My first dirt bike! Loved this thing! Had one almost identical. Great job dad. I still miss this bike and cherish the memories it brought. I can see he will be the same way. Awsome!
That's great. Giving ur son some education on how to work on bikes. It's really cool that he got one and worked for it. So nice of the customer gave it to him.
I just got one as my second bike but mine was 1996 and yellow all OEM parts still on and just got it started, happy to see this masterpiece being loved by someone else
When 'work' is FUN!!! Nice job you guys and neither of you gave up! MAX, great job and as you're learning, anything you WANT in LIFE is ALWAYS in reach with a LITTLE WORK! You guys not only did a great job but did it the right way with SAFETY in mind. I actually enjoyed the ride as well. "BOOM" goes the patch! Love it! Such a precious time! Sonny (CT)
Mikey Mike....."PURE GOLD" 16:27.....I Feel Ya Brother💪 I watched this video with the biggest grin on my face.....taking me back to My.... "The Day".....You know what I mean. For some crazy reason, this is one of my favorite videos from you....And I have seen them all (Hope That's Not Too Creepy) Thanks Dude🏆
Awesome!! Thanks for the update. I don't know who had more fun you or your son. 🤣 My son grew up racing dirt bikes. Great father and son time. Make sure you change the oil.
You have my profound respect. Not only are you a crack contractor, but you’re one helluva dad. As noted by another commentator, I never had a dad like you. Max is a lucky boy, especially that his father trusts him to operate the bike safely. And why shouldn’t he know that? He has a great dad who instilled it in him to play safe. Watching him tool around the yard happy as a clam I know this is something he’ll always remember.
Good going Dad! Not only did you teach you son that you have to work for what you want and explained to him how to fix his new bike. I wish more parents in this world took that approach in raising their children.
Nice job, I don't know who was more excited, you or your son! I had the same excitement when I first started my snow blower after having it sit for several months 👍🏻
All right Mike and little Dirt Boss! May the force be with you. Safety first, I like the helmet, boots, good stuff to learn day 1. Great job Mike, you're lucky that carb and tank were only suffering from non-ethanol fuel. It never would have been that easy to clean up if it was today's gas. Glad it was cooperative, and Max got in some seat time! Another memorable father and son project, very cool. Be safe guys, & ride safer! Doug@ the "ranch"
@@DIRT-BOSS Good call Mike, wouldn't want anything bad to happen to Max riding his dirtbike. You're a fantastic father and he's a lucky guy to have you helping and teaching him about bikes and heavy equipment. Doesn't get much better than that. Have a good safe work week, and keep these wonderful videos coming. Father and son memories are priceless, they grow up way too fast! Doug@ the "ranch"
Haha, that's awesome, that bike fired right up, sweet, I used to ride, bring back memories mike, man of the days of riding crazy hahaha, max an his cuz are gonna be cruzin the back roads, lol look out. Thanks for sharing, really informative to mike, thanks
Looks like Dirt Buddy may now be Dirt Bike Buddy! Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t suggest using his excavator skills to put a couple of jump mounds in the front yard. I can sense it coming! What a rewarding couple of days... for both of you!
I had that exact same bike, same year and lettering. My mom gave it to her friend to keep at their farm after her and my dad got divorced bc our neighborhood gang was like the hells angels on mini bikes. Unfortunately for me someone put tanning oil in the bike instead of 2 stroke. Great little bike and a ton of great memories
My son had a 1991 DS80 that looked exactly as your. Awesome little bike my only regret is that I sold it. Now I just bought a 1998 DS80 to my daughter. It’s much easier to learn to use the clutch than on a 65cc race bike and it’s much lighter than a 4 stroke.
Mike, you're more excited than your son. Good idea on disconnecting the front brake. It will flip you over the handlebars until you ride a while and get used to using both the front and back brakes.
I’m guessing the injection oil pump is working fine. If unsure run a tank of 50:1 premix and then check the oil reservoir to see that the level has dropped. A little extra oil after 23 years of sitting is good insurance. Great video and great lesson for your son!
Good job! Make sure to drain the transmission oil! Refill with motorcycle grade oil to protect the wet clutch! Car oils use friction modifiers, not a good idea! Happy trails!
Well done, Mike. Clearly that sticker made it go faster, LOL! BTW, if you get a chance you might try something called OptiBond Tire Gel. I found it a few years back and it is wonderful on rubber, vinyl, plastics, etc. You won't believe what it does for tires and especially things like those front and rear boots. I usually dilute it 50/50 with water and put it in a spray bottle. So, who was having more fun - Max or you?
Don’t forget to order him a chest protector to get him started right...I had a shop and we had many stories about how they got punted off and the protector saved the ribs...etc. Just sayin....glad to see that smile....!

Lol pretty much
Broke my collar bone on that bike! Racing 125s!
I still blame dad for making it run to good!!
Lol I know the collar bone seems to be a weak point in the human body against dirt bikes !
grab some plate steel and fab up a temp clutch
For sure could do that ! He's never ridden with a clutch before so I want him to learn the transition
