@@goddammitalana - there's even places in the western world that believe in curses and devils and demonic possession. Hell there's places in the USA (and other countries) that will have exorcisms for their "possessed" child rather than get them actual medical help for their mental illness.

Movies like "The Exorcist" might make it look cartoonish so you'll scoff, but demonic torment and possession are real phenomena, as stated in the Bible. Watch some videos about the misnamed incidents of "sleep paralysis," and note the staggering number of people who have experienced it. Time and time and time again, those who have experienced it say that the only thing that would release them from their terror-frozen state was calling on Christ.

He didn't move to Colorado for warmer weather, it was the thinner mountain air that was thought to help those with TB. There were many such places in the mountainous areas. It's sad what happened to Mercy, but they couldn't have known back then that it was the cold temperatures of the NE that preserved her body. People to this day seek her grave, to see the "vampire" (I lived in RI for four years), a sad legacy. I can understand the desperation of her father, willing to try anything after losing so much of his family. We can't judge the past with current knowledge and morals, many of us would have done the exact same thing in her father's place. But those alive now should know better, and leave poor Mercy to rest in peace. She deserves that much, at the least.

    • @CuriousWorldProductions
      @CuriousWorldProductions  5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Thanks for the feedback. Almost all the sources I read desceribed it as for "the warmer climate", but the thinner mountain air makes sense.

@@CuriousWorldProductions If you read about Waverly Hills, they made the poor suffering folks to be in beds outside on the covered balconys thinking the freash air would help cure them, lots of times it was very cold.
They have a body chute & lots of tunnels. To keep folks from seeing the dead bodies, steps are on the left side, and a slooping concrete 'slide' is on the right side, at the bottom the bodies were put in trucks/cars & brought to the trains ect.
It's said that thousands & thousands are buried on the grounds because the 'family's ' were all dead or the family's didn't claim many of them.
A nurse either jumped or was pushed to her death (I think pushed), thanks to a doctor it's said, she'd become pregent & it was claimed she'd taken her life.
I believe whomever had gotten her pregent may have killed her to shut her up by pushing her off the roof. That's the feeling I get.
If the nurse didn't want the baby surely some doctor there would have helped her don't you think? Guess we'll never know.
Kids were dropped off there, because one or both or their parents were dead

I've heard about this case before. It's fascinating. They didn't understand how disease was spread back then and didn't understand how temperature and climate effect a human body after death. It's amazing how not understanding something leads to panic. Human nature. Great video.

My country has a strong catholic background and when you said that Mercy's body wasn't decomposed I remembered that in catholicism an incorrupt body can be a proof that the person was a saint. Curious story, a friend of mine's greatgrandmother had the fame of being a saint and once, when her coffin had to be moved it feel and open. They saw that her body was incorrupt, kind of proving to people that she was in fact a saint. Of course science has an explanation for that but I just find it interesting that in some countries/cultures a body that hasn't decomposed after death can be associated with something good/sainthood and in others something evil/vampirism.

The only thing about Mercy's story is some say her grave was exsumed which I believe she was placed in the keep because she passed in January and the ground is frozen, so there was no way of placing her body in the ground...Thank you for sharing Take care from Warwick, Rhode Island USA 😊

Trump isnt actually that bad. He just likes riling up the people who dont like him (because its easy lol) so that he can actually focus on more important things. Like delivering on the things he said he was going to do. Which are oddly the very same things Democrats have been wanting to do for *decades*, but because its Trump saying it, its all of a sudden a bad thing. That includes more strict border laws, the deportation of all illegal immigrants and a WALL. Both Clinton AND Obama wanted those things. I dont recall ANYBODY having a problem with it...I remember, as I voted for Obama TWICE and thought it was common sense...what happened?
So yeah, in the decades/centuries to come, our future selves will look back at us and laugh too, because many of us were stupid enough to trust a small group of people on the TV because they were supposed to be trust worthy and used that trust to lie to our faces. Theres a reason why trust in the media is basically non existent these days. Trump isnt the problem. The people telling you that Trump is the problem, are the problem. Because they cant control him. Dont believe that legacy media swill just because they call themselves journalists. They are gossip columnists, nothing more. Why else would they report TWITTER posts as if they are actual news?

Perhaps it was used to "press" a witch to death. They used big heavy stones for that. It would be interesting to know if any crushing deaths occurred around the same time

    • @Ruby321123

I was thinking more along the lines of "The Telltale Heart" there - that whomever took it was plagued certainly by guilt and possibly by visions - be they spiritual or hallucinatory - until they crumpled under pressure & brought it back. If the plan was to make a copy, why not make a copy from pictures prior to the theft and replace it the same night - thus not even alerting the authorities that a theft had ever occurred?

I’ve been to the stone, as I live nearby. It’s the same stone, though, now sealed by a metal foundation to the base of the stone. It has the same material composition and level of wear and tear is consistent with the stones of the other family members.
