This is the thing, though. As sad as solitary confinement can be, being raised in a confined space doesn't mean 'scary world', per se. It just means things you didn't live with before can be overwhelming. What turns the outside world scary is if you take the aforementioned scenario, and add abuse or some type of negative stimulus when the confined space is exited. Then, you develop fear and anxiety through learning that you're only ever safe and comfortable when confined. With the first example, the bird may simply be curious and want to explore, once it realized it was being allowed out. Second example, the bird would need gentle and patient encouragement with a mix of patience and treats.

I wonder how she knows of all this neglect. Did his last owners confess they took crap care of him and taught him to be distrustful? Or does she make a lot of assumptions because she romanticizes the idea she rescued an animal from deplorable conditions?
@pippadawg7037 It’s likely the previous owners or someone casually told her a lot of stuff that had gone on in his old home, and she put the rest together from the signs (a too small cage, the "food bag" being full of mostly treats, the bird's behavior, etc). If you rescue animals regularly, or take care of a variety of a certain type of animal and have been doing so for many years, you are going to be far more knowledgeable than the typical judgemental pet owning internet rando who has appointed themselves "animal experts" on the same level of knowledgeability as vets and professional animal rescuers, because the internet rando genuinely believes that because they have one or two pets, or have owned a few pets over a length of several years, that's comparable to someone who dedicated eight years to become a vet (longer if they decide to pursue further education into specific fields such as surgical, or certain medical fields related to the nervous system, brain health, etc or if certain states require a residency, or internship, as well as how long it might take to study and prepare for a state's licensing exam if, depending on that state you intend to practice in, you are required to take an additional licensing exam alongside the official NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licensing Exam) a student of animal sciences has to take and pass in order to be licensed in North America) or someone who has been working/volunteering with professional Animal advocacy and rescue groups that aren't PETA for a decade or longer. Just like with people who are parents to actual children, just because you are a pet parent doesn't automatically mean you know what you're doing (or have any right to dictate how others should do it), and it also doesn't mean you're a "good" pet parent just because you believe you are. Pet parents just have the luxury of never having their adult child tell them "Actually no, you were a shitty parent. You completely fucked up my development as child because you were stubbornly married to the idea that emotional abuse and gaslighting were valid forms of "Tough Love" that I needed to force me to fall into line, that slapping/spanking me was a good form of punishment for 'not listening to you', that constantly ignoring and overstepping my boundaries or just not allowing me to have boundaries and privacy was completely fine because you're the parent, and have sufficiently fucked up all my relationships with others growing up, and left me with a multitude of baggage, trauma and mental anguish that I will likely never untangle because you decided you were "too proud" to seek professional help for your own fucked up childhood, instead taking your own childhood trauma out on me because that's what your parents did to you and their parents did to them and you were convinced it was normal because that's just how things were", and never been confronted on how much they fucked up their furbabies/feathered babies because animals can't talk.

Poor sweet baby. The mistreatment of animals is one of the most horrific things. Thank you for giving him the beautiful life he so very deeply deserves
@@neepers Parrots may be very smart but in the end they’re no different from a toddler/preschool/elementary student. Being free does not have to mean dying a horrific death to a hawk in the wild or watching your babies be eaten by snakes or getting shot by hunters, or starving to death, or dying to dehydration, or dying to deforestation. Being free is being safe, loved, and happy. Which birds easily obtain in captivity with PROPER care. Unfortunately most don’t know how to properly care for them. Not only is that freedom but also living. In the wild they have to survive, not live, and nor do they thrive as prey animals in the wild.
Poor thing. 39 years of God knows what. Seeing what people do to animals makes my soul ache. Thank you for being the kind, loving person you are. Lots of love to you both. 💜
I'm sure he probably behaved really well on camera and we didn't see everything that went on off camera but this is a _very_ friendly parrot for not being "very trusting of people". What a good boy!
I have a yn amazon myself and they're notoriously moody (yellow napes and double yellows for sure). I literally just forwarded this at 2am to another bird friend I know from the rescue I volunteer at and said this is the friendliest Amazon I've seen and he's taken to healthy food amazingly fast (usually takes months for a bird who has never done fresh food to convert). Plus he was stepping up multiple times on her forearm. The food, despite being 99% treats wasn't mostly sunflower or safflower, which cheap food is. The previous owner was buying very expensive food (looks possibly like Volkman) so I'm wondering about the sob story of him being locked up for 39 years. Locked up birds are often afraid to come out and Poncho is looking very comfortable being out. Not to mention being very active for 39 and locked up - Amazons are notoriously lazy and a cage bound bird would become very lazy. He's also incredibly active and fearless for a bird who was locked up. His feathers look great and there aren't bars on his feathers to indicate poor diet and he looks a very healthy weight. As you said it could be editing but the Internet has made me suspicious of everything including animal rescue stories sadly.
@@Birdnerd1968 I was wondering why he wasn’t plucking out feathers due to stress. Griffey was an extreme case, but it took forever to get him out and he never stopped going at his feathers.
We had a cockatiel growing up that we had to rehome because we found out my dad was mean to it whenever we weren’t home. He even joked about BBQing him. We rehomed him to a retirement home where he lived a few years with his mate but then passed away. He was so sweet and it broke my heart to give him away, but we knew it was for the best. I don’t have birds but have dogs and strictly the rescues that others don’t want; missing leg, only 50% fur, behavior issues etc. Watching your videos helps heal part of my heart. RIP Billy ❤❤❤
That’s so cool that you rescued Poncho. People run out & buy Parrots thinking they’re cute & will just talk without being taught & then they get abandoned or left in cages. It’s very sad. Parrots are a lot of work & it’s obvious that he’s beginning to trust you. ❤
Finally, Pancho will know what love, freedom and good food is, he'll live even longer because of this. LIVING his best life now, BRAVO Pancho, you made it!!
@greenbirdbrigade Thank You for all that you do for all of your rescue birds. He's such a sweet boy even after all these years of confinement. How could anyone do such a thing. A low life. So happy that Poncho has someone who cares.❤
It’s maddening to me how many people think, “Oh, isn’t that a cute parrot (or any animal for that matter), I think I’ll get one!”, but then realize they made a mistake and either abuse, neglect, mishandle it, never give it any attention or love, etc., instead of giving it to someone who will love it for forever!!! I have a 24 year old Jenday Conure, Sugar Bear, and he’s the love of my life! My heart hurts when I hear stories like this, but people like you are absolute rock stars in my book!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Birds, fish and "pocket pets" all get the short end of the stick. Not enough regulations and plenty of misinformation from years of pet stores and companies pushing products that have been proven unsuitable. Food that's unhealthy at best and poison at worst. Toys that are dangerous. Enclosures that are too small. It's so upsetting.
Yes, I've seen what happens with turtles. They get sold on the streets for $10 and kids play with them like toys. Parents don't even notice when they get their carapaces cracked. They don't know how to care for them and don't want to spend money on an aquarium, so the little turtle lives a short miserable life in the bin they sold. It's horrific. I'm in pain just talking about it.. Most people see animals as things you can abuse and discard.
@@ohthatchick7544so sickening. I guess humanity is that stupid and lost that we need regulations to tell us how to handle animals or how not to mistreat them. With information at everyone's fingertips and still can't get it right. Not even close to right... This is so heartbreaking. I can't stop it all by myself, because it would have been stopped by now.
@@annehaase3380 so I used to teach a dance class near a pet store. One day a couple of 12\13 year olds got dropped off early and bought a mouse each. No supplies. No carrier/cage. No adult. They were still sold the mice. They had them in their pockets during my class *while dancing* and I didn't know until another kid told me they saw one of them, 30 minutes into class. My boss went to the pet store, explained, got food and a small carrier. Confiscated the mice until the end of class. Their parents were pissed and wouldn't let them take them home but the pet store had closed. They literally left them with us like they weren't their responsibility! So I took them for 3 nights until the pet store opened again to return them and the cage. I was only 17 ish at the time and was just doing what my boss told me. If I'd known better I'd have taken them to a mouse rescue. I hadn't expected to suddenly have mice and tried to panic research. Also I couldn't keep them because my parents wouldn't allow it. It was a terrible situation all around and I felt horrible for those poor little things bouncing around in a dancers pocket for half an hour. Those girls were naive but the store never should have been able to sell them to such young children.
What a brave, sweet, strong boy! He's still willing to take a chance, trust & start a new chapter in his life. Thank you so much for taking him in & giving the care he deserves!!!

@@neepers lmao how is this the sentence you decided to type?
SHE didn't trap Poncho. She rescued him.
@@Birdnerd1968Agreed. This bird is highly unlikely to have been a rescue lol.
@@Birdnerd1968 I was wondering why he wasn’t plucking out feathers due to stress. Griffey was an extreme case, but it took forever to get him out and he never stopped going at his feathers.
Amazon's are toddlers as a bird ngl
Don’t be that person…..
Thank you for the love & kindness you show these precious souls ❤
🥰🥰❤️❤️🙏🙏 Bless you PONCHO!!! May you have THE FULLEST life possible from this day forward!!!
You truly are a miracle in their lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, from all of them to YOU. Love does wonderful things. ❤
“Hello” to you handsome man. I’m crying happy tears over this sweet boy getting his second chance in life. Thank you so much ❤
Thank you for being so kind and caring. This little parrot, Poncho will absolutely love you for it 💙🏴
You are an Angel. Thank you for taking this beautiful bird in.So sad that someone could do that to a beautiful animal.❤
Thank you SO much for rescuing this intelligent, emotionally sensitive fellow creature.
Thank ypu for rescuing him!!!!! 39 years, he deserves the best and that is what he is getting now❤
Your heart must be bursting with joy. Look how confident he's becoming. I hope he finally gets to enjoy life with you! ❤❤
Aww this is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for FINALLY giving Poncho the life he’s deserved all along! What a handsome lil guy he Is!!!
Thanking you...kind soul.
So sweet. Glad you rescued him. Thank you bunches!!
Oh thank God he has you now … hope he can still fly 🙏🤞
That’s so cool that you rescued Poncho. People run out & buy Parrots thinking they’re cute & will just talk without being taught & then they get abandoned or left in cages. It’s very sad. Parrots are a lot of work & it’s obvious that he’s beginning to trust you. ❤
Finally, Pancho will know what love, freedom and good food is, he'll live even longer because of this. LIVING his best life now, BRAVO Pancho, you made it!!
His food at the start is vet grade Amazon food. He can't eat just steamed vegetables its bad for their beaks
@greenbirdbrigade Thank You for all that you do for all of your rescue birds. It takes a very Compassionate, Patient, & Loving Soul to help these rescue birds after years of suffering from previous owners who had no business being parrot owners. These Beautiful Birds are not a toy for a brief moment they are a Lifetime Commitment especially since they outlive most of their owners. Thank You so very much for all that you do in providing a safe & loving home to your rescues. ❤ You are truly an Angel 😇
Imagine though, these people have children. Hot do they treat their children when they treat living things like decoration?
Thank you for introducing us to Poncho. And so heartwarming that you were able to rescue him.
He is absolutely beautiful!! Thank you for saving him and giving him a life full of love and respect!
What a brave, sweet, strong boy! He's still willing to take a chance, trust & start a new chapter in his life. Thank you so much for taking him in & giving the care he deserves!!!
Priceless! I loved this video!♥️🙏👍
He's precious!! Im so glad he has you!! Thank you!! ❤
What a beauty! Sweet boy! Thank you for loving him!❤
Cruelty is disgusting and takes many forms! Thank you for helping this lovely bird !
Bless you for rescuing Poncho. You are God’s angel. This brought me happy tears.
He's absolutely stunning 💚💚 Thank you for giving him a better life.
Thank you for giving Pancho such a loving home and how beautifully he responded to you ❤🦜
Seeing him start to explore the happy new world around him is so incredible. Thank you for being you!!!
He's a precious bird.❤❤ Thank you for your love for him.
You are the best "bird lady"❤❤
Had a friend that had a parrot. He learned my friend and I using " military lingo " when playing games like Call of Duty as kids. He would go " SUPPRESSING FIRE. " and begin mimicking LMG sounds. Was hilarious.
Should have been given more attention than the TV. They've taken our attention from our families and loved ones and weaponized it
He's beautiful. It's so sad to think he spent half hos life alone. It's wonderful what you do for these birds.
Love to you and Poncho.
It's going to be a long joy ride from now on.
We thank you for bringing him home and to all of us❤❤❤❤
It makes me so angry that people get these birds without having the slightest idea how to ethically care for them, and the bird is the one that ends up suffering. So grateful there are amazing rescues out there like you that give these incredibly creatures a second chance at life 🙏🏻
❤ *THANK YOU FOR HELPING HIM, GOD BLESS YOU* ❤
Beautiful....Bless him and you for rescuing this fine Fellow. How sad his life was so confined..but how wonderful his future with you is going to be beautiful..Many Blessings 🙏🙏🙏🙏
This makes me so happy! Thank you for rescuing this beautiful bird! ❤❤❤
I shed a tear this reminds me of when my family rescued a Amazon
Hello Poncho! Lucky, lucky Poncho & fortunate you for the joy in sharing your life with such an affectionate companion. A pox on poachers and on negligent status seekers and just bloody cruel people who deserve nothing less than an eye for an eye.
🥰 really nice. Great that he has a good Home now.
Can't wait to move with my Birds so Things can also get better for them. Mine aren't Rescues but relatively similar Situation because the Owner couldn't keep them longer. Really excited to get them a bigger Cage too
They are such wonderful animals.
Bless you for giving this beautiful bird a beautiful new life. ❤
Thank you for loving him and saving him. My heart breaks when I hear his story but LEAPS for joy at his new life. They live long lives I heard. It's still a shame. Not even one day in isolation is ok. Thank you for loving him.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are an angel. Anyone who rescues or adopts animals from others who either abused them or didn't understand how to care for them, have my utmost respect. Its hard yet so very rewarding. I'm so glad Poncho is making great progress into his new life with you. 💖💖💖💖
Amazing thank you ❤. Heartbreaking 40 years. Poor poor boy. He is already so much happier !!❤❤
Thank you for the restart on a new life for this bird.❤
Thank you for rescuing him and giving him his best life ever❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

my 15y parrot passed away last week, seeing those kind of parrot videos warm up my heart
I'm sorry for your loss, that can't be easy as we fall in love with our animals they are family to us. It hurts to not have them around, but you have him a good loving home. God Bless you.🙏🏻
