Kia Sorento 2.2 Diesel 2023 [Genting Climb] Which to Choose, Diesel or Gasoline? | YS Khong Driving

- The Kia Sorento, now under the care of Dinamikjaya, the new distributors for the Kia brand, comes in gasoline and diesel versions, also with options of 6 or seven seats, 2WD for the 2.5 gasoline version, and 6 seater with AWD for the Diesel and Gasoline versions.
The simplified interpretation says there is
1) 2.5 lit gasoline 7 seater, 2WD,
2) 2.5 liter gasoline engone with 6 seats and AWD
3) 2.2 Diesel 6 seats and AWD.
So which one would I choose?

The interior looks pretty luxurious . I am surprise how well the car handles the corners and the speed going uphill seems very effortless .I think after this review , this car sales with go up ! Great driving Uncle !
Even Some Korean Cars Brand Haters Say Kia Sorento Is Expensive Not Worthy But For Me It Is Very Worth For Money Even More Expensive Than Japan Because Korean Cars Have More Reliable And Looks More Solid And Premium When Handling.👍🏻
I have the GT line diesel Sorento in Australia. It is almost 2 years old now with 55,000 kms. I love this car so much. There is nothing about this car I wish it had. I have tested the autonomous ability of the car with me alone in it. I put something on the steering wheel to fool the car I had my hand on it. It drove for 90kms by itself at 110kms/h along the express way. It does rely heavily on the quality of the centre and side markings/lines of the road. I consistently get over 900kms (939 - 979) range from a tank of fuel, either town driving or highway. I always had V6 petrol cars before this diesel. Wow, I wished I had the diesel many years ago. Better fuel economy and much punchier driving. Great torque from the engine, even towing 1 ton in a trailer. I fitted a dongle and now have wireless Android auto.
A great share. Thank you for your input. However, do keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. The steering assist relies very heavily on the lines as you said, and turns off when it cannot read: we need the infrasture to be 100 percent before venturing into autonomous driving.
Currently owning 2015 Santa Fe Diesel … already satisfied with its performance, so effortless to pick up the pace, going uphills with no sweat. I appreciate Hyundai/Kia continuing 2.2 diesel engine in their cars… judging from the video I can see how much refined the Kia Sorento is.

I am from Sri Lanka and must be of your age. I have an older 2.2 AWD Diesel model. Can you remember how often you said "good car'' and "nice". Those expressions said everything about this car. I also felt the power of the car the way you were driving. Often I drive fast but as not as you especially when taking corners. Thank you for this superb video. if they sell 2nd hand around RM130k to 140k ... Year 2023 model.. it would be good to buy. I am tempted to buy as I used Kia Spectra before.. handling memang sedap in highway..

The Sorento is a D segment SUV so is a bit bigger than all of these

Sistem safety Kia/Hyundai semakin advance, Kia global price sudah naik lebih 17%.
Smooth engine diesel 2.2T x bising teruk bila layan bukit.
Carnival full tank can go maximum 1.2Kkm I think sorento can go long distance 1Kkm.
But the price mahal teruk 😅.

The Forester does not have the power, so is a little slower. The Forester handles well too

The Proton X90 is a very affordable SUV, because it is a National car with some tax breaks. It is slightly smaller.
The diesel version more fun to drive

Uncle kong, the carnival is my favourite car. Saved money to get it and recently booked. Now so sad as govt announced no subsidy, thinking if i should switch to sorento 2.5 petrol.. only downside the 6 seater is not what i prefer , but 7 seater has low specs… any advise on why carnival will still be a better choice.. in rgds to fuel consumption ?
Buy what you need. If you need a lower operating cost, then that is the more important factor.
If you can afford the Carnival, then go for it.
Enjoyment is more important, so if you can afford it, go for it.
Mr.Khong, what if 6 adults plus cargo in the sorento going up genting, is it still as quick?
It will be a bit slower, but still quick.

This one is a D segment SUV, and has a powerful diesel turbo - not many equivalent SUVs to the Sorento. The CX8 diesel is very close.
I believe they do not sell cx-8 diesel awd anymore.

Kia Sorento MQ4 Malaysian-spec better than Philippine-spec......because Malaysia-spec has All Wheel Drive.

Specs depend on the local distributor as it affects tbe cost.
2.5 petrol engine sound louder than 2.2 diesel...m i rite.
The sound level in different recordings may vary due to mic placement and also the mic sound level, so it is not a fair comparison.

Yes it is.
The current gen Proton SUV's, be it the X50, X70, X90, they only really win in terms of value for money. Of course, price advantage being a "local" brand.
But look aside the price, the Japanese and Korean competitors still have a lot to offer, especially when it comes to refinement.

@@M_H_H not true...paddle shifters if use at the right time it can be very helpful! Uncle YS do use it when he don't wanna the gear box to up shift by itself. It can be very dangerous at certain point of time when it up shift by itself, the car might lose control!
@Ler Zong Haw okay I accept that perspective. But everyone I know who really want paddle shifter but when they get the car with it they never use it
