- Held on June 20, 1986 at the Araneta Coliseum and aired at RPN Channel 9, the 22nd Anniversary (23rd edition) of Bb. Pilipinas Pageant was participated in by thirty-six Official Candidates that includes then sixteen teen-year old Fil-Am and neophyte model, Alice Dixson who was eventually crowned as Bb. Pilipinas International.
A lot of young pageant fans are still wondering why Alice didn't get the top plum of Bb. Pilipinas Universe, Alice was actually a month short of becoming seventeen at that time, (born July 28, 1969) the minimum age requirement for Miss International, she is not qualified for the Miss Universe Pageant which is to be held in a month's time on July 21, 1986 in Panama City, Panama. Miss Universe delegates must at least be 18 years old at the time of the pageant, thus Pampanguena Violeta Asela Naluz was given the Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1986 title.
The Bb. Pilipinas 1986 Coronation Night was hosted by actors Edu Manzano and Miguel Rodriguez (+) and anchored by Chiqui Hollman-Yulo. A distinguished line up of personalities comprises the members of the judging panel that includes Miss Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco and then Presidential Son Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
The winners of the pageant who were dubbed as "People Power Beauties" are Christine Bonifacio (2nd r-up), Catherina Salazar (1st r-up), Ma. Cristina Recto, Bb. Pilipinas Maja, Alice Dixson, Bb. Pilipinas International and Violeta Asela Naluz, Bb. Pilipinas Universe.

Noon ay mas malumanay at mas basic lang talaga ang rampahan sa swimsuit. Parang basic modelling na pirmeng lakad at ngiti lang, hindi tulad ngayon na panay hampasan ng balakang, flipping of hair, na halos VS model na ang standard.
Sana ibalik ng BPCI ang MISS MAJA title. Nga lang ang inactive or hiatus na ang Miss Maja International since 2020. 😞May mga pageant systems kasi na nag-hiatus na simula nung pandemic at tila ayaw pang bumalik-- possibly due to funding and/or sponsorship issues. 😞

I love the way the ladies walked during the swimsuit segment. Graceful swaying of the hips unlike today when there is so much head snapping and unnatural opening of the mouth.
I thought #23 Lourdes Leoncio had a chance. Maganda, elegant and she responded well to the boyfriend or marriage question.

I don’t understand why # 17 was overlooked. For me she is hands down the winner especially if beauty, height & figure is considered. Her wit , grace & regal walk cannot be ignored thou.

Ito ang era na super haba at super bagal pa noon ng BBP. Tanda ko pa noon na puyat kung puyat dahil LIVE ang telecast-- start kayo ng 9pm...... crowning susmaryosep ay 1am na. Pero binago yan ng ABSCBN noong 1995-1997 dahil nilagyan nila ng semis/top 10 agad sa start kaya mas mabilis ang pacing. This practice would not be resumed until the 2017 edition. However, since 2011, ay mas mabilis na ang execution ng ABSCBN sa BBP editions-- as in faster paced ang mga intros, swimsuits, gowns and then QNA finalists na.

De-hamak na mas maganda at mas simple ang styling dito ni Violeta Naluz kumpara noon sa MUn 1986 na ang kapal ng make-up niya at super frizzy hairdo-- yung stylist niya sa MU 1986 siguro ang may pakana nun na, kung tutuusin, ay hindi rin naman niya kontrolado dahil wala rin siyang sapat na training noon. Had she retained her basic styling then , maybe, she would have stood out eve more, Just wishful thinking,

A "sin of omission" was committed against Catherine Salazar, by the pageant host during the Grand Coronation Night. Seems like a Steve Harvey scenario in Miss Universe 2015...
Good thing though, toxic pageant fans, social media, publicity and controversial hungry media and pageant websites and forums are non-existent in those era and the major booboo was not magnified, the mistake was immediately rectified and treated as a non-issue and the show went on as usual.

Alice Dixson is not yet qualified for Miss Universe 1986 that time because she was still 16 yrs old and will turn 17 only by July 1986, the Miss Universe Pageant has its pageant rule that delegates must be at least 18 years old by the time of the respective National Pageants of the participating candidates.

Violeta Naluz won in June 20, 1986 after a week she flew to Panama City to compete at the 1986 Miss Universe, wala pang pageant camp that time at mas lalong walang training to begin with, the Candidates are on their own that's why. Kaya big advantage kapag ramp model ang nanalong Bb. Pilipinas Universe tulad nila Chat Silayan (+) Desiree Verdadero at Pebbles Asis. Violeta Naluz was just 17 that time at hindi naman ramp model, walang sabotaheng naganap, sadya lang milya milya ang dating ng mga Latina nung mga panahong yun kumpara sa atin.
The winner in 1986 was alleged a product of plastic surgeon from Osmel Souza's famed Venezuelan beauty queen factory. As compared to Ms Violeta Naluz fresh Filipina features. I don't think milya ang layo ng mga latina sa ating kandidata. Dahil sa preliminary swimsuit sa na flash na score mas mataas pa si Violeta sa ilang latin candidates like Bolivia, Ecuador, El Salvador at Dominican Republic. At nakita natin sya sa kanyang performance, sa opening dance, pati sa number kasama ang Miami Sound Machine bigay todo sya. Di lang sya feel ng mga judges. Look sa top 5 puro panga si Poland, mukhang lola si Switzerland at Finland. At yung iba sa 10, di maganda si Chile at Zaire. Thank you sir Francis sa pag upload.

Basta't ayan na ang makeup, accesories, and clothes mo at bahala ka na. Ni walang QNA coaching kaya siguro medyo nahirapan o nabigla noong 1984 si Desiree pero ang cute ng pagdadala niya sa pagka-candid niya sa top 10 interview and top 5 QNA sa MU 1984.
