haha...glad you spotted that. You'd have done a better job than Beale that's for sure. Love watching your pre-match vids. Bumped into Gilesy at Leicester last year, lovely fella too. Roll on the new season.
@@altending that wouldn’t of been hard to be fair haha n yeah 🤞🤞🤞 we get off to a good start. I recon transfers in n transfers out will be vital, I.e. a bloody proven striker.
Thank you for taking the time to drop a comment here. It makes all the difference. It would be something to see winger play natural sides and attack the outside. Imagine.
Great analysis, as always, mate. We'll have to wait and see what he brings. I only hope the fans at least give him a chance and not write him off before a ball is kicked. It sounds like he started okay at Lorient until they pulled the rug from under him. I'm sure sure Pep would struggle if the chairman sold all his best players (and didn't give him £billions to replace them). The concern is his inability and/or unwillingness to make changes when things started going bad; unless you're winning every game, the manager/HC has to be able to adapt.
Honestly, I'm just glad we have a manager that isn't Dodds. With this, and the new Club Shop, it finally feels as though the club is progressing forwards again. Hopefully a few good transfers to come and then we can forget about last season and push for playoffs again. Great video as always 🔴⚪
I was hoping you might do one of these. Fascinating, as always... Thanks! I haven't seen any other deep analysis of what happened in the last two seasons at Laurient, so I'm really grateful for that, although the defensive passivity and apparent stubbornness in sticking with an approach that wasn't working are quite concerning, on the face of it! There are, of course, plenty of examples of Head Coaches who've suffered relegations early in their careers after showing initial promise. Jurgen Klopp for one, and Vincent Kompany would be another more recent example. Kompany might prove an even more apposite comparison, in fact. He had an extraordinarily successful debut season and then a catastrophic second characterised, in my opinion, by just the kind of extreme stubbornness of which you're suggesting Le Bris has been guilty. There seemed to be a pig-headed unwillingness to recognise the pragmatic necessities of managing a club like Burnley in the Premier League; the idea that it was somehow possible to match better resourced teams at their own game. I actually think, however, he'll prove a much better fit at Bayern where there should be no need for this kind of compromise, though whether he'll prove a match for Alonso is another matter entirely. Le Bris represents a huge gamble, obviously, and whether he works out for us or proves to be Beale Mk.2 is hard to predict. If he does go the way of Beale, Speakman will surely have to go with him, as that will then become one howler too many. The worrying thing is that the signs of familiar Speakman hubris are, potentially, all over this appointment. If he's still labouring under the misapprehension, as with the Beale fiasco, that we only require a Head Coach with a good track record in player development and coaching (while he, Speakman, takes care of everything else) rather than a... Manager, with all the tactical nous and psychological smarts that that implies, then this could go tits-up very quickly! What I do like about the appointment is that Le Bris is clearly an intelligent man and a student of the game, so one would hope he's learnt from the past two seasons and his work in football prior to that. That was what I wanted more than anything... someone capable of understanding the strengths of our squad, giving our players clarity of purpose, and conceiving a bespoke tactical plan, game-by-game. I wanted someone, in other words, who could give us an edge in the battle of minds with other Championship (and, eventually, Premier League) Head Coaches. His academic background in sports science (Dr. Le Bris!) and psychology might also prove crucial in many ways (although it would seem quintessentially Speakman to put too much stock in these things). I hoped this might signal an improvement in our squad's fitness levels so as to successfully implement a high press and get us on the ball in the right areas to cause damage, but your tactical analysis on his work in France might suggest otherwise. I suppose we'll see... Le Bris' statement on appointment was, I thought, beautifully judged, in its humility, in its emphasis on the fans and the community and a recognition that style will be as important as results (cf. England, Euro '24). That already suggests an improvement on Beale in one key aspect - communcation! His early interviews (presumably he'll be in the building on Monday July 1st?) will be interesting, not least because I haven't heard him speak in English yet! I'm going to be looking for further signs of intelligence and humility. That will give me confidence that he's capable of learning and developing as a Head Coach, so that last season could appear, in time, as an early 'blip' similar to the one Klopp experienced at Mainz back in '06-'07. If I don't see those things, I'll be worried that Speakman hasn't managed to learn his own lessons of last season. We might, however, get great initial communication, and still see a car crash on the pitch in August... Let's hope he both talks the talk AND walks the walk!
Lots of detail in your reply there. I largely agree. I'm ok with his relegation, lots of mitigating factors. His style might suit us and my understanding is that he will be bringing some of his own team with him. Let's see.
Its been a long time G....glad youre back....but as for Lorient low block and low Av possession under RLB..could that be a result of them being a small fish in a big pond whereas we are a big fish in a small pond which is the championship...out team Have shown we are capaple of dominating possession we possess enough technical abilty to do so..could this see a slight tweak in his approach?
As always, love your common sense and objective commentary. My worst fears are good players leaving and not being replaced. I believe we were persona non grata to English managers after the way we treat Tony Mowbray. Plus which manager? Would put their burgeoning career in the hands of Speakman. Until there a top to bottom clear out at out club things will not get better. I don't trust Dreyfus to be a good steward of the club. My prediction bottom half of the table if we are lucky.
Thanks for that. Glad that you're still here after six months, means I'm doing ok making the vids. I'm bound to get it wrong from time to time, so make sure you let me know when that is. I reckon this sort of appointment was what they wanted all along. this would have been considered a coup and a step up from Mowbray had he been appointed in December. Le Bris' stock has fallen and so has ours since then. Let's hope this puts us back on track...but I remain wary. The shirt launch, KLD being present, new manager present. There's a real opportunity to reset things, just need to pull their fingers out and sign a centre forward. Do that, get off to a decent start and maybe they can turn it around. Let's see what happens.
We might be able to watch some entertaining football if nothing else. It will be interesting to see if he will turn to counter-attacking football again. I'm not sure what style of play KLD and Speakman want to play anymore. Thoughts? It's usually a good idea to strive for high possession if you want to get promoted.
I think he will. We are a larger fish in a smaller pond in the Championship, compared to Lorient in Ligue 1. Slightly different circumstances here with us. So fingers crossed eh?
Let us hope that Le Bris has learned from his last season, after all, relegation might allow for some self-reflection. Now we need KLD and Speakman to support him in the transfer window and surprise us the way Mowbray did in his work with the youth.
Great Video! I especially loved the dsh of history. I'm not surprised to hear that story. The Tavistock Inst. WW2 Bombing Survey says the bombing of civilians was incredibly common. Way more than munitions factories. 80-20.
I'd take Tavistock with a pinch of salt, they are propagandists, social engineers, psychological warfare and brainwashing experts. Though I don't doubt the bombing of civilians happened on both sides. The civilians always lose.
I'll go and check that out. Bet it makes grim reading. Glad you like the video and the historical interlude...you never know how things are going to be received.
Let's hope history doesn't repeat for RLB in us selling all of our best players. Also let's hope Regis defense line system shows some flexibility/evolution.
At least it's not Dodds. Reggie is an unknown, and that gives me hope. Schrodingers season... Could be good, could be shite. Won't know until we open 'that box'. I don't like that he doesn't really have a plan b, and is stubborn. That was our downfall under mowbray for a while, and teams sussed us out very quickly.
I can see Aouchiche flourishing under Le Bris honestly, time for him to claim that position, a much better player than Jobe imo. It's clear Le Bris definitely could've done things differently in his last year at Lorient but if we had the same scenario here I think the fans would be blaming the board more than the manager for cashing in anyone of quality and essentially making the manager a scape goat. Imagine if in January the season before last when we had a well performing team, our board sold Stewart, Clarke, Roberts and Pritchard during the season. I don't think fans would have been having a go at Mowbray if we fell off and got relegated because of those mid season sales, they'd be trying to get the board to sell up and would be after Speakman with pitchforks 😂 But hey hoy, at least he'll not have to worry about losing half a squad to AFCON here haha.
At the very least Aouchiche should be playing on the right ahead of Roberts or Ba. As Alt Ending pointed out in his end of season review video, Aouchiche is clearly our best set piece deliverer and needs to be on the field.
@@AW_77 100%. I personally think it's only Clarke that's proven they're better in the final squad currently. I still hold out hope for Mundle and Rusyn tho.
My only concern here is that it was Le Bris who sold Aouchiche a year ago for a third of the price he'd been bought for 12 months prior. He played only 10 times I think and mostly substitute appearances, so it's hard to know if he rated Adil or not. Seems he didn't. Different set of players here though.
Ah Didier Drogba's dong from Lorient. If only we could have afforded the rest of him from Chelsea. Not a great portend that. I'm now worried after seeing this video. He was basically great at managing someone else's good players, but wastes money on overrated prima donnas who he can't get a tune out of. He'll be gone around the same time Mowbray was last season and we'll stay up on the final day at home to QPR, is how i see the season panning out.
Fortunately here he's at a club that's a bigger fish in a smaller pond than where he was and he'll have no hand in transfers. Hopefully he jus sticks to the bits of the job he's good at.
