I think is more that non musiciands find it hard to "hear" what the bass does, lets say the non musician have a guitar o piano hero but musicians and ear trained people have a bass hero.

@@warloshernandez yeah it took my mum 20 mins in to hear the bass in a song where it was quite audible - I had to find an isolated track of the bass before she heard it
I'm blessed with hearing the bass in pretty much any song a bass is actually present in now
