Tx very much for this episode Mr Kiff 🙏 Great to learn about Richard & his experiences on the island and noted that both times you were offered a lift by a woman on her own! Don't think there will be too many women stopping to pick up big boned men in SA 🤣 Thanks for sharing, you've given us some great insights over the years....Sitting waiting to see which way our government is gonna go here in SA (Cape Town). My wife & I subscribed to your channel years ago & watch all your updates. We've been to Mauritius many many times (even got married on the beach there) .... one day I'm gonna grow a pair of balls and come over permanently... I am however a bit cautious as it appears that the extra savings in tax etc seems to be off-set by the extra cost of living! It's extremely hot there sometimes & I'm also a little larger around the mid section than I should be, so i run a bit hot ( fat is a great insulator & extra fat is like walking around with a wet-suit on permanently 😂)
Would love to know if you just rent permanently or if you have purchased residential property there ( purchasing seems to be very complex & dynamic with lots of moving parts & smoke & mirrors). Thanks again for sharing all-things Mauritius & please keep the Kiffness going

Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. Glad you enjoyed the episode. I always say that Mauritius is not for everyone, but that being said, if you adjust to the Mauritian way of living (not expat) you'll find it can be considerably cheaper. In the end, moving countries will always cost money. 1. the practical costs of moving and setting up 2. living and making mistakes, shopping in the wrong places etc etc. I wish you well on your decision making journey.

Quick one on purchasing property - your minimum requirement will be USD 375,000 in order to qualify for residency. You can buy cheaper in a G+2 option (apartments) but you won't get residency. I always advise to rent first and get to know the island before making any decisions

Looks they’ll extend the tram to the south, north and west coast as well. It should less of a hassle to get around

Funny to see common scenes in Quatre Bornes highlighted as special events.

From Australia. You popped up in my feed, I suppose because I have been researching Mauritius, and I love your honest and authentic nature and the real daily experience.
I was last in Mauritius 30 years ago and have been to a few conferences at hotels in Beau Champ and the I'll aux Cerf area.
I would appreciate your help on where you think I should buy. Im single and coming to retire, yet all the areas that get promoted seem to be on the west coast. Is there any reason why not much is said about living on the east coast? Weather perhaps?
I have never been much of a nightclub or pub person, but I love the beach life, street food and five star, Im active, like exploring, going for drives and meeting different people. I like the look of Anahita Beau Champ but worried that maybe there are too few people there.
I was thinking of basing myself there and if I drove north and was too lazy to drive back I could just overnight somewhere.
Would love your help and suggestions.

Hey, thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. I think your question is rather tough to answer but I will give it a bash. Most expats live in the West or in the North which is why those areas get promoted. Anahita is amazing, as is Azuri. You should definitely look into those developments. They have different lifestyles to offer you but both are amazing. Driving north from either of those places is not terribly far, so i wouldn't worry about having to overnight. If you do consume alcohol, i would make use of taxi services. they are quite reliable and affordable. If you'd like to set up some time to chat, I do offer a paid consultation of 1 hour. my email is marcmaurel@gmail.com

Do you speak Creole after 16 years in teh country?

I speak some Creole, but I haven't been here for 16 years yet ;-) It's difficult to learn because its not easy to find a teacher. French a lot easier to learn though. We keep trying.
