The 1890s was an exhilarating era for art. It saw the flowering of the Art Nouveau movement of which Aubrey Beardsley was a prominent contributor. His Gothic masterpieces enriched and helped define Art Nouveau along with the delightful work of Alphonse Mucha. Thank you so much for posting this! Watching this video was one of the most delightful 21:31 I've spent in a long while. The piano piece accompanying the images was a perfect complement. Its haunting nature reflected the essence of the illustrations perfectly.
Beardsley was a genious nonpareil. Well ahead of his time. It's so easy to get lost in his world, a mixture of Japanese woodblock prints, Greek mythology and biblical allusions. So exotic, yet utterly familiar and truthful. So easy to dismiss his work as decadent. I labored under that delusion for 60+ years. How wrong I was.
A master illustrater whose use of line & erotic form still excites accross the globe, from comic book strips, to posters, to story telling illustrations, drawing on the japanese, the european medieval & embracing the lastest print techniques to show off his exquistite use of line, just black & white, no shading no grey.
I can see where singer/songwriter/artist Brandon Boyd get's his painting and drawing inspiration from..Brandon did say Aubrey Beardsley is one of his favorite artist..
Music 🎵🎶 is like a Bad funeral ....If a funeral can be Bad 😞😔.. which it is ...... .What a sham these aren't in order to show the progression of his works ... just my opinion...
