These old film recordings are a treasure. We are indebted to people such as Joe St Leger for filming such nostalgia and railway heritage.

Fantastic to see film of this line. There's so little of this era in Ireland while there's more than plenty from the rest of Europe. Well done to all involved in restoring and uploading this footage.

Brings back happy memories of travelling in the Engine with my Dad "Billy O'Halloran " all those years ago. Loved the turntable in Youghal station.

Great footage by Joe of the busy summer trains to Youghal , all big trains made up of all kinds of coaches some dating from GSR days which used to be stored in the low road siding at Cork Kent stn for use on these trains. Its a shame the line is not reopened as it a busy commuter route now and the train to the seaside would draw the crowds as the road is choked with cars on fine summer days. A9r newly re-engined is featured as A9 in Tony Prices film on a goods from Dungarvan to Waterford in 1966.

Cork---Youghal line should never have closed , what a facility to have now with more disposal spend & Youghal Town would shew the commercials be nights of a rail connection .
Now it's to become a public wake way & cycle ride . What say the public . It's a sad sad day when it closed !

Agree, that line could be viable if reopened for both commuters to Cork and summer tourism. We have enough blasted greenways already and I say that as a leisure cyclist. With climate change train is the most efficient and comfortable way to get commuters into cork from Youghal and its surrounding area.

the good thing about greenways is that it keeps the original track way there if its ever needed in the future. However, i think Youghal should be reinstated and the track from midelton being extended again.
Record numbers and strong growth were also recorded on the Cork/Midleton route with passenger numbers up almost 10% from 437,000 passenger journeys to 480,000. Cork/Cobh also performed strongly and was up 7% from 908,000 to 971,000.
Obviously it doesn't need locos on the route and just the commuters are fine. Its 15 million euro of a track upgrade id guess considering its 1.2 million a mile of track. Add another 6 million for building revamps at Killeagh and Youghal.
Foynes is another must and The Department of Transport need to pull their finger out

Good to see the man himself in shot at Youghal. One shot at least is after 1972, as the loco is in the "Supertrain" livery.

We need a better train service and to reopen all closed railway routes throughout Ireland bring back Freight or even bring back Sugar beet, reopening closed railway lines will stop car accidents, road deaths & traffic jams also can cut down pollution.
