One thing I’ve heard is a bit of mixing advice:
Our ears get fatigue, so the best way to approach mixing is to only do it for about ten minutes at a time. Then wait a while before picking back up on the same project.
    :)
    Hope that’s helpful.

Cakewalk, Waveform Tracktion, Soundbridge and LMMS are all free and worth looking at. Audacity is difficult to work with if you are serious. Garageband is a good starter programme. Serato's free version has limits, Reaper has loads of feature and is $60 if you decide you like it.

It's always great to see what's new and available in terms of DAWs. My feelings on DAW choice is choose the one that allows you to be creative out of the box. Choose a DAW that allows you to create immediately and that will remain viable as you progress and become more professional. Thanks for the video!

Reaper is the one. I've tried most of the popular daws, pro tools, logic, Ableton, FL etc but Reaper is in a league of it's own. Most people get turned off by the barebone look of Reaper but its the most flexible, feature rich, customizable DAW I've ever used. The community is so good you can find scripts that makes the DAW so much powerful. Reaper is so tightly coded that it can even run on the slowest computers and the installer size is like just 15mb lol.

Great DAWs all of them but I personally would like to try the Reaper more than any. If it does all in one , Editing, Mixing and Mastering then it is worth the try. Surely it will help reveal other skills to engineers like mastering as most people love to but are not that familiar.
As we make music in South Africa mostly sure we use it on live performances it sounds great, and I think it can be more powerful for us to record our vocals using it. Just to make our music more clearer because the mic you use does a lot.

The best part of GarageBand and logic as a duo is the fact that I could be at the park with my little dude, watching him play, and I’m coming up with ideas on editing, that I get home, and I put it into logic like I was literally using logic at the park. Also, if you know how to use GarageBand, or if you know how to work around certain things that you can’t do. You can make music as dope as anybody. I guarantee it. Lastly, logic and GarageBand, I believe has it as well is logic remote, so I am literally on my couch or making dinner for the family and I’m controlling logic with so many parameters to be able to adjust and literally use like I’m sitting at my Mac computer. Being able to use the two together in different scenarios makes it untouchable. In my opinion, if you know how to use logic, you can do anything you can do want any other interface. One drawback is you have to have a Mac but honestly with having an iPhone and iPad and I’m at computer I’m literally making beats or recording or editing on three different machines at one time. I know that sounds crazy but definitely easy as F and crazy amount of potential or possibilities. Oh yeah, don’t forget. Logic is free for two months off top. You’re welcome lol thank you Ditto for the dope content 🤘🏼

Are all these Daws capable of getting a Spotify / radio quality finish?
I always struggle with getting a demo or song to sound more professional (I am a
vocalist) but would love to be able to produce my own tracks.
I currently use garageband on a 2013 macbook … As u can imagine it struggles. but never sure of its worth the upgrade to a new macbook & Logic pro as I feel it more about production / mixing skills than which daw is being used. Would u agree or do you think a newer system and upgrade would also help with the overall finished sound?
Great video btw👍 would have loved this when I was starting out. I started with FL studio, then audacity.

  • @thatk4rma

Awesome video ! I am someone who makes music on software often in demo mode and yet I manage to make multitudes of projects with catchy sounds by dint of going from simple free plugins or free DAWS, in done we find shortcuts and we develop our musical ear and that's what allowed me to make music that is out of the ordinary in my style! I don't have a big setup, I have a 1500$ laptop and a computer mouse and not the most expensive Beats headphones and I've been playing music for 12 years now with free demos and plugins and I learned to do incredible things that take more time but it's a passion that can only be done at the click of my mouse! So sometimes it's not worth buying big $500 products, you just need to have the motivation and the passion! The proof ! I recorded my first Single without a microphone but with wired Apple headphones 😂 and I don't let go of my passion even if it may seem out of the ordinary and well it's my style!

I've used Audacity in a couple of emergency situations and it's been great, particularly considering the price (i.e. free). I've also had many frustrating hours spent trying to export tracks from Garageband when clients have sent me GB projects for mixing. Have used Ableton a little, but its workflow doesn't fit my brain! Learned Reaper (to a reasonable standard) over lockdown and loved it - a bit short of processing and instruments (when compared to Logic, my go-to DAW) but very capable, slick and customisable.

Reaper is one of the most powerful DAW ,actually it's an advanced one in my opinion. Hence it only depends on how you use a particular DAW. The main vital thing on every advanced DAW like it, needs you to know how to use and understanding things like Compressors, all the ADSR insites of it, I'm talking about understanding EQ spectrum for audios, it might be a vocal or anything like Guitar...
Then Reaper would be that one DAW to use then make your hit, upload to DITTO for digital stores distribution ,there after with royalties from income streams you can go purchase REAPER and fully own it. Case closed.

Audacity isn't a DAW, Reaper isn't free. :/ Where's Ardour? It's open source, you can compile it yourself and use with no limitations. Only binary distributions have some limitations.
And next - Tracktion Waveform Free - no limited free to use multiplatform DAW...
