- Found this super sweet ugly duckling of a YAMAHA golf cart at my local scrap yard. Naturally I drug it home and started dumping money into it

I'm the handyman at a sporting campground and we started with one golf cart similar to that one. I rebuilt the starter, motor, and replaced the brakes. The owner was so happy, she bought 6 more similar Yamaha golf carts for me to fix up. They were all junks just like yours. I had to buy that tool, too. Replaced wire harnesses, filters, pistons, crankshafts, push rods, you name it. The cleaning ladies love them, they put their clean bedding and vacuum cleaners and cleaning buckets on the back and away they would go. It was so much fun running them that I might take up golf just to drive one every day.
My husband just saw that 3/8 and said he wanted one. Thank you for helping me with my Christmas shopping!
As a long time golf cart mechanic you'll regret taking off that governor. You can adjust it to get a few more mph out of it but until you lift it and put larger tires on it its not going to be a rocket. Check the valve adjustment while your doing a tune up too.
I’m not planning on lifting or anything, I just want it to go faster
What happens when you take the governor off?
IDK why I love these junkyard-fixeruper video's so much, but I do!, lol, thanks for sharing.
I've got to say this is one of the channels that are climbing my favorite channels list pretty quick.
Use it in the snow ❄️ to get your projects done before nighttime if you want to try it you will like it 🪙🪙🪙
Love the stuff you drag home Neighbor. Best thing is you fix it up and get it working to use it around the house.
I do the same to remove those clutches , I use the undersized bolt like you did but I found a bolt that fit the threads for the puller... I ended up welding them together and now have them in my box of tricks! I've made a few now lol
Good work ethic and I wish you every success, it's so nice to see a hard working man, I wish I had the energy now but I'm old and a little tired but I enjoy your videos and hope my Grandson works as hard as you when He's old enough!! Well done from over the pond!!
Thank you!
Matt slept for a week straight after this project. Don't let the occasional TH-cam burst of energy fool you.
this was the cart of my youth, my 13 yo self at the time did about everything you could to make this one faster. if you havent messed with it since youll find even with the limiter removed its still not a road burner and at which point it is the motors way over revved. biggest improvement is a full size lawnmower tire will fit no problem on the back gets much better traction and increases the ratio a bit. then just crank the governor screw all the way in. that actually starts pretty normal they were always finicky till moving. A carb stud pulled out of the head over the years, and my clutch failed too, but other than that it was a awesome cart for a million miles.

Rattle can paint job coming right up
You have such great stuff - living my dream life - your knowledge about so many things is amazing 👍
👍👍👍👍Famous last words " There's a special puller bolt you're supposed to buy that I was too cheap to buy"..., so lets see if we can get it off..... When it comes to personal tools... a 3/8's swivel is the cat's ass and people who don't own a piece of rebar 1 inch x 4 feet long with a battered / flattened end....don't know how to have fun.
After viewing the video most people said to themselves-------
" That's me!
"Been there..., "Did that...
So what's the problem..? I don't see any problem..
You work with what you got... "And if that fails.....
Why buy something if you only need it once? …, I bet that piece of rebar has a thousand stories to tell how.., how handy it is and how it saved the day a thousand times over.. I know .. I own a piece of rebar that is 5 ft long, I use it to dig post holes, demolition, chip ice, remove tree stumps and what ever else besides prying.. Keep it real brother, don't change a thing, good honest vids!
Bottom line.., They are the cheap bastids.. the bolt should have been included with the clutch assembly.
I had one years ago. I took that super quiet but restrictive muffler off and fabbed a downpipe out of rigid conduit and a regular mower muffler. It needs some backpressure to run right but it wakes the thing up torque wise. We pulled a large garden dump trailer as full as would stay put with it and it would spin the tires taking off. Good old cart. I wish I still had it.
I pulled a cart with this one, did a lot better than I expected
Thanks for the share Matt. Love the guy with the ball.
You got a good one its a Yamaha G9, I work on golf carts for a living, you got a Comet clutch noisy but effective will work very nicely for you. Put the air box back on those engines are designed to run with a certain amount of air bet you have to run it with the choke almost closed. The tool is 35 bucks for the clutch, wrap it with a hammer sometimes they will pop. Brushes in the starter usually need replaced other than that they will run forever. That cart will last forever parts over the place ebay and the net. Nivel parts is a big one.
I ran the serial number it’s a Yamaha G2
DC. You warm the cockles of my heart seeing you being this back on this cold sat morning
Great find, you have inspired me to go to the local yard and find one for myself!! thanks
I’ve got the same cart. It’s a Yamaha G2. I found mine for $200 and I’ve put a bunch of money into it! Drive clutch an electric fuel pump and the high torque kit for the driven pulley. I’ve got an old video of it on TH-cam I’ll get an updated one up soon. They’re super fun project carts. I put super lug tractor tires on mine and it does some insane hill climbs now and goes thru a good foot of mud. These Yamahas are tanks.
Good ole Yamaha G2/G9. 285cc single cylinder 4 stroke. About 9.5 hp. Love em!
I have the same thing in my Tayor Dunn Industrial Truck. I was amazed how expensive the parts were
If it’s later model, it probably could use the valves being adjusted. Easy to do,and definitely a power increase. Kawasaki engines are good lasting. But most people don’t know about the adjustable rockers, until it’s too late, or problems with the starter and the major power loss. I’m figuring Matt, you probably already know about this. Just trying to help you out.
You have got great skills! Now I want to disassemble my new golf cart and recreate it. Got a refurbished one from SWFL Golf Carts and had to pay quiet an amount for it, but it easily one of the best ones I have ever used
All I could think when you tried the different pullers was, - all that is needed there is to thread in a short bolt to push on that undersize one that is already in the clutch...
I thought the same thing
that and shorten the headless bolt slightly
I have a flat punch bit that I hit the top of the puller shaft with a few short burst from the air chisel and, POP, it works like magic every time. As long as there is a good mount of pulling force, it works perfectly every time.
Lol 19:06 Was that a very quiet MeatBall I just saw? Lol A little Monster!! Maybe a Slobber Monster! I really like him.. I think i might get a dog like him some day!
My friend bought a used EzGo gas cart. The oil filter was located such, that it was impossible to get off! Only a tiny amount of room to swing the ratchet wrench.
Shoulda bought a yamaha! Thanks for watching!!
Hey Matt can you put that golf cart or your tracker on top of the lowboy trailer above the fifth wheel so when you take christine you instead of the mud maybe buy some agressive tires to drive around your Pike peak show I sent you about rusteloum hammerite green paint to make it look sharp
Muy buen arreglo de tu carrito de golf y muy, muy barato,.-
I’d suggest getting everything tightened up and heating the pulley to expand it - then tighten it a bit more....and then give the centre bolt on the puller a good sharp cuff with a hammer. The shock usually jars them loose.
Tim from Canada my suggestion would’ve been when you had the gas tank out I would’ve cleaned it up a bit and maybe spray-painted it and if you take the parts out I will maybe clean them up and spray paint them different colours just so it looks different
Good video. I can't find a second video on the golf cart. Did you make one or give up on it?
17:05 "Oh look a dime!" lmao the junkyard paid YOU to take it away 😂
What a great opening 😂😂😂
Watching all the videos on the channel and this is the first time I've ever heard Matt cuss.
Some things deserve it
great find.
Great find and Fix, thanks for the Video.
with all your equipment you could build your own PAR 3 practice hole, complete with tree and other stuff as hazards.
Looks like an excellent candidate for a Rust-Oleum white paint job
I’m thinking of using the left over red from the dump truck on it!
There's a throttle control on these you see today. It should be the same system on this one but you can take a stick and pry it wide open or take a piece of string and tie it where it holds it wide open but the only problem with that is you only have 2 speeds and that's stop and haul ass. There's not much in between.
You need a set of rims and ag tires
Old snowmobile trick....take the bolt out of the clutch...then fire up the motor....now CAREFULLY use a 2 x 4(like a prybar) to push (sideways pressure) against the clutch. After a few seconds of pretty heavy pressure it should pop off
love your work Matt watching from queensland Australia
Love your videos. Informative and no bulls#&t.
You sure are a glutton for punishment but your enthusiasm exceeds all your obstacles. Continue on
Nice job - thank you for the videos!
Great choice on the old bolt, i got screwed once by using a new bolt.🤣
About the puller bolt, wouldn’t your cut off bolt and the old pulley bolt on top of it have done the same thing?
Buggies gone wild is a good forum for golf cart repairs and modifications.
Chinesium haha love that word. We all want to support the local economy we just can't afford it and sometimes we just have no choice
nope, if it ain't 'murican, I don't need it!
@brian ford
You must not need much then.
Did you oil the threads on your puller? Should do that with each use then clean up excess oil when done
I don't see part 2. Did you blow the engine trying to get more speed?
It sure is beautiful in your neighborhood.
Hey Matt what did you do with the old clutch you took off the golf cart if you don't want it how much would you take for it
Same set up as a snow mobile. Old snojets even had the starter gen .
Great find. Amazing what people junk.
True story...
I especially liked when you broke the shive for the generator belt.
strangest way to remove clutch 1 tip cart on side 2 fill bolt hole with water part way up threads 3 find a bolt to fit threads and crank it in. works for snowmobiles too
Brilliant! Would that work to remove my in-laws, too?
Should have put some hose clamps on that new fuel line! Haha!
You have found the neatest things lately,& not have a lot of money in!
I like em cheap!
Was wondering, could you have just put the rod you made in the bolt hole and then threaded either of the bolts in to push off the clutch?
Theoretically but the bolt that was in it originally wouldn’t work and I didn’t have the correct metric bolt here
I love how you just finally caved and bought the puller! LOL
Wish my dump would sell items but once something goes in there they keep it and bury it.
11:22, Appears you forgot about the other 2 starter/generator Mounting bolts to tighten...?
I see that cub cadet what is the model you should make a video of it
Think there’s a 106 in This video... I have a ton of Cubs
@@DieselCreek cool. Cub cadet 169 and 800’s are worth a lot of money and very rare
@@colewatson3630 the 169s usually seem to fetch a good dollar but I’ve actually seen the 800s go pretty cheap
@@DieselCreek they made only 4,005 169’s and 2,345 800’s I like to collect garden tractors myself
Is it still alive? Have you done more with it? I'd like to see it run without the governor...
“Nothing can go wrong” ...failure is always an option!!!
That’s true! Thanks for watching!!!
Maxim 70: Failure is not an option. It is mandatory. The option is whether or not to let failure be the last thing you do.
That’s a cool dritbike in the background still have it brother
Grammars Good ol' Chineseyum from da Amazonioum😎👍👍
Good pick
Could you not have slipped a rod into the shaft and just added a bolt to the end and tightened it to force the rod deeper and release the pulley? I am seriously asking, as I think it should work. Thoughts?
I really was rooting for ya when you go out the pullers but when you said "so I had to order this part" I just laughed laughed. At least you've got it now
Believe me I tried like hell... there was a bunch of attempts not even on camera lol
Sometimes it’s better in the long run to simply buy the right tool for the job to begin with. I’ve been working on mechanical things all my life, and that important lesson was learned a lot of years ago. And BTW, watch for coil failure on those. The engine will quit running or refuse to start when it’s hot. Had a customer bring me one of those and he swore it had a valve problem because if you shut off and tried to start it again while it was hot, it wouldn’t run. Turned out that after confirming nearly identical compression reading both hot and cold ( no valve issues ), also confirming no spark when hot, replaced the coil and all was well. Turns out that is common failure mode on the coils in those engines. And yes, it’s a PITA to change coils on those.
The entrance was hilarious
Now you can do golf cart WHEELIES. LOL.
I love your channel, but I really want the part 2 to this video. Keep up the good work!
Is there a part 2 to this?
Junkyard golf cart rescue. 😀
And the roadside find king is born.
To bad we can't buy stuff like that from the dump around here
Hose clamps man. The fuel will swell the rubber in time and iui t will leak again
thanks ive since added them. thanks for watching!
I was cringing at that, "I got some new fuel line and..." Me shouting at the screen: WTF are you doing man, HOSE CLAMPS, HOSE CLAMPS DUDE, hell just "go for a rip... eh" why don't you just light a dart and watch it burn... Worse use of a funnell as well son!!!'😱😱😱😱
OK my OCD is kicking in... And breath in the good and out with the bad, in....out...
Runs good - don't look to hot - what state of you from
Western PA
You are very talented. How about clamps on fuel hose
Awesome find !!
Looks like you went ahead and put a new starter belt on.
so im sure this is maybe a lil late, and i dont think im the only one who would have thought of this... but i would have used that cut off bolt you stuck down there and used a same thread but shorter to stick in the threads on the end to pull the pulley... or the stock one... because i would have wanted to buy the tool if i was only gunna use it once...
Matt. Why didn’t you put clamps on the fuel hose?
That dewalt ur using must be fairly new I see it still has bits still clicked in it lol my grandkids lose those the 1st day
Whats the story on the electric bike seen in the opening shot?
Great video bro and a neat find. I see it even came with air conditioning. Stay safe
Cool golf carts new a way outta price. But a used one can be the perfect thing.
I never got one because they were too Much, this one was reasonable
No clamps on the fuel line? I always clamp a fuel line.
Was there ever a part 2?
You should have tried the water and teflon trick for the clutch!
With that much trouble you should change that other belt too! Sometimes it’s not best to cut corners brother!
Looked new to me when it went back on. I think it was changed.
What's a keyway? About a gram or two..😀
Mu OCD was killing me looking at that crud on the gas tank lol...
Bought me a set of Gearwrench wobble sockets because of your videos
Worth every dime
lmao i can't believe i missed this video...slap a backhoe on it!!!!
That's perfect for a small town like that.
What brand drive clutch did you use? How much was it?
