I liked it wasn't the traditional "all ends well" kind of story. The theme from the beginning is duty and sacrifice and they stuck to that through to the end.

I don’t know if people realized it or not, but FFXV, even in the Versus XIII days, was always meant to be a tragedy. Noctis was meant to die from the very beginning, something that was hinted at already with the names and symbolism. So idk what y’all mean by this happy ending or whatever, but that’s not the one I waited 7 years for. Yes Tabata may have gone a little too hard on the tragedy and that made people want a “happier ending”, but that just messes up Noctis’s character development, which is the whole point of the story. If a story isn’t complete without a character dying, then I want that character to die dammit. Screw happy endings.
It's the conflict within ourselves that doesn't want the main character to die. Because he's built to be a hero and we all have this assumption that heroes have a happy ending...it's not true. We either die heroes or live long enough to see ourselves become the villian. I agree with you. We already knew he was going to die.
In fact, if he lived it would have been a horrible game lol. We would have just been like "oh man, it doesn't matter he gets a happy ending anyway". It's the idea that he dies or is going to die that makes the tragedy so beautiful. We loath tragedy...we just don't want to admit it. Why is Romeo and Juliet such history worthy? Because it's the famous tragedy story.
You know, I would've liked a story where Ardyn was the First king instead of Somnus the Mystic, and have a story where Noct has to beat a either Ifrit only or another Astral corrupted by the Scourge. I don't mind that Noct died, but you can't really tell if Gladio, Promto, and Iggy died or they survived. I know that they kinda had a low chance considering all those daemons they had to face. But it would've been nice to see a funeral for Noct made by the Choco-bros, honoring him one last time and rebuilding Insomnia in Noct's name. Then, they darken the screen and have a narrator tell a kid or kids that was how the Starscourge was beaten years ago, thereby allowing them to expand the FFXV universe. Sure daemons would be out as adversaries, but they could use a rebuilt Niflheim empire as the antogonists again. Or a sequel could be so far into the XV future that daemons could be manmade as disposable soldiers like magitek soldiers are.
This is the proof that the game wasn't finished when it came out, it's a shame that companies sell games the way they sold FF15, the DLC were a pretty important part of the story and the ending was confusing and precipitate, this is an effort to make it right but it's too late, the story could have been a great one but they failed hard, I hate that they said that Lunafreya was gonna be a strong character and in the end was just a tool for Noctis to progress, so sad what it turned out to be
when i played through the game when it came out i already knew that the season pass was going to be what your companions were doing when they left during the story and had fuck all explanation what happened or what they were doing. felt like such a rip-off charging 30 bucks for something that should have been in the game to begin with
for confusing I mean when Noctis was asleep for 10 years with almost no explanation, from there to the finish it's just a rush with little explanation, seems to me that they had that Noctis grown up model and they wanted to use it but they didn't know how, that 10 years sleeping and waking up in that cell was lame, same as bahamut summon, he basically missed every attack on ifrit and that didn't even kill him so it was pretty useless, they were like "oh no we still haven't used bahamut, shiva and ifrit but we did models for them how do we use them? well we use ifrit as a boss and use shiva to kill him, oh good idea, what about bahamut? well we use it to go to "fase 2 ifrit" exelent idea boss
well that's my point that the game was rushed and could of been one of the best Final Fantasy's but they did all kind of mistakes and changes that were disapointing to me and a lot of people

I think it's a fanboy issue. I understand that XIII Versus concept was really cool and dark, but they decided to switch it. It's just that. XV is different, it's not bad. It's not the same as, for example, with Star Wars Battlefront III and EA Battlefront. Because EAfront is different and bad.

That’s not the elder scroll theme, that theme is from all the boss fights with the astrals and Ardyan, but maybe some inspiration the composer did say she had been inspired by some games.

I was 20 when I was hyped for this game now Im 30. I can safely say this is most probably the last Final Fantasy game I will ever play. Its a shame I was disappointed over how tragic,sad and grim the story was. I was hoping for Noct to have some happiness but what little he had from the journey with his friends even that he had to toss away and die. Ultimately perhaps the only good thing is he joined Luna in death. Oh Poor Iris...

To be honest, i like the story before this "patch" or "update". It was like drama and seem appropriate enough for me. While this... this bad soundtrack in new cutscenes, this "happyend", this pathetic edited story, i don't seem to like it more than it was before. The previous story was dark, hopeless and thus i wanted to know how it ends as felt that there would be no happy end. Moreover it looked like the life of noctis, let's name it "after"(his father's death and niflheim's invasion), was no under his control and he was doomed to suffer because that's his king's fate. But, i like that square enix made ffxv for pc, even though i'm playing on console, these graphics are IMPRESSIVE. All in all, the ffxv is still the game that i'm ready to play for days.

Are the Kings of Yore the giants that they summoned in Kingsglaive? I wondered why that was never a part of the game.

They are daemonified statues of former kings called the old wall, and yea, they're the ones from Kingsglaive, iirc.
