Chromium provides a passive Cr2O3 oxide film which prevents the bulk metal matrix corroding. Technically 10% is required although most manufactures use at least 12% to prevent localised corrosion near welds etc
he also did the classic Eggheads contestant dumb elimination thing, where he said about the alcatraz, robben island was in SA ?? so it`s not that, colditz was the second world war ?? so it`s not that, the question was neither about geography or history, it was about Who, so he made himself look stupid trying to make himself look clever, just like those bozo`s on eggheads, who eliminate but cant tell you why they eliminate,Why? because they KNOW the Answer. so if you know it say it.
That was one of the easiest questions. Every cheap mechanical tool you pick up from Halfords says ' chromium Steel' on it. Jim has an excuse, he's only ever handled one tool. But Jezza, you should be ashamed. Get a job in Halfords.😂
1. Jeremy screwed up encouraging Jim to go with Cam's tentative and incorrect answer 2. chromium and chrome are not the same, so all the chrome talk was pointless unfortunately
Chrome is simply short for chromium, but sometimes short for chromium plated steel. Chrome and chromium ARE the same. Alum and aluminum are not the same; alum is a general word for a class of hydrated double aluminum salt. Sod is not sodium, a German is not germanium, Neptune is not neptunium. But chrome is chromium.
Five grown adults and no basic science education between them. I cringed to hear how "chrome rusts", "chrome was invented", "Chrome is an alloy". These celebs have never seen the periodic table. It's horrific how uneducated these public figures are.
lol, yeah they are thinking of chrome innit, and he was thinking about the film with burt lancaster, not the real Robert Stroud, South Africa, WW2 haha and all along he knew the answer. It always amazes me when people 100% know the answer but then go through this irrational process of eliminating the other three without telling you why to make themselves look intelligent, and actually making themselves look stupid.
Clarkston mispronounced his name twice two different ways. Gotta be deliberate. Thinking it is pronounced like the French for me is fair enough, but then calling him Muir at the end... I'd normally give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's Clarksome, so I'm not going to.
They did a bunch of celeb shows during lockdown, so no audience. The bit of laughter is the crew who I guess were told they could laugh just so they'd have some atmosphere.
Ughhh that stainless steel question I was screaming it 🤣
Chromium provides a passive Cr2O3 oxide film which prevents the bulk metal matrix corroding. Technically 10% is required although most manufactures use at least 12% to prevent localised corrosion near welds etc
What explains the Chrome rusting Jeremy mentioned then, was he mistaken about that?
@@occono3543 Yes!
the celebrity questions are sooooo much easier than the normal show
I mean yeh, otherwise nothing will be won for their respected charities.
They are absolutely not
Can you imagine all the stainless pans in your kitchen were 10% silver?I knew before the options came up.Poor Jim.
Same goes for me, even though I wasn’t too entirely sure that that would be the correct answer.
I was 100% sure
No you didn't
He used three lifelines on the question, not two.
And yet he still got it Wrong!
You either know it, or you don't.
I thought Jim was smarter than that.
😮
By using 3 he did use 2.
UVAVU
Imagine the cost of a 10% silver bridge or ship!
Stainless steel would be much more costly if it were 10% silver. But no bridges or ships are made of stainless steel.
Chrome does not rust, its the metal under the surface.
4:15 *Birdman of Alcatraz Robert Stroud played in the Movie of the same name by Burt **_the shirt_** Lancaster !*

It's true that all Sheffielders know the composition of stainless steel
Along with the iron and chromium, theres also nickel, molybdenum and carbon.
That was one of the easiest questions. Every cheap mechanical tool you pick up from Halfords says ' chromium Steel' on it.
Jim has an excuse, he's only ever handled one tool.
But Jezza, you should be ashamed.
Get a job in Halfords.😂
In fairness the only tools Jezza has used are hammers
Invite me, I will play for charity
Silver costs about £750/kg, 10% silver would add about £30 to a set of stainless steel cutlery.
Never heard if Simon Bolivar?
That was epic!
Title is a lie, he used 3 lifelines not 2 lol
Which means he did use 2, and also 1...
Aha, what a player, doubts , doubts and doubts , he tried 😂😂😂
Watching from the USA. Is WWTBAM still in production and if so is Clarkson still hosting? Thx
yes, it's on a sunday evening at 8pm GMT on ITV and still hosted by Clarkson
Isn't that Vic Reeves?
that's his stage name yes
He no longer uses the stage name Vic Reeves anymore, you can find interviews about it
Why did Clarkson Say "....the Angel Falls..." Which I'm guessing was a question about Venezuela? Was that edited out?
From a previous contestant.
@@steelmagnolia666 AH! right, thanks mate.
How can it be silver? How expensive is that.
Easy answer
1. Jeremy screwed up encouraging Jim to go with Cam's tentative and incorrect answer
2. chromium and chrome are not the same, so all the chrome talk was pointless unfortunately
You are wrong, they mean the same thing.
3 lifelines wasted when he could work it out with logic
It's unfortunate that I think Jeremy influenced him to pick the wrong answer right at the end, he shouldn't have said anything like that
Five grown adults and no basic science education between them. I cringed to hear how "chrome rusts", "chrome was invented", "Chrome is an alloy". These celebs have never seen the periodic table. It's horrific how uneducated these public figures are.

Why would you say silver at the end...after everything they went through...
Anybody else thrown when he was called Jim?
*All of my Spanners (US Wrenches) are made of Chromium Steel and no rust after 50 Years !*
Weird how he's suddenly using his real name
It's not sudden, he's been using it all his life. He's just doing more stuff on TV that isn't Vic Reeves based.
What a bizarre reason to change from chromium to silver
What intelligence level?if stainless Steel was 10%silver it would cost thousands
Clarkston mispronounced his name twice two different ways. Gotta be deliberate. Thinking it is pronounced like the French for me is fair enough, but then calling him Muir at the end... I'd normally give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's Clarksome, so I'm not going to.
Why make a thing sooooo easy difficult?
Four grown adults don’t know stainless steel uses chromium 😬😬😬
Vic Reeves.
Jeremy manipulated him in the end
It wasn't intentional, if he wanted to manipulate him he would have done that when he used the ask the host lifeline.
yes chromium does not rust-the contestant knew more than the petrol head...
Jim who ?!
This is nonsense. Stainless steel is made of 100% *STAINLESS STEEL.* Durrrrr!
Is there an audience? or is that canned applause?
They did a bunch of celeb shows during lockdown, so no audience. The bit of laughter is the crew who I guess were told they could laugh just so they'd have some atmosphere.
It's also the reason there are 2 phone-a-friends.
This is from years ago during COVID lockdowns.
I’ve been binge watching old WWTBAM episodes with Chris Tarrant. This, by comparison, seems wooden and cheerless.
I think Clarkson is better. He seems genuinely pleased for people when they get a hefty win.
Clearly rigged! (In a good cause)
Have a shave Mr Moir
*He would look much younger !*
What a dolt. Chromium is what makes Stainless Steel somewhat ferrous.
What, no, iron is what makes it ferrous, Fe = Iron.
