholes.
@@andreaspencer9813 It is such a nice looking truck....a muddy or rutty gravel road in light snow is where I would draw the line..

Great review! I’m already in love with the CX-50, especially with the “Sand One” 😅 Beautiful nice color adds to the roughness 😊
As for the torsion beam rear suspension, I wonder if that is why the CX-50 Turbo can pull 3500 lbs, while the CX-5 Turbo can only pull 2000 lbs (like the non-turbo versions of both models).
I wonder why the cx5 isn't rated higher. The mazda 6 and mazda 3 both have trims rated to tow 3500 lbs, going back to the 2013
From what I've seen, apparently that's part of it coupled with the wider wheel base
Great review Andrea and Zack! I love the rugged look of this suv. I have a 2021.5 CX5 GS bought in Nov 2021. I wish I waited few months for this CX50. Seats in CX5 are uncomfortable on longer trips. CX50 seats seem to be better. Might trade my CX5 for this…
I have the opposite opinion. The CX-50 seats are much more firm.
Great review, I was having a hard time picking an upgrade from my CX5, CX90 too big and too much $, leaning toward CX50 Turbo Premium
Always producing good information to consumers ❤❤❤❤
Mazzda makes the best value sporty driving cars available. The exhaust note from this CX 50 is pretty nice.
Mazda *; show some respect, please!
Mazda loses a notch on the "sporty" credibility for every new vehicle it releases without a third pedal.
@@rjcolombe I guess Lambo and Ferrari don't qualify anymore either.
How does the driving experience of the CX-50 Turbo compare to something like a base Porsche Macan?
What? You're comparing a chevy spark to a corvette.
Its closer to the Porsche Macan … than the Lamborghini Urus.
@@nickr3441 Macan - 261hp / 295 lb-ft. 4,151 lbs. CX-50 Turbo - 256hp / 320 lb-ft 3,907 lbs. They are within less than an inch in all dimensions. So how is it an unreasonable comparison. Both have sporting intentions. I don't expect the CX-50 to be better than the Macan, but how close does it get in driving experience...
@@Spikejou The porshe has 10 speed transmission and the CX-50 has 6 speed and struts are superior with the porshe. It won't accelerate as quick or run as smooth ... but the CX-50 has offroad support and is 1/2 the cost so I will accept it 🙂
Front and rear Torsen differential need along with aluminum skid plates and lift kit before it can be considered for off road as AT tires are easily changed
I wish this came with a 6 cylinder without the turbo
I remember that!😁
They are trying to turn into Jeep. By simply raising the prices and putting interior it got relabeled as high end and people ate it up.
Hi everyone my 2021. CX-5 signature has fog lights how come the 2022’s don’t have it
Touchscreen settings: Home>Settings>Connectivity>"select your phone">then, of the options available, choose "Touchscreen active for all devices".
Andrea, how do these firm seats compare to the CX-90 you sat in?
The CX-90 seats seem better but we are going to have some seat time in the CX-90 on Monday in California. So we'll both get a better idea about how firm they are. Looking forward to sharing our driving impressions.

Love your informative videos and your dynamics. It's the closest to experience and actual driving test. We're looking at a second car for my wife and considering the Forester, Rogue, and Mazda CX5 or CX 50. Although your videos are excellent, she needs to sit in the cars to decide. I’d say good looking vehicle and you look marvellous in leopard spots. Don’t need a digital dash , I’d rather it had 6 gauges instead of the usual 4. Very good review ! 👍
Same here. I'd take analogue gauges over the digital stuff every time.
The center gauge is digital. Allows you to switch from mph to kph easily. Can't tell that it's digital. Looks identical to the outside analog gauges.
digital dashes age poorly, in a few years they look cheap with silly graphics. Analog as long as its done tastefully just looks fine for decades to come if the car last that long.
Digital dashboards have, and always be cheap looking. If somebody wants to look at graphics, get a PS5. Or build a 4090 PC. Leave the car gauges just that. GAUGES.

Interesting. I plan on testing one and seeing for myself, coming from 6 years of current-gen CX-5 ownership.

CX-5
@@Motormouth... did you mean CX-50? Every single review I have watched all say the CX-50 has heavier steering and is very different than the 5.
Definitely CX-5
Amati was the name of their failed luxury line.
@@marshalljames5640 that's right, the Millennium was supposed to be the first model of that brand. Kia then appropriated Amati for their luxury model.
