If you want to make it sadder, the AI professor is actually dead too now. They needed to stay in the Area 0 Lab to survive, as the power of the crystals that the lab was literally made from was what was keeping them alive. In going to the future/past, they essentially sacrificed themselves to a somewhat-slow death in order to stop the human professor's plan. My little headcanon is that the professor's little speech before leaving was just to soften the blow to the kids, so they wouldn't know they would die.

I also like that the ending scene isn't just cheery celebration, they acknowledge that the whole ordeal was pretty hard on Arven with him finding out his neglectful parent wasn't so much neglectful as literally dead for 4 years. The group and their respective bike lizard walking with sad expressions before Nemona tries to cheer them up is a pretty good bit of story telling given what they just went through.

I think the original professor lied. I think it didn't give all memories to the AI and left a crucial yet painfull part out of the AI's memory. • @hamdepaf6686
      @hamdepaf6686 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Another thing to note is the AI saying "so I understand better than any, your mother/father truly loved you" basically admitting that they themselves love Arven.
I think that the reason the AI didn't tell Arven the truth earlier and went to the past/future is that they where scared, scared they could not replace the parent Arven lost and also scared of Arvens rejecting it. Basically they ran away.
Throughout the whole dialogue the AI avoids speaking to Arven directly and whenever it does, the game doesn't show it's eyes, something typically used in media to show people hiding their emotions.
I don't think the original professors where evil and the AI is basically mirroring a version of them that wasn't consumed by ambition, obsession over their dream and probably also grief of their lover abandoning the dream they probably shared.
The difference between the games is probably what the professors choose to focus on, past or future, something either professor is more personally invested in, leaving the other with a more neutral view of the situation, eventually realising how much this obsession is consuming them, eventually making them walk out on the project.

  • @mewdreamer

I remember seeing some fan art about Arven's relationship with the professors, so I thought that effectively spoiled them as the twist villains of the games. But then I got to Area Zero and found out about the AI Professor. I was so happy that I didn't learn the truth ahead of time and I was able to experience the this storyline relatively spoiler free. Finding out that the professor was dead this whole time was such a brutal twist, especially for poor Arven. While the real Professors might not have been villains exactly, the fact that they went so far to protect the time machine gave me the impression that they were completely blinded by their obsession with the past/future. Nothing and no one else mattered to them by that point.
I didn't think that the ending felt incomplete, but I did think that they glossed over Arven's grief a bit too quickly afterwards. It's possible that the AI Professor could appear in the DLC or more likely that the time machine still has some effects on Paldea since I would assume we'd get some more Paradox Pokemon at least.

What I find interesting in Scarlet and Violet is the repeated motif of “Things you treasure”. What treasure to be exact? Riches? Achievements? Friends and Loved ones? Doesn’t matter, the story is centred within this one theme. To find and protect that which you treasure. A dream. But what happens when a dream goes too far and becomes an obsession?
Case in Point is Professor Sada and Turo. They want a world where ancient/future pokemon coexist with modern Pokémon. They do their work faithfully and achieve it. However what are the consequences of this? Paldea’s ecosystem being endangered, People being put at risk, Their son neglected and grew up with no parent. Their dream has achieved great things and has made the impossible possible. But it has reached a point where anomalies are now being created. The Professor acknowledged this and brushed it off as natural selection.
Is the AI our enemy? No, it’s our ally and sees the wrong in the Professor’s action.
Is the Paradise Protection Protocol our enemy? No, it’s just a program that can’t think on it’s own.
Is the Professor our enemy? No. They weren’t malevolent but was a danger.
Scarlet’s and Violet’s true enemy is none other than that which you treasure most. A dream. Everyone has dreams, whether they are within reach or not doesn’t matter. Our friends in game have dreams of their own. Nemona dreamed of a rival to match her. Penny dreamed of a school with no bullies for her friends. Arven dreamed of his parents coming home one day and be a parent for once. The enemy was not the Professor, but the dream that they held dear. The disk pokemon down in Area Zero could have amplified that obsession, but it could never have planted the seeds that grew into this.

Yes! Creative writing lessons drill into the importance of theme, but you almost never really see how theme plays into stories. Scarlet and Violet is a shining example of why theme is needed. The theme of treasure is such a great driving force behind everything and connect s everything beautifully. In this essay, I will. Sada/Turo losing sight of the treasure that is their son, Arven treasuring Mabostiff so much he pursures legends and myths to heal him, Penny and the Team Star bosses treasuring their bonds very much, Geeta's whole thing about the Champions being Paldea's greatest treasure, the gems of Area Zero and Terastal Phenomenon, and the player desperately seeking the "treasure" in so many different areas but realising in the end that the true treasure is the bonds they made with Arven, Nemona, Penny, Koraidon/Miraidon and their Pokémon along the way.
It's really inspiring me to put more effort into finding a theme in my writing, now that I have an example to guide me. This and Chicago.

The professor still knew about the destruction their plan would cause and went ahead anyway, dismissing it as being simply a part of life.

This is defiantly an ending that leaves you a bittersweet feeling. Fairly rare in a Pokemon Game that makes you feel this way, BW and SM are very closeto giving that same feeling but Scarlet and Violet really makes you feel this way, as if you feel like you might have failed. They brilliantly have you connect with the A.I. despite the little time you have with it, and to see it go makes you feel bad for not just the A.I. but also Arven as well.

What freaks me out a little is that the Paradise Protection Program uses the Koraidon/Miraidon that supposedly caused the death/killed the living professor. Like, we had to stare down a pokemon capable of causing death, and it even says "running away would put everyone else in danger!"
Like, it WOULD kill us, if we didn't have our own bike lizard. The fact that the Program uses that pokemon regardless of its crimes is interesting too.

What made me stay up at night thinking about is where the remains of the Professor are. Are they buried in the rubble near where we meet the AI professors as a sort of makeshift burial? Or were they just left somewhere to be eaten by the wildlife in Area Zero? Not to mention, they were still slightly alive before passing away so imagine them thinking about Arven and their regrets as they slowly succumbed to their injuries...

I've honestly thought about that too. And worse the idea of those last moments when it finally hits them, they have no one. They died out there where no one could reach them. Where no one even knew they were gone. The AI would keep things going, meaning it could have been months or even years before anyone even thought to look for them had the AI not had enough conscience to reach out for help. If they had thought of Arven, was it with regret? With fear if he'd be okay? With sorrow that he may never know what happened to them? Or was it just selfishness to the end, dying with the thought how they'd never get to see their dream realized because of this foolish bitter end?

There has never been a character that I have wanted to give a hug to more than Arven. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING about him is tragic. How do you think he got his culinary skills? He had to eat, and since his parents weren't present, he would have to teach himself. But like any kid, he wanted to see his parents, and when he did, his best friend, Mabosstiff was mortally wounded, possibly by Terapagos, but I don't know. He looks at Koraidon/Miraidon with disgust because in essence, they are a reminder of his parents work, and Mabosstiff's injury. He does the one thing he can do in a desperate attempt to save his best friend, make food. And through his love and care saves his only family he has left. But as if the game didn't kick him down enough still... his parent comes asking for his help. When he finally sees them, it's not even them. It's just a robot wearing their face. But this shadow of his parent expresses thier pride in him, before being overtaken.
GOD, man, let me give Arven a hug! He's suffered enough! At least let him meet N or Guzma so they can tell him everything will be alright!

I’m curious as to whether the opposite version Professor appears alive and well in the DLC (Turo in Scarlet/Sada in Violet), perhaps as part of an expedition team alongside Nemona’s parents, who are also strangely absent in the base game… 🤷🏻‍♂️
Ooh, and imagine if Heath is revealed as Penny’s ancestor! Now, _that’d_ be an interesting way to include all three of the player’s friends and classmates. 🤔
The only other thing that comes to mind is that Raifort could be the one to set the player on-course (pun not intended), and is revealed as a colleague of one or both professors, which could make her Arven’s legal guardian in their absence… well, other than his good boi Mabosstiff, of course. 🐾

This battle instantly became my favorite final boss of the whole series, and one of my favorite final bosses of all time.
I really wanted the Professor to be evil. What I got is even better.
The orignal professor is arguably evil and is clearly the antagonist... but they're long dead. And what we're fighting against is what they left behind. I LOVE that.
And then we have the AI twisting the trope of Evil AI Replacing Character by being the good guy while the original professor's was the bad guy.
And being able to befriend the AI after being suspicious of the professo for all this time felt nice.
And another trope I like is characters having to fight against their friends against their will, but I usually find it unsatisfying when the situation is resolved by the possessed / controlled character regaining control of themselves only through their own will and / or the power of friendship.
But here, the AI is fighting us against their will... but they truly are powerless against their programming. There's no easy way out, we have to fight and beat them.
And the battle itself is really cinematic.
The AI using the time machine just before the battle to assemble their team, the Master Ball finishing the capture in the AI's hand, the AI towering above us and casually drooping Master Ball after Master Ball.
And the music is so good.
And mechanically, it's a very fun and unique challenge to fight all those strange Pokémon whose typing you don't know yet.
And the scripted legendary battle right after really cool.
I'm a little obsessed with final bosses in video game, and I love to imagine how I would've personally changed a villain or a final boss to make it better. But here, I struggle to find anything to improve.
This final battle really surpassed my expectations, and my expectations for final bosses are always really high.
TL;DR: I really really love this final boss.

The universal theme of SV, the schools, and Paldea at large is to grow and find your treasure. The main 3 storylines have great answers: Victory Road, Pokemon. Titans, pets. Starfall, friends.
The final story is the antithesis. The professor grew up and attended the school same as us. On their treasure hunt, they stumbled upon the works/documentation of Area Zero. Yet their story detours into the bad end. The treasure became an obsession, and it detracted from their life. Alienating their fellow researchers (only capable of working with a robot clone), their once classmates, and even their son. It is a word of warning to not be so caught up in whatever glitters that you lose all the wealth you had before.
    Side note:
This is echoed in the ruins that dot Paldea too. The old kingdom, once prosperous, threw it away in pursuit of feeding their avarice, resulting in the Ruinious pokemon. I just love the fact that the region based on Spain has undergone great lengths to stress that while we are born entitled to seek our treasures, blind greed for fame and fortune is destructive.

I’ve never really cared for Pokémon plots before this and PLA. I’m definitely glad I avoided spoilers for Area Zero. The buildup to the reveal was so well done and I definitely wasn’t expecting the professor to have been killed by one of the Paradox pokemon. And the AI being forced to stop you from shutting down the Time Machine made a really cool fight.
I can’t tell you how bad I felt for Arven once he realized his only parent was dead and that he never really had a chance to have a parental relationship with them. And that his only family was Mabosstiff. The fact a Pokémon story made me feel something is something I never thought I would say. (Not counting the Mystery Dungeon games. Those have really good plots as well.) While SCVI are extremely glitchy games, the story they tell makes up for it for me. I do hope the DLC helps explain the events that led up to the creation of the Time Machine and what the Disk Pokemon is and how the professors became so intrigued with time travel that they were willing to risk Paldea’s safety and their own lives.

I hope we will see a continuation of the professor's story in the DLC. They made a point of showing them taking the Scarlet/Violet book with them into the past/present respectively. They even went so far as to alter the title screen in the post game to show that the book is no longer on the desk.
If I remember the story correctly, they also never specifically say that Sada/Turo invented the time machine, just that they were working on it, a detail that always stuck out to me. It's interesting to think that the book was discovered by someone else in the past/future, creating a time loop where that person creates the time machine and goes to area zero, where Sada/Turo find and repair it, only to eventually have the machine shut down by their departure and the book returned to the past/future with them once again.
We saw this kind of thing hinted at in Pokemon Legends Arceus with the subway boss from Black and White ending up in Hisui, so I'm interested to see where GameFreak goes with their time travelling trend.
    Thanks for the great video!

Another big hint to the professor being a robot is actually in their animation. When leaving an animated character idle it’s important for them to have some kind of movement (bobbing shoulders, slight swaying, etc.) to suggest some kind of life to the character. The professor actually lacks this idle breathing animation while everyone else still has it. It’s a neat little detail because it’s something you won’t even notice is there but you do notice when it’s missing and it automatically sets off alarm bells.

There definitely seems to be quite a bit unresolved about this chapter like you said. One thing that's particularly been bothering me is the question of what happens to Ai Sada once they enter the machine? It's been implied that the machine seen might not be a time machine but rather something that brings imagination to life. So was Ai Sada actually taken somewhere in the past or did something else happen to her when they entered the machine?

    • @blast0r
      @blast0r ปีที่แล้ว

I've been wondering about the time machine myself. I'm not sure where you're getting the imagination thing, but that Dendra is the only character that has a Violet Pokemon, or that the Time Machine seems powered on post game (an oversight?), or that the other professor is suggested to have left - where did they go?
That there's two different academies on Paldea - one for each version - is that not odd?
Also - According to Raifort's lessons - Area Zero was explored long before Sada even began work.

I adore the dialogue in the game while the text is shifting from AI Turo/Sada to the Paradise Protection Protocol during the last battle. (It says something along the lines of “AI Turo/Sada no longer wants to fight!”) also the fact that the AI professors would both likely die brutally within the future or the past (many of the Pokémon from those places that we’ve seen are incredibly violent, and there still may be more undocumented pokemon from that era, also both of them would most likely run out of whatever it is that’s powering them)

    • @BJGvideos
      @BJGvideos ปีที่แล้ว

Even the brutal dragon that killed the original professor doesn't attack the AI. It's possible that they sense that the AI isn't a living being so they don't see this person as a threat.
Also what's powering them is the existence of the crystals in Area Zero and there's no reason to assume that those won't be there in either timeline, unless Sada went SO far back that it predated whatever made the crater to begin with.

I understood the ai professor differently 🤔. I understood that the ai was made to run the time machine; as in it was part of it. The professor copied their mind and after their death the ai (which has a copy of the professors mind) realized how dangerous it all was. The Ai was running off the professors knowledge until the security system activated which was a simple goal(protect time machine) related ai behavior written by the original professor before they saw how dangerous it all was...but that's just how I interpreted it 😅

I smiled at this twist. That explained why there was no other footage of Sada and Turo after their reveal. And the Pokémon Professor be the villain of this game?! Genius! What a beautiful subversion and make the typical Pokémon Professor archetype actually be a mad scientist. They've never spun on that before. All Professors have been positive mentors before this and some are more well rounded characters than others. But for the writers of Gen 9 to take this expectations of the Professor that we have grown too complacent in and shatter it... Wow! Commendations across the board! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Oo, hoping for an evil champion next! Think about it, a hero figure for the player and the region, like Leon, lauded as this great person and figure, and then he turns out to not be the great person they all thought. Juicy! 😋
