An alternative way to get that taper (and probably more dangerous) is to use a bench jointer set to cut at half an inch or so. It's how the guys at work shape the back bottoms of some of the smaller cabinet carcasses. High likelihood of kickback, but if it works it'll be faster. Be safe, your fingers and your life are worth more than a chair leg.
