Fishing steelhead with spoons in Norcal rivers, I learned an effective technique; when the lure swings in to a strong current, try back reeling, letting out line, instead of reeling it in. This will keep the current from overwhelming the lure, and keep it closer to the bottom. Then, when you swing it in near shore, start reeling in to bring the lure up out of the junk. BTW, this channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I've learned more about hard body lure construction from your videos than 20 years of reading books on the subject. I quit fishing 5 years ago (The Cali DFG fishing reg book is a quarter inch thick now, and just a base license alone was $50 last time I bought one), but watching your videos still brings a smile to this old man's mug. I realize this video is from July, but he's only a couple of months old at this point, so congratulations on becoming a dad! I have two sons myself and they're 7 and 10, so you could say that I've been at it for a while. It truly is a blessing brother. I am a once terminal cancer survivor, so it's especially a blessing to me that I have one, let alone two, but seriously, enjoy him while he's young, because it really doesn't last long. Before you know it he'll be walking, talking, and then asking for money...lol Really though, the time goes by so fast and it gets hard to look back and remember what it was like when he was a baby with the little cute smiles that melt your heart, his first step, his first birthday, and so many other important moments, and it makes you sad that you didn't spend every waking moment with him because you had to keep a roof over your family's head and food in their mouths. I'm 36 now, and I miss every single day of both of my boys lives as a toddler.

Catfishes are mostly behind stones or similar where the stream of the river isnt so hard and fast. They‘re often just lying on the bottom waiting for baitfish.

Safety wire pliers. We use them in the Air Force, will do everything you've been doing much easier and neater. Oh and big congratz to you both!

It gives the bait a bit of a springy action so you can kind of make it pulse as you retrieve it. I've had a lot of success with them.
