    I am a South African (SA) and I have taken an interest in atheism, which I didn't know exists. my own family treats me like somehow I am doing something wrong by not believing in the bible or its nonsense, which I have been force feed into believing from childhood and I remember that at some point in my life, I use to take church serious for the sake of making my mother proud since she believes heavily on these fables along with some relatives not everybody thou. almost plus or minus 22 years of my life not once have I ever felt this power that these people speak of, when they pray for me I don't feel jack but it was weird with people around me claiming that they've been saved to find them doing the exact opposite of being saved a few days later 😂, even my own family, as a child I've always known that things don't poof out of thin air cause if they did, that would still happen now and I've always known we were apes some how but as a child I never understood how but as I matured and gained knowledge of evolution, life made way more sense and thanks to the education system and AronRa I'm sure ill never believe in majestic stuff, but here in SA people REALLY value spiritual superstitions, with sangomas ( witch doctors ) somehow knowing the unknowable, predicting peoples life-threatening experiences accordingly and using muthi and witches using muthi are said to be able to cause every disease and misfortune under the sun but this use of medicine to achieve its objectives, has some form of spiritual activities tied to it, and I've heard numerous people saying it works. never did for me thou. As soon as they find me watching AronRa they all just get angry and aggravated, shouting saying i must switch Aron off, living with superstition people is fuckin irritating.

      Growing up, I saw faults in science, too. How can a pair of covalent electrons orbit around a nucleus when they are stuck in the middle between two nuclei? What about big molecules like sugar? Same thing with the speed of light, how can the universe be 76 billion light years across if the universe is only 14 billion years old, it'd have to go faster than the speed of light.
      But with science, unlike religion, there was always a hint that reality is just a bit too hard for your 6th grade brain to understand.
      The quantum electron orbital wave function exists, we just can't teach it until you understand multi variable calculus, differential equations, etc.
      With religion, there are no answers when you probe deeper.

    "Do believers just believe without a thought? Have they never examined these stories to realize irreconcilable inconsistencies with their interpretations?"
    Genesis Apologetics didn't put this video together by accident. The "myths" it's trying to "debunk" are basically what any reasonable person, raised in the echo chamber of young earth creationism, would notice immediately upon actually reading their Bible. Literally page 2 will have contradictions with page 1. This is trying to do damage control and paper over the plot holes using arguments that sound sophisticated enough for a believer to let their guard down and keep the faith.
    A lot of it is in the genre of "who do you believe, me or your lying eyes?". But for people stuck in a totalitarian system of thought like YEC, sometimes they choose the obvious liar because it's very uncomfortable and possibly complicated to leave it behind.

      Our generation has been given event predicted by the Bible (Old Testament). It says that after the Jews were judged for worshipping other gods by God, they would be called back from the world wide dispersion back to the Promised Land. They would make Jerusalem their capital again; make the barren land (forced to take a sabbath by God) fertile again; have trees planted on the hills again; and even talk/use Hebrew again. All the prophecies concerning what would happen to the Jews if they turned away from God and worshipped other gods were fulfilled: death, defeat, enslavement; destruction of Jerusalem; expelled from the Promised Land; world wide dispersion; world wide hatred and despise. All these prophesied events have happened EXACTLY as the 3,000 year old Biblical text said it would happen. In the last 80 years from the ashes of the Holocaust, Israel became a nation; the Jews from all over the Earth came back to the Promise Land; Jerusalem became the capital again; fertile farms fill the land; and even the Hebrew language is used in Israel again.
      ===
      This proves that the God of the Bible is real/exists and is today involved in human history. The nation of Israel is the proof that the Bible is supernatural and real.

      ----
      The Biblical prophecies are REAL ACTUAL Prophecies. The Bible was ridiculed and power Islamic nations made sure they could never be fulfilled. But they have been. It proves the Bible is supernatural and the God of the Bible exists and affect events TODAY.
      ----
      Your time frame requirement for prophecy is totally bogus and dishonest and illogical and down right stupid/dumb.
      ----
      These prophecies concerning Israel have happened in our life times. It is absolute proof the Bible is true and the God of the Bible exists. Having this proof despite all of Islam over the centuries making sure it would NEVER happen proves that God is greater all nations Earth put together.
      ====
      You need to re-evaluate all "inconsistencies' in light of this proof of God of the Bibles existence. In the New Testament "inconsistencies" are proof of eyewitness testimony accounts. In any crime scene witnessed by multiple people, their accounts differ slightly. They are inconsistent with each other. So it the conclusion then obviously, the event never happened. No the conclusion is the inconsistencies prove that they were actual human witnesses to the event.

      And by the way, it's kind of disgusting how you look at jews as pawns in your prophesies and pretty much say that they deserved all the horrible shit that happened to them for not being godly enough. That whole how the tiger got its stripes fable is applicable in another place in genesis.
    The ancient people who wrote these stories actually did know something about animal husbandry. They knew how to butcher animals and they knew what their bones and skeletons looked like. They knew that many large mammals had a penile bone, or baculum, that helped them have and maintain an erection for mating. And they knew that humans did not. The baculum looks a lot like a rib bone. And ancient Hebrew had no word for baculum.
    They also knew what their male genitalia looked like. They knew that there was a scar-like line from the head of the penis, or glans, right down around the scrotum, across the perineum (or taint) to the anus.
    The people telling the creation story to each other explained all that with the removing the rib from the man (no baculum) and closing up that place (the scar-like line) and through refinement we have todays “How come man’s doesn’t have a baculum and has something that looks like a scar on his naughty bits” as the “Adams rib from the side” fable.

    The existence of hunter gatherer societies kind of contradicts the notion of agriculture being a punishment for the fall. The Garden of Eden seems more like a story of choices. The fundamental one is whether humans remain animals, blissfully unaware of their personal mortality, or if they recognize the frailty of their existence by empowering their sense of self, the ego.
    But the ego needs comfort si it invents god and invents its special place in "god's plan". Hey-presto! Religion.

    You know, the fact that Jesus taught almost exclusively in parables (according to the gospels anyway) really takes away from the idea that the accounts in the Torah that he referenced were literally true. The stories he referenced didn't need to be literally true for him to make the points he was trying to make when he referenced them - he was using them as analogies in the first place.
    The idea that Jesus referenced things written in the Torah means Jesus believed it was literally true really ignores Jesus's teaching style. I didn't even find that a convincing argument when I was a Christian.
    BTW, this is me granting them the gospels for the sake of argument here.

    What baffles me, possibly more than I wish, is how the Bible says that birds and fish were created on Day 5, but land animals on Day 6. ... As if birds aren't also land animals. They don't live in the sky, they live on the land, they just fly in the sky.
    While I'm at it, it doesn't really explain on what day of creation the birds that can't fly showed up, like penguins, emus, dodos, and kiwis. They're birds, but nobody is going to argue that they fly in the sky. So, were they created on Day 5 or Day 6?

    • @fordprefect5304
      @fordprefect5304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the bible is screwed up. Simple
      According to Genesis, in what order were the land animals, man, and women created? This “simple” question has two different answers. According to Genesis 1:24-27, God creates the land animals (vv. 24-25), and then man and woman (vv. 26-27). However, in Genesis 2:7, God creates man, and then in v. 19 creates animals, and in v. 22 creates woman. Thus, the commonly heard idea that Genesis 2 is an elaboration upon Genesis 1, filling in various details, does not work-the two accounts tell different stories.

      Essentially because the writers of the bible had no notion of taxonomy. They thought of animals in terms of what they do, rather than what they are. So it's "the flying things" and "the swimming things" and "the walking things" and "the creeping things". It was just very sloppy and generic language by people who saw animals the way a farmer does rather than a biologist.

    A funny thing with the NIV is that in gen 2:18 God says 'I'll make adam a partner', then says that God had already formed all the animals and later that no suitable helper could be found among them. Context is important when you are figuring out what stuff means, often times the previous verse can lend huge context to what you are reading....
    If God intended to create Adam a partner, then had him look through a bunch of animals for a partner, chances are that he created those animals after deciding to create Adam a partner.
