    Fun fact, Reading Pennsylvania, where these guys are from has kinda been the epicenter of a Progressive Death Metal scene the last few years. So yea you know where this is going Bryan, I'm making my occasional appearance to nudge you towards that Black Crown Initiate reaction, being they're from Reading Pennsylvania just like Rivers of Nihil is, and share a genre :P Oh yea, and dancing tamberine dude from Owls know my name? Thats Black Crown's Clean vocalist/rhythm guitarist Andy Thomas.
    If you want to see them at their best, that deput EP The Song of the Crippled Bull is one 20min song split into 4 parts, and it is an absolute masterpiece.
    Completely unrelated but I'm digging the flowing locks you're rocking too lol

    Here's the breakdown: "where owls know my name" was the more proggier track off that album. The other single from that album, "the silent life", is more their usual style, which is closer to what this song is. They are primarily a death metal band with proggy elements thrown in here and there.

      Gotcha. So the one song I like isn't indicative of their overall sound. Story of my life 🤣

      I'm hoping their overall sound is moving further toward the far more interesting sound of the title track. Their last album is the first album that I have liked from this band because of those proggy elements they threw in to build on their sound. Based off this song, they are continuing to shift to a more dynamic sound and I'm loving where they are going. That middle section of this song reminds me so much of Pink Floyd and I'm so interested to hear to what they do with the full album.

    The first time I listened I thought it was good. I found myself thinking about it through out the next couple of days and had to listen to it again and kind of loved it. After thinking/listening to it again and again I think it might be a 10/10. Almost every element of this song is top notch and is a highlight

    I cant wait for this album to drop. It's going to be amazing. They are definitely another one of those bands you just never know what your going to get from song to song, you just know it's going to be great.

    Heard this a few weeks ago. It's an interesting track. Superficially it's pretty simple, but there are some nice, nuanced touches, especially in how it sets the tone and plays with repetition for establishing that mood before it erupts and then settles back into another moody section. I'm not sure if I would call any of the sections super compelling individually, but I think it adds up to more than the sum of its parts because of the structure and contrast. I still get the feeling that RoN doesn't quite know if they're a more traditional DM band, or prog metal, or something else, like here they're almost playing with doom and psychedelic elements, but without committing to anything. It simultaneously makes them interesting and frustrating, and the latter mostly comes from me wanting them to dive deeper into these other genres rather than just adding them as a spice.

    Certainly a great song in my mind. Did enjoy it more from my second listen though. Love the progressive doominess!
    I can see why you enjoyed Where Own Know My Name more, it being a more progressive song in "style" and with that wonderful sax that's lacking here.
    Anyways, strong analysis (it's your trademark 😊)

      And that bass riff seems so familiar from before.... (Could it be from the fellow French Klone??)

      I feel kinda bad for thinking this but the whole synth solo I wished was that sax from the previous album, the sound just plays better with my ears I guess, but I know they don't want to be pigeonholed as 'the prog-death-sax band' and have their fair share of reasons for switching it up. I'm sure it'll make more sense in the context of the full album, but still missing the sweet sax. Really love this song as a whole though and ready to be blown away with the full release :).

      It worked a little better for me on a second listen but at this moment it doesn't hold a candle to Owls. But I suppose there is also the situation where this song works well in the context of the album with contrasting songs to balance out the heaviness here (if they do that kind of thing).

    • @thefilmeffect6089
      @thefilmeffect6089 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can you not like the main rhythm/melody on this song? That atmospheric almost Pink Floyd like middle section into the solo is something I can't get enough of. I think you will be satisfied once the album comes out and you here this song in the context of the full album and it's concept.

    • @hachikuji_mayoi

      @@thefilmeffect6089 It's the riffs I think. This song has its moments and I don't think it's a bad one, I just don't enjoy it nearly as much as I did the previous ones. I'm also not going to judge the entire album based on one song.
