- Sailing from Cape Town to La Reunion is an off-the-beaten-track 3,000 NM route in some of the roughest waters on the planet. Delos is ready and our new crew has arrived! Time to head to the islands for the winter so we say goodbye to Cape Town and point the bow out into the grey, misty morning. First stop- La Reunion. This was definitely going to be one of our most intense passages ever! We start out with having to sail back around the most Southern tip of Africa, a gnarly stretch of water! But I love how you get to know our three new crew members and how they feel as we get forced into a small harbor to dodge a massive storm coming our way! an intense start to our passage for sure! Hope you enjoy this sailing adventure!

Delos Tribe! This is the first video of the Indian Ocean 2.0 season! It's our first go of mixing different editing techniques with our traditional story line. I think Kazza did a great job. Charley Smith yeah, rapid cuts made that segment feel and look more like an advertisement than actual Delos story.
The hard part from a creators perspective is having to compete with the short attention spans of modern-day media consumers. Constant notifications and scrolling social feeds force us to create content which is fast paced and attention grabbing. Balance is key, story is king. Trying to get that out on a weekly (or more) schedule as close to the live event as possible is insanely difficult for people who live on the move. It's great to see the Delos crew have so many loyal supporters who understand this.
Very good comments. Delos's editing has always been top notch and that is why a 20 minute video just seems to fly by and leave you wanting more. But it's true, too slick of a production can take you out of the moment and actually create a barrier between the viewer and "realness" of the experience. But--there is room for experimentation too! :-)
Charley Smith is spot on. The camera should seem like it's along for the trip, not the purpose of the trip:
I’ve watched this video so many times now. It gives me wonderful SA vibes, hearing those accents again. What’s captured so well is the excitement of a new journey, especially with the new, less experienced crew who have such great energy. And to see Brady so happy with his friends makes me happy. Along with the next few videos, these are the best sailing videos out there. “Can’t be in control of everything - that’s why we go sailing, right?”
Enjoyed it! It was a nice change,, however I myself prefer your traditional format/style . I "myself" don't like the "stylized" feel. Guess I just got hooked on your traditional style over all the years. To me that's what made it so unique , it made you feel like your on the boat , part of the adventure. When too stylized or commercialized production, kinda feel like I'm watching cable tv , which to me is like looking from the outside in , rather than watching from the inside with your traditional style. Either way I watch for ever ! Thanks for the great vid !
I agree with Sail Last. I LOVE SV Delos, You guys have inspired me to change my life. Now I must say, personally can't stand the new editing style. It reminds me of any outdoor adventure doc from 2008-2013. The reason you keep seeing comments with words like "Cinematic" is because outdoor Cinema had 5 good *long* years of this editing technique. In my humble opinion it's a visual technique that should only be used when words can't express emotion.
I agree 100% with Sail Last. Feels too commercialized.... they old traditional format felt much more personal much more like you were on the boat like you knew everyone, that is what made your videos so much better than everyone else.

Good editing imo should not draw attention to itself, it should be smooth and unnoticeable for the most part. Less is more, i.e. gimmicky edits not needed. Thumbs up anyway, still enjoyed, simply giving my honest opinion.

Delos, all I can say is wow, fantastic footage and editing. Truly some really cinema worthy shots in this video. I've watched it twice it's so good. You guys (and gals) are really pushing the envelope in the footage you are shooting and the editing. The wife and I are heading to NZ tomorrow night, we have the Sony AX53 in hand, you inspire me to try to some cool stuff but I know I have much to learn in the post editing area. Again, wow, this video was just so good!!!!

Absolutely Brilliant! You guys rule the waves. I think I have seen every sailing video vlog out there and you just raised your game so much higher. Editing and camera work is excellent. Interesting mix of people in the crew. Looking forward to the further adventures.

watched it again...possibly the best video footage section - Cape Town-Reunion-Madagascar with Kiril behind the camera and editing influence, it's like hours/days of emotions and experience condensed in to seconds, and besides that is possibly one of the best Delos positive and adventurous crew :-)

What a change, It was a lot of fun to see how your adventure/life story has evolved in to a growing enterprise. The daydream is the fun for me, so the reality, hand held goofy happy hippy dippy is what brought me to the party. I am staying for the slick, stylized, high def hi jinks as the crew rotates they all bring there own skills and aptitudes which is big fun. Stay Salty.

Assumed you'd take advantage of Cape Town to refit and repair. I see a new dodger, new instruments,,,,, wondering what other things you had time for or thought were worthwhile. Your videos are amazing and I'm learning so much! Thanks for taking the time to share. I've been retired for one year, bought a trailer/sailor, and making good use of her on inland waters. I have watched some older videos (Late 20's episodes) recently, and the editing style has changed to reflect the personalities of the crew that is on the boat. With that being said, I think this reflects this crew's personality as well. It is all good! I have learned so much about places that I will never get to go. Thank you for sharing!
