Yes, we do recommend doing a very thin layer of clear before applying glitters or colored acrylic. This will make it easier when you file off the glitter/color. Stop filing when you get through the glitter/color and you still have the layer of clear to protect the nail to avoid over filing.

Just work thinner. It works wonderful. Also, practice this because you don't want to go too thin. You need to make it thick enough for strength.
