even _dave mustaine,_ a *professional heavy metal singer,* sounded like one of us trying to sing along to soundgarden. that is such a testimony to how unique chris's voice really was.
paragshah2112 Dave Mustaine himself admits that he's not a good singer. He is most famous for his songwriting from the pre-2000s which inspired many bands. Chris Cornell had a great and unique voice, but using Mustaine as a vocal benchmark is akin to comparing apples and oranges.
Dave Mustaine is in his mid 50's and battling a kidney stone. All the drugs Mustaine did have taken a toll on his body. If this was in the 90's then it would sound a lot different. If Dave could sing Holy Wars and other songs off Rust in Peace, he could sing this. Not trying to downplay Cornell as a singer.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest Megadeth fan but this is truly a beautiful moment in time. He concedes from the beginning to not being able to hit the notes but does it out of respect and love sings through the tears he's holding back. He silences hecklers for the memory of his friend and won't start the song until respect is given. Bravo Dave, Bravo!
Yeah, musicians are like big family, when someone dies it is like one of your family dies. Dave also says he was his friend so...nice tribute from Dave and Megadeath.
I could not agree with you more!! The artists that have made it through the business should respect the others that did as well. I will never know but I have always heard its a tough life in spite of the fame and money.
I love that, even though Mustaine is struggling with the vocals, the attitude about the cover is really awesome. Thanks Megadeth, rest in peace Chris Cornell
This came out hours after the death was announced. So considering how little time they had to prepare this tribute, it not being their style, and Dave telling a rude fan to STFU, I say this deserves nothing but respect. Kudos Dave.
What the hell is wrong with those people?!? I call bullsh*t since most people know simple words like "died," "today" and "sad," after all he must have known some English since Dave understood him enough to call him on it. If they had any sort of human decency in them they could have seen by the tone of Dave's voice and the crowd around them being stunned (who, btw, seemed to understand just fine what he was saying even though they were playing to a Japanese audience - just sayin') that something serious had happened... there's no excuse for being an obnoxious butt-munch. From the way Dave said, "Wha'd you say?" and singling out some dipsh*t in the crowd talking smack, that boy is lucky Dave didn't kick his ass right out the door. So sad that CC passed away far too soon... and mad respect for Megadeth for paying tribute to one of biggest contributors to rock n' roll from my generation. ***heart*broken***
Props to Dave and Megadeth for doing this! Mustaine knew he couldn't do justice to Chris's vocals, so he didn't try. He just did it Megadeth style, and it was pretty cool.
Yeah, its cool he did it his own way, i generally think its pointless to do a cover by just copying the original, i have usually made alot of changes when doing a cover, its very seldom i do covers nowdays.
even if i try to replicate verbatim, if i love a song i've been told that i cover it in my own style. i don't try to and in my head is what the guitarist was thinking i am sure. though i think its spot on, people tell me they like my "signature" on it. anyway, agreed re: mustaine. only ariana grande has a better range than cornell. proud of dave for getting a lot of it down. i wouldn't think he'd be able to pull it off. its like the heat he took for his cemetery gates solo. i think he rocked it and the slide downs at the end were just started early. pretty cool in my book.
In the audience one man said _"fuck him!"_ about Chris Cornell, that's why Dave Mustaine shocked reacted. I like the fact that him and the singer of Stone Sour said they are not Chris, that they don't sing like him before to perform, this is humility and admiration. Thanks to them to their tribute.:)
Really....so exactly at what minute and second in this video do you here anyone say this? Cause I have watched this video several times and do not here anyone say fuck him????
I could watch Mustaine tell people off all day. Pure entertainment. On a lighter note, very heartfelt tribute to CC. Great job. Like the Megadeth touch in Outshined.

Probably both @Cynical Metal. But I was referring to the singing aspect. Dave's voice isn't Chris' voice and Outshined is a hard song to sing, especially in front of a huge audience. This shows how much Dave has changed over the years and how humble and caring he is now. This is one of THE most heart felt tributes ive seen in a very long. time. RIP Chris
Thanks Dave, you made Chris's passing finally hit me. I am devastated. He was one of the hardest voices to cover for me. What a talent. We all love and miss you already.

Exactly, I've seen Megadeth multiple times and the last time was 2 weeks ago and his vocal was terrible, hardly audible when he had to sing the high notes. Although the crowd not seems to bother since Megadeth has always been guitar oriented band. His guitar playing is still flawless though. Dave is in his mid 50's and after countless album, countless tour, countless rehab, injury , surgery etc , I actually surprise he's still able to perform at all.

@@humantacos9800NRA? You must mean the IRA? I suppose it would depend on what part of Ireland Megadeth was in whether he could say something like that or not. The IRA has changed quite a bit over the years since guys like Michael Collins were around so I honestly don't know how favorable they are nowadays. I remember when Delores O'Riordan & The Cranberries' wrote that "Zombie" song in the 90's, it seemed like maybe Ireland was getting sick of all the bombs after seeing so many children get killed. My family is Irish although I live in America, and the IRA goes way back as an important part of Ireland's independence from Britain so I don't know why Dave would say that.
Thanks Dave for remembering Chris, I look forward to seeing you in Sept. in Reading PA....God Bless You Chris, thank you for sharing your talent and life with us!
Mustaine giving tribute to COrnell is just a small part of the class the man now exudes. Love Chris.... RIP ... thanks Dave and thanks for the download.
I really loved it, so I shared it. Still, I'm shocked to know about Chris Cornell's death, that I've been always a fan. Even so, I really enjoyed the attitude of another guy that I also think is spectacular, Dave Mustaine. A big hug for Chris, wherever he is ...
Awesome tribute. I played outshined the other night and cried my eyes out in disbelief. Outshined inspired me to never give up give everything I have all the time. Miss you man
Dave is turning out to be such an awesome wiser old fella. Amazing change in personality over the years, got so much respect for a man willing to change/evolve his philosophies and views on life!
BIEN DICHO CARAJO ! BIEN MEGADETH ACOMPAÑANDO EL SENTIR POR TAN DOLOROSA PÉRDIDA. CHRIS CORNELL NUNCA MORIRÁ , SU PORTENTOSA VOZ SEGUIRÁ CANTANDO EN LA ETERNIDAD.
MrMustard where are all the videos of you singing better? Oh yeah, that's right you probably suck way worse at singing, which is why you don't get the opportunity to do so in front of millions of people around the world like Dave does.
Today were all looking California and feeling Minnesota . First soundgarden song i ever heard on a game called road rash.. been my favourite band ever since... gods speed chris..x
+ it doesn't even have to be good or perfect. he is not trying to prove anything. he just pays a tribute for his friend / a fallen angel. he says that he is no Chris. that says a lot of things.
Phone recordings actually cover up a lot of mistakes... So your point is kind of lost. Also anybody with trained ears can hear past that and just listen to the performance.
the respect really hits the heart, born 90, I heard so much sound garden on the radio. My dad being a metal head, I was exposed to a broad spectrum of rock and metal. I used to have dreams of how weird the video to black hole sun was. Chris Cornell's voice and delivery, will forever be remembered.
Well done Megadeth and Dave Mustane. This was an impromptu tribute to a great artist. The fact that Dave Mustaine said he couldn't mimic Chris' voice but still paid tribute is fair play.
There was absolutely no doubt who I was listening to every time his amazing voice entered my ear canal. Thank you for the soul you shared with all of us Mr. Cornell.

Really great impromptu tribute by Dave Mustaine. Glad he called out the loser who was being disrespectful. RIP Chris Cornell.
Thanks Dave for remembering Chris, I look forward to seeing you in Sept. in Reading PA....God Bless You Chris, thank you for sharing your talent and life with us!
Love Dave. This was so cool of him.
Great tribute to a great person. Thanks for the good words for our friend Chris Cornell. He will be missed.
At least he was honest, he doesn't sing as well as Chris could, but since it's the thought that counts, this was an awesome tribute
They're not better or worse they just have different vocal styles.
Pepsi Man Dave Mustaine is not a good singer and Chris is arguably one of the best. There's nothing wrong with that Mustaine said it himself.
David Edwards 1000% different vocal styles
Around the 5:30 mark, looks like he's trying not to break down.
Doesn't sing as well as him?? This is the worst singing i've ever seen. This is so bad it doesn't even qualify as singing.
Thank you Dave! Very nice moment! All the best from Portugal!
un grande homenajeando a otro grande, respect /,,/
I so love this and wish the audio was clearer. Thanks Megadeth for honoring Chris Cornell!
Wow RIP Chris Cornell so young.
Mustaine giving tribute to COrnell is just a small part of the class the man now exudes. Love Chris.... RIP ... thanks Dave and thanks for the download.
Dave is such a respectable getleman even when he's insulting people. R.I.P Chris, Hail Dave.
I really loved it, so I shared it. Still, I'm shocked to know about Chris Cornell's death, that I've been always a fan. Even so, I really enjoyed the attitude of another guy that I also think is spectacular, Dave Mustaine. A big hug for Chris, wherever he is ...
great tribute
Awesome tribute. I played outshined the other night and cried my eyes out in disbelief. Outshined inspired me to never give up give everything I have all the time. Miss you man
you just became even cooler for this Dave....
Thank you Dave. I never knew you two were friends but its so cool that were....Thank you. Miss you Chris.
como te voy a extrañar Chris! 😢 gracias Colo por homenajearlo❤
Thank you Dave. Such a great person, who knows what to say even at the most somber moments
Dave was too choked up to sing and I don't blame him
no, he just sucks at singing.
Look at any videos of him singing live for the past few years...LOL
MrMustard where are all the videos of you singing better? Oh yeah, that's right you probably suck way worse at singing, which is why you don't get the opportunity to do so in front of millions of people around the world like Dave does.
Sounds better than Papa Het. Different singing styles, though.
fuck you.
RIP Chris Cornell
We feel so too...thanks Dave.
We love Sound Garden and Chiris Cornell... and your songs.
was actually hoping for "a tout le monde" here
this nice tribute to such a big rock star. You will be missed Chris.
megagarden
Sounddeth?
Soundgardeth?
HELLRIDER dethgarden
MEGA SOUND DETHGARDEN!!
Megarden definitely. You all just could not nail it dumbasses
Kudos to Dave! He gave it his best shot to pay tribute to a friend. Say Hello 2 Heaven, Chris.
Respect to Dave Mustaine! Also ain't nobody singing that song like Chris so don't even try to criticize.
Today were all looking California and feeling Minnesota .
First soundgarden song i ever heard on a game called road rash..
been my favourite band ever since...
gods speed chris..x
The song probably sounded amazing in person. People saying that it was a bad cover have no idea what a phone recording does to a song.
+ it doesn't even have to be good or perfect. he is not trying to prove anything. he just pays a tribute for his friend / a fallen angel. he says that he is no Chris. that says a lot of things.
leventunver hah, a fallen angel, get it?
Phone recordings actually cover up a lot of mistakes... So your point is kind of lost. Also anybody with trained ears can hear past that and just listen to the performance.
Depends on the quality of it.
LOL
the respect really hits the heart, born 90, I heard so much sound garden on the radio. My dad being a metal head, I was exposed to a broad spectrum of rock and metal. I used to have dreams of how weird the video to black hole sun was. Chris Cornell's voice and delivery, will forever be remembered.
Respect to Dave Mustaine & Megadeth for this heart felt tribute! #RIPChrisCornell
i like the way he davefied the vocals. a classy tribute. thanks megadeth
The way he said "Chris Cornell died today", dude, It made me cry.
Well done Megadeth and Dave Mustane. This was an impromptu tribute to a great artist. The fact that Dave Mustaine said he couldn't mimic Chris' voice but still paid tribute is fair play.
"I can't sing like Chris" , you're right dave, no one can, but thanks for trying, nice touch
Rip Chris Cornell +++
There was absolutely no doubt who I was listening to every time his amazing voice entered my ear canal. Thank you for the soul you shared with all of us Mr. Cornell.
Thank you Megadeth sincerely the rock community
