The band went through some major changes in line-up after their latest album The Work. Their singer and rhythm guitarist left the band and guitarist Andy Thomas from Black Crown Initiate came in. Also Rivers of Nihil's bassist started to sing lead vocals and Andy Thomas offers additional vocals. So this might have drastically affected their sound and style on upcoming albums. The other new single called The Sub-Orbital Blues was much more groovey and catchy with lots of clean vocals but this one reminds me of their earlier albums where they played more this raw tech death. Where the Owls Know My Name is kind of pinacle in their discography and the title track is kind of odd ball even if you compare it to other tracks on that album. So no wonder if you're not finding anything like that song.
This brought 'Where owls know my name' to me, of which I'll eternally be grateful. That IS an incredible song. This is not on the same level, although I do like the fact it was filmed in a pub. In fairness, The Silent Life is more like this style, but it's EPIC! Very similar in power to Meshuggah / Gojira stuff
Wow I haven’t heard their new music and this is how I’m finding out their vocalist left. I’m glad I got to see them live a couple of times when they were in full form. The lyrics on this are just so not my thing, like something I would have written in my livejournal when I was 13.
It's a prog metal band that made a series of 4 consecutive conceptual albums and people don't seem to get that the lyrics are written from the perspective of a particular kind of person lmao. Also just a pretty good song taken from the Work sessions. Not overly progressive & complex but it's a memorable metal tune if you enjoy heavy metal songs. Unfortunately most people want every song to be Where Owls Know My Name even though most of their songs arent that. The Work is btw a great album that the bandwagon brigade appears to overlook, much more in the style of Pink Floyd as a death metal band that Where Owls Know My Name (the album) hinted at. They did more of the prog rock stuff with the Work and ppl outside the core fanbase didnt really go crazy for that, now they put out a couple more straightforward metal tracks and people complain about that too. They did fire their lead vocalist after The Work and he has very distinctive death metal vocals, but important to note that he didn't write their lyrics, they still have the same core songwriter & lyricist.
Good Friday evening...I've been a fan of RON since Where Owls Know My Name...Man was I in for a shock when I heard their other stuff lol...These guys got talent for miles...I also enjoyed how the drums were in the mix...I knew those clean vocals were coming but didn't know when amazing song and musicianship 🤘🧐✌️
I enjoyed the sound of the track, but the Where Owls Know My Name album is their peak for me. But in general their way of blending and contrasting melodic vs technical side is why their brand of tech death clicks with me more than pure tech death bands like Archspire.
Did not know this was coming out. Was pretty disappointed with their last album, and while I enjoyed this it's definitely much more iterative, straight-forward modern DM than Owl, but it's a single so it's of course difficult to know how representative of the album it is. Will still be checking it out, but with the trepidation that they hit their peak on Owl.
I had Where Owls Know My Name album on repeat for a few months after hearing the title track. I love that whole album. I think it would really be a good album for you to review. It's not too long and some songs are very atmospheric. And I like that it's conceptual and does like a full circle. This is only the second song that I've heard from them that's not from Owls and I can appreciate some of what they're doing technically but I don't find it as appealing. I did not like this video. I haven't checked out anything else from them. I just don't know if they will top Owls. That whole album is, imo, fantastic if listened to from the beginning to the end.
The tech-y side of things doesn't do much, and so I'm not a fan of this direction, but the previous album was doing some real interesting stuff using Godflesh-ish atonality. One song you will most certainly like is the Void from Which no one Escapes, which is easily the previous album's stand out in terms of showing their compositional range.
Yeah I'm not huge on the new second singer or new style but there's no doubt how talented these guys are. Owls and The Work have enough amazing music to hold me down for years.
Not a huge fan of their new material, and Where Owls Know My Name is one of my favorite record from the past decade. I just don't find the same subtlety in songwriting and lyrics; it's still solid though!
"Sub-orbital blues" - The second newest single is in my opinion way way stronger of a song allround, composition wise, lyrical, thematically... This one is kind of weak compared to that but especially compared to their older work (I know about all their changes and whatnot)
I'm a huge fan of RoN. Bought all their albums. Saw them live. Had the opportunity to speak with their former vocalist Jake, who took the time to have a lengthy conversation with me. All that said, this song sucks. The lyrics are so cringey. It's like a 15 year old trying to write some Grimdark Edgelord emo core BS. I hope this is just a hiccup in what's otherwise been a solid musical journey.
Honestly, this just isn't it for me. Like, it's comically boring compared to the SUPER interesting stuff they used to do. The work had some interesting tracks on it but also some I didn't get into, but I at least really found most of it likeable to some degree. This however feels like a cheap caricature of the band. I'm not saying this to be mean, I'm just so freaking confused, about who thought this track sounded good when they were writing it.
don't know if it'll be like "owls", but you might enjoy their song "the void from which no sound escapes"
Subtle change is their best song
@@jukedem bryan already reacted to it 😅
@@jukedem personally a massive fan of A home and Death is Real :)

12:06 the band parted ways with vocalist that was there on previous albums including "owls"
Oooo ok. That makes sense.
Been a wild week of reactions, thanks Bryan keep smashing out the content👍

Such a banger

Hello, probably unrelated, but just wanted to recommend trying "Afenginn - Klingra" album next. You will be impressed

where owls know my name is the only good song of them
