I’m in Australia too, and let’s not kid ourselves that Salvos are opportunity shops. That’s why they changed their name to Salvos Stores. I’ve found stuff in there that is more expensive secondhand than it is brand new. The best stuff in there really is the furniture. Your thoughts?
I too have seen things more expensive in those stores than brand new as well. All the good stuff gets taken by staff anyway, op shops are not how they used to be…it’s all business.
There are some vintage things in there, but mostly I only go there to buy stuffed animals for my dog, $1.5 each, my dog can destroy them any time he wants!
Fellow Aussie here. l also used to need my daily dose of copeamine when op shopping. Been a while though since my back says otherwise. Will go soon though to check out the jewellery section. Cheers and enjoyed your vid. Keep growing and sharing
My wife and I had an op shop day before her 1930’s themed 30th birthday, we visited 14 op shops in Adelaide. We did however find some pizza plates very similar to the plates you found, but more of a scene on them, $20 though from an independent op shop. Definitely worth it though!
I can honestly say i knew three of the 4 stores that you went to but did not know about the store that was down the back on the left hand side in blue Ry letting me know that is a score for me THANKS GUYS
That savers looks good Wish we had some fresh blood here in Tas. We only have the usuals (predominantly salvos and Vinnies)and they are getting so expensive!
Savers is more expensive than Vinnies and Salvos and Savers don't do half off clothing. Did you know on Mondays, Salvos Stores sells their previous half off colour tag clothing for $2?
Can confirm that the Western Suburbs of Melbourne isn't the best spot to go thrifting. Savers in Burnside is the best in the area. Went there not long ago but forgot to look in the video games and VHS tapes.
That was a long drive if Box Hill is your local! I've done it before and it's even longer for me. Last time I was in the area of that new Savers it was a few days before it opened. Doh😢. There's some other great op shops in the area that you didn't seem to get to. I need to do a road trip! (I used to live out West and went to uni at VU). Can't get much further east from where I am now without getting lost in the bush😅
Do you guys have a "should have bought the whole lot" story. A time where you maybe bought just one of something cause you didn't know much about the items and then went home and did you research and found out that you should have bought all of them?
“Offended .. anyway 😂” You guys are classic - if I had a question for the next vid it would be: Do you both individually have a specific thing you like to collect and rarely want to sell on? And if you do - what’s special about the nostalgia of that particular genre of item that makes you want to hold onto it?
Hey the op shops in Australia are meant to be donations for the disadvantaged im broke but it is against my morals to try to profit as a career out of it fair enough if you are struggling and need to make ends meet but that remote control car could possibly be a nice resent for a family that cant afford a new one. mixed thoughts on this why not go to garage sales. They do a lot of good in Australia apart from few that use it as a tax free buisness whilst taking advantage of peoples kindness i just think you have many more options to. Make profits
It would be good if you give half your profits to charity I remember a guy knew who was doing community service and he didn't agree with the local antique dealers coming in daily to profit of. The poor I remember my father not being happy about his friend taking cheap furniture that might be50 and selling for 1000s the disadvantaged deserve a chance to not just buy crap.
You’re right. I’m Australian and was “technically” homeless living in a store room for one YEAR until last week. My rent went from $560 to $900 a WEEK. 90% of what I owned had to be dropped off at the Salvos In my heart I was hoping it would go to people that were struggling not people turning a fast dollar. It was quite ironic, people saying these charities can help you when all I did was contribute stock to their shelves for people that had homes and overpaid CEO’s
Yeh made it entertaining that’s true but seriously fail on good finds. Op shops can be hit and miss, lot of other avenues to find stuff though. I have garage full of stuff that I don’t have time to list like vintage Lego etc. Easy to find stuff, harder to sell.
No laws against filming/photographing in VIC; actually, anywhere in Australia. Much of the time, it’s people’s failure to mind their own business, and sometimes workers get on the defensive because they may assume the worst whenever they see someone filming on their premises.
Well, from what I have seen you're not being thrifting, you're being wasteful, buying things that not necessary, filling your home with things that discarded by others.... Tidy up dear!
Vinnie's salvos are not opportunity shop now they Google everything donated and price it to second hand prices but animal welfare shops are the go for bargains

Doesn’t the salvos putchoice pieces up on eBay as well now?
@@JuliaFrancisEmilyLouise Yes. Dodgy asf.

Their glassware is smashed if it's not sold in a certain time.

I’ll have to go in sometime and check
I'm from Melbourne & shop @ Savers either in Greensborough or Preston myself

Its fun and it involves walking and thinking, my entire life was one big opportunity. I have 60 prs of shoes as a kid 1 pair.

Those pizza plates are awesome 😎
I’m very familiar with those op shops. Very hit and miss. That savers is extremely expensive especially clothing.
They look good. The ones around my area in nsw are pretty dam crap. Rip off prices too. Especially the salvos.
I have that same Sonic t-shirt, had it since I was a kid :D

Do u guys live in box hill 😂

U need to become a volunteer worker at the stores to be able to grab the cream of donations

Why do they pull you up for filming is it against the law in Victoria
I honestly have no idea 🤷♂️ But there are definitely no laws against it. Maybe they think I’m a criminal or a terrorist 😜

There is no first amendment in Victoria, but you can still film in shops as long as you don't film staff
Savers has a no photo policy.
