    What I don't understand is why can't we use the HELIX for the EUROSONG Final, it's been used for the VOICE, so the stage is larger and would give us a better idea of what to expect at EUROVISION

    Connelly is my pick! It's beautiful. It gives me Enya, Billie Eilish and the melody also reminds me of Coldplay's 'Clocks'.
    I love it. With a little revamp, I can see this being staged beautifully. It's my favourite of the lot.

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea i didnt realise that this is the demo version, and she wrote the whole song herself. Shes doing a small revamp for the final and hoping she focuses on the final third and gives it more texture.
      PRAYING that shes a talented performer as well!!! Her or Adgy FTW

    • @AmaanStorm
      @AmaanStorm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ESCTom yeah, I agree....the last bit needs more texture, although I do love how it slowly builds and builds. Her voice is so pure, and it really does showcase the Irish identity.
      I think the trouble I'm having with Adgy is that weve seen what happens when slick dance type tracks are entered in eurovision. A good example would be Ryan Dolan. A similar, upbeat, dance-pop track, and we all know how that ended up.
      That said, Adgy's effort is better, but I think that Connelly has what it takes to stand out.

      I totally thought of clocks too when I heard Connolly, I think it’s my fave. ADGY is good too but it needs a revamp, his voice is so good though. Wild youth is a very generic song and sounds to me like Nicky Byrnes song.

    I have a theory why RTE bolt the Eurosong onto The Late Show Tom, remember how it took apparently 25 years for Montreal to pay off the debt from the Olympics? Well, Ireland did stage all those contests back in the 90’s……😂

  • @ESCHayden
    @ESCHayden ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The thing about Wild Youth's song is while the lyrics are as you describe, the song is quite anthemic and catchy. The last part is quite a moment. I'm not saying it's a definite qualifier, but I do think it's Ireland's best hope here. (Not feeling Connolly as some are)
    As for having Irish songs, yes that would be nice, but out of the 300 or so submitted, only 1 was in Irish. Crazy, I know, but hardly RTE's fault, I suppose.
    Some are very worried about PIL winning. I'm not. I'm sure the Irish public aren't that stupid. Plus, they'll be tanked by the national and international juries.

  • @Hydraas
    @Hydraas ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Agree Ireland needs a dedicated NF show. My top 3 are Leila, Conolly, Adgy. Leila is my favourite by far, I love that genre. Conolly has a decent song but personally I don't feel the love that a lot of people seem to have for it. Too Good for your Love is the kind of song I would blast in my headphones but for Eurovision I worry a lot for it since dance tracks never do well. The only one I don't want to represent is Public Image Limited since Johnny has spoken degradingly about the contest so I don't know why he was picked for Eurosong at all

    Unbelievable . Maybe at the end the Aaahhhs different with a violin?
    Def. Tom a winner !!!

    I think it’s easy to be more critical when judging your own countries songs. It’s a relatively strong National Final in my opinion! Adgy, Leila and Connolly have good songs - (Connolly is a little too repetitive for me but revamp rumors give me hope). Send Adgy and you will qualify.

    I think most are of the opinion that Connolly or ADGY would be our best options. Bloody devastated by Wild Youth’s song, I completely share your opinion that it sounds written for what an outsider’s perception of Eurovision is. I’m also highly concerned that it could win the national final. I have no confidence in our national “jury” calling interpretative dancers on a bed immaculate staging and giving Adele vocal tips. Wild youth could also very well win the televote.
    I share your concern on staging ADGY’s song and I know many have pointed out that Connolly’s song is a demo but I have no confidence in RTE revamping it and I don’t think it would qualify as it is. I’d rather take the risk on staging ADGY than sending Connolly with an incomplete track. Having said that I’d much prefer if they did something with the extra 20 seconds in ADGY’s track to give it a bridge or some other element; ending after the 2nd chorus is just abrupt and a little unsatisfactory.
    Finally get this off the Late Late Show. It’s actually damaging our entries. Brooke had a decent initial following and the song just consistently fell down the rankings after that abysmal slumber party staging on the late late that was lazily continued throughout the pre parties. We salvaged it for the actual contest but the damage was almost irreversible by a real lack of initiative and creativity from the National Final.
    Anyways I’m happier with this selection. But please revamp whatever song wins. We have 2 nearly complete songs and with a little effort we actually have a decent qualification chance

      @AmaanStorm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I get Enya too, and that's a good thing. A song that plays on the beautiful lilting melody and delivers a haunting Irish vocal can be staged incredibly. I do hope she wins.

    Big improvement from last year, let’s get that final spot Ireland!

  • @Shellydaliie
    @Shellydaliie ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Tom, I'm sure you're aware of this but I'd imagine our jesc result this year wouldn't have had a bearing on the entries sent in for eurosong this year as the selection to pick songs for eurosong wouldve already been underway before Solas came out.
    In relation to the songs. Midnight summer night is listed as a demo on Spotify and I think I heard it could be revamped for the selection. It reminds me of Lana del ray and the cranberries.
    For Wild Youth it does feel very "written for Eurovision sounding" which I was hoping it wouldn't be. Its not bad but lyrically its not bad its a little throwaway. Same feeling as yourself on qualification, could scrape in but I think potential nq.
    To me Wild sounds like an Irish nf song to me or like "written for Eurovision" which again feels disappointing. I wouldn't personally pick this song.
    I actually don't hate K Muni and ND's song, I mean I doubt it'd get selected but I think its a nice change of pace in a selection (most seem to be disregarding it). I appreciate it for adding diversity.
    The song Hawaii already has negativity surrounding it because he's been openly sh*tting on esc in the last week and ofc getting a lot of publicity for it. The song already was my least favourite (I didnt hate it just felt indifferent) but that added publicity stunt bs, I'd be worried if the public decided to go for it, I doubt it but ig its not unheard of.
    Adgy's song is my taste anyway so I'm biased in liking this. It'll be hard to stage and I doubt it'll win coz of how difficult it is to stage but I really like it. Giving Joel Corry,Sandro and Meduza.
    My top 2 is Adgy, Connelly, the rest I'd rather not get selected.
    Also side note: no idea why but were like 6th in the odds 😂.

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yea thats true about the songwriters, but i meant was that Id hoped it would put a bit of pressure on RTE, particularly in the form of giving Eurosong a proper show, but nope.
      yea i was a bit concerned about Hawaii too, the song is kind of shit and so it seems he's purposefully courting the anti-Eurovision troll vote. Honestly the votes always look a little diddled to me anyway, so i'm sure that they can just manipulate the jury votes to avoid that hopefully.
      Adgy's song is great and ive had it on repeat. its not impossible to stage these songs but the success rate so far is pretty much 0%

    • @Shellydaliie
      @Shellydaliie ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ESCTom Yeah I'd really like for RTE to have a separate show for the selection. As you've mentioned in previous videos, if Estonia (a country quarter our size) can host such a professional selection, we've no excuse.
      For me and what I'd like to unfold in our selection, I'd like it to be between Adgy and Connelly. I think Connelly can win,especially if its revamped for the selection. I think it'll be between Wild Youth, Connelly and unfortunately PiL (I so hope it flops for the sake of not having a Dustin the turkey like publicity campaign and defeatist attitude when it comes last in the semi). I'm not really expecting Leila or K muni and ND to win. Also agree on the success rate of songs like Adgy but I do think Austria would've qualified last year if they had a competent vocalist.

  • @JamieFM_

    • @AmaanStorm
      @AmaanStorm ปีที่แล้ว

      @@АлексейЗаботкин-т1х yup....Ryan Dolan stalled badly with his dance track coming last. I think its hard for the every day Eurovision audience to connect to a dance track if it doesn't have emotions or feelings.
      Hence why i feel its best to go forward with a song that sounds typically Irish in its delivery rather than a generic banger that doesn't say anything about your culture. Other countries tend to celebrate their culture, or the very thing that makes them renowned as a country, and I feel Connelly really does bring the 'Irish' sound/quality.
      The Eurovision public loved Eimear Quinn when she won with 'The voice' (even though it was years ago). Whose to say Connelly wouldn't ignite the same interest.

    Well now Tom!!
    Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!
    Someone is being a little too harsh here methinks!
    If these songs were in the Albanian, Maltese, Latvian national finals you'd be losing your shit!
    I was no fan of HoD's vision last year but i won't knock him this year. 5 melfest rejects and Brendan Murray (🙉) just didn't cut it last year. This year we have a "London sound" rap/r&b song, a vibey ""Enya" track, a soft rock anthemic effort, the legend that is John Lydon ( have you never heard "Rise" by PiL) and 2 uptempo efforts... They mightn't be winners but at least we have diversity....at last!
    As for how these could do?. I hear 3 qualifiers.
    1. ADGY......this is a banger......so different from Ireland and i like.
    2 Connolly.......funnily enough, i think this would be elevated in an arena. Easy enough to stage. Beautiful palette of dark blues/black LED. And even through in an interpretive dancer or 2...done
    3 Leila Jane.........don't know what you were hearing but this is a tune!!!
    Wouldn't be mad if any of these 3 won but my favourite?
    LEILA JANE and "Wild"......LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ❤️ this song!!

      yea i think this is an improvement on last year, i wish theyd just expanded it to 7 songs and put the Cruachan song in, then it would have felt REALLY diverse.
      I want Connolly or ADGY.
      With Connolly, we're going to get a better version on the show, but her performance ability is a total unknown. just praying shes a hidden talent and has a cool staging idea. With ADGY, its just about doing the impossible and working out how to stage an EDM song. Would LOVE him to unlock the secret code, but history is against him.

      @ESC Tom my 1 concern about CONNOLLY is why a demo at this stage?.......its not as if we don't know when the ESC is held every year. Was this a rushed after thought?
      We always say that artists should be true to themselves and their own style.. that is why I'm a real fan of "Wild". Its seems an authentic effort by Leila Jane. This is the type of music I'd choose to listen to anyway and i have it on repeat. I'll get you on board if it kills me Tom!!
      That said i definitely wouldn't be mad if CONNOLLY or Adgy wins.
      All 3 would be credible entries imo.

    I think it's definitely a step up from last year's Irish NF, with more variety in styles and songs that are actually outside of the "typical Eurovisiony" mould that RTÉ always seems to use. That being said, most songs are decent but seem too safe and lack something of and edge or oomph. There's no Brooke that immediately says "winner" and none of these immediately say "qualifier" to me, although some of them might if performed well.
    Connolly has a kind of typically Irish (to me at least) dreamy feeling that I like. This could work.
    Wild Youth is a bit of a letdown: I liked them when they were discussed as potential candidates last year, but this is very safe stuff. Makes me thing of that Australian band Shepherd, just less catchy. They would need a fantastic performance.
    Leila Jane is really Lesley Roy 2.0.
    K'Muni and ND: hmmm nice for the sake of variety, that's all I can say really
    Public Image Limited: this is just a no. It's got character, but it's not very good.
    Adgy: it's OK... it's fun... could work... could fall flat too...
    Overall, sorry Tom, I'm not very optimistic... but let's wait and see what they're like live.

    I was a punk back in the day Tom, saw The Pistols live in 76 and had a few albums by PiL. John Lydon is certainly intelligent and charismatic - but he really doesn't suffer fools gladly. That would worry me - the endless circus of interviews with community fan sites asking the same, sometimes, inane questions over and over and over again. He would just walk off stage. If Ireland want an entrant who is going to engage with the community, be endearing and enthusiastic, well John Lydon is no Sam Ryder. RTE probably considered that but at the end of the day their involvement probably produces a lot of hype for the national final.
    Luckily I don't think you'll have that problem. Hawaii is ambient music with no recognisable verse, chorus, verse structure - it certainly has it's own merits but ambient music doesn't really have a place at ESC just yet. And yes - the grannies will absolutely be losing their knickers (great line!)

    I find connellys chorus just too repitive. Id also worry is the song a bit more suited to studio than live.. (a critique enya had of her own music). Fave part is the ahh ahh ahh. Very irish feel. Needs staging and a good later placing.
    Love Wild Youths style and voice. This song is not this. Just a bit generic. A bit of the nicky byrne effect (but not as bad as sunlight), imo.
    Leila Janes is a nice song. Great voice. Kind of a bit of a stereotypical Irish eurovision entry. Impossible to stage imo. Its grand not earth shattering.
    K Muni is on my playlist. Love it. But not for eurovision.
    PIL no just no.
    Adgy.. i love it. I think lighting more than people are needed for stage. My issue is with the live performance. I think hes the best chance to qualify. He will revamp.. and has played with adding some celtic textures. Connolly also promising a revamp before and after eurosong if she wins.
    Ultimately, its definitely better than last year.

    Another disappointing year. Late late will have an older audience voting. Agree that it need late late needs to go as the voting program. RTÉ don’t want Eurovision as we don’t have anywhere to host a Eurovision either.
