- It’s a celebration for Fatou for her 65th birthday. She lives at Berlin Zoo and is the world’s oldest living gorilla. The life expectancy for a gorilla is about 40, so at 65, Fatou is a legend. In human years, that’s over 100 years old. She’s living her best life and doing what many love to do on birthdays - grub on cake. Hers is made of boiled rice, curd, vegetables, raspberries and blueberries. Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall has more.

Honestly living her best life would be out in the wild but I understand that sometimes we can't make that happen. I hope she truly is happy where is and well taken care of.

I'm curious if she would welcome another type of animal for company. Like let her see various ones with a bar between to ensure safety just to gauge whether there would be aggression. If lonely she might welcome the company of a baby of something else perhaps a kitten, or try a very young gorilla for her to foster.

In the wild she'd be dead by 19 and likely would've died a painful death.
At least in captivity she has warmth, she doesn't have to worry about predators or other similar dangers, she has food, water, and company by the zookeepers.

Aw, I had a book about KoKo the gorilla when I was young, I wrote a letter to her when I was 10 and said I wanted her as a pet. She was so smart, she knew sign language and she loved animals like kittens and dogs. She died at 47 in 2018 😭
