I’ve said it a million times, PT left MSU as the starting quarterback because he didn’t want to fight for his starting job. That is a huge red flag 🚩and a character flaw that you don’t want in a QB. He ain’t got that dog in him. He’s scared of the pressure. The offensive line is not the issue. They applied pressure by blitzing. QB is supposed to identify the blitz and throw the ball where the extra defender is coming from. Smh.
The last thing I thought we would need to worry about this year was the coaching staff being incapable of adjusting during game.

Thorne is not an SEC quarterback. At best he is a backup quarterback for a MAC conference team. I like what Freeze is doing with the team except the quarterback position. He should have payed the big dollars to get a top QB in the portal.
Right Ike, it doesn’t matter if he can move if he doesn’t have pocket presence. He doesn’t have good pocket presence.

Mike, how can you say system is the problem if there are guys running wide open. Thorne has the autonomy to adjust the protection and the play. Make it make sense. No more excuses for Thorne.
I dont want to put words into Mike's mouth but I think he means the system doesn't utilize Thorne's better qualities. Freeze is forcing Thorne to play using RPO where Thorne is more of a pro-style QB.
Could be partially the OL’s fault but obviously not all on them.
Freeze is going to lose the fanbase and his job by continuing to make excuses and play Thorne. It’s painfully obvious what’s the problem with the offense and I can’t watch another game until he’s benched or graduates if freeze sticks with him.
I consider the deep sacks Peyton took as turnovers also. He basically turned ball over every possession except 3

Hugh if you want to show the young qbs your recruiting I’ll really give you a chance u prob need to make a change. I know if I was a recruit and no matter how the starter looks he ain’t coming out id prob go in another direction.
The time for change was in spring. Id rather have some unproven potential take their lumps and develop rather than a known negative.
We should have never fired Gus and just hired Hugh as a OC back in 2020 and have him recruit and recruit only since he the goat at that

I rather we kept Gus and hired Freeze as a recruiting coordinator. He would have to be a play caller as
OC and apparently he 100% against calling plays.

Not an Auburn fan, but I love you guys and I watched this game to see how my man KLS did. The INT at 2:13 left was just an abysmal read(if he read it at all). Cal appeared by my limited view to be in 2 deep. Rushed 4 dropped 7 and the play had 3 receivers going out against that. The slot receiver would have required a pretty precise pass but of what was run that was the throw. I know the clock was ticking but 1st and 10 you gotta put someone in motion to see what they show, and instead of keeping the RB and TE in for max protect you can audible out of it and get the RB in the flat for a quick 8-10 yds. I am taking hunter over those LBs all day, or at the very least Hunter being in the flat draws the corner down off the stop route or a LB from underneath that skinny post.
Quick check downs were there all night for 5+ yards at least. It's all on thorne for always wanting a big play
The problem with the 2nd turnover isn’t that he got hit it’s that the receiver was open and he held onto the ball to long
Why do all these teams we play outside the SEC have qbs that no one recruits and they roll in and beat us

This was the biggest game on Cal’s schedule.. they planned for revenge since we barely scraped by them last year, and we rubbed in it more by stealing their starting QB out of the portal

I’m sick and I agree with what everyone is saying. Saturday was Deja Vu from last year.
I’ll throw it back to the A&M game. CHF was upset with Payton about not calling the right protection. Said he knew how to call the right protection. So that should show you PT doesn’t know how to read the blitz off paper and out of practice. In practice it’s shown to you a couple times and in games you only see it during the drive and it’s way more fast paced. PT can’t read it that’s all there is to it. He knows his first read and if it isn’t there he’ll either throw it up or hold on to the ball way to long and it causes the O-Line to break down.
There’s a reason you transfer somewhere else going into your “senior” season
And it’s not because you’re that damn good.
I was wondering during the 2nd half... why is Coach not putting Hank in for a series.. if for nothing but to put a Spark in Payton Butt....

I don’t know if any of the backups at QB are the answer - but if you’re going to hold players accountable for their performance - a change must be made. It’s time to quit making excuses for PT and hold him accountable- give Hank the start!

Come on Mike G. Ok, it’s not ALL on Thorne is a very general statement that is different from how other QBs have been critiqued. I would be willing to bet, a better QB in the first half, makes a significant difference in the first half alone.

Hank Brown is a goofy looking kid… he may not look great in practice…. But under the lights? He has that dog in him… and he makes the boys believe
C-Dub is spot on, Thorne is going to be the starter vs New Mexico. Hopefully, like Mike G. said, change up the play calling.
P.T. will be QB1 vs New Mexico and look like a champ. Then P.T. will go into the Arkansas game and struggle. H.B. will come in mid 3rd qt become the starter and we will not have to look back!!
Speaking defensively, did anyone else notice our outside corners got better once K Scott was benched? Love Kionte, but playing the nickel was so much better for him. He got burned in the bowl game and continuously got beat against Cal. There were maybe 3 or 4 times that if he just turned his head he couldve have a pick or knocked the ball down. He was too busy trying to catch up to the receiver...just my opinion

Look at the OT and OL recruiting before and after 2013, you will know why. OT and OL is the key. Couches QBs WRs don’t matter if OL bad
I hate to complain about the QB position. I live in Tallahassee and they always try to top me.
If my Bears only deserved 7, then Auburn only deserved three. The first TD was on an out of bounds play that shouldn't have counted because the receiver hadn't established himself, and the second shouldn't have happened through a phantom PI.

I think PT fooled everyone. He’s a practice hero. He would make a damn good QB coach but he’s not a QB. I also think CHF’s ego is getting in the way of making a rational decision with Thorne. Thorne is a bust and no matter how much money he’s being paid is worth the destruction of the offense. It’s like loaning your best friend money and he doesn’t pay you back. You cut to cut ties and your losses and move tf on.
Its probable that Freeze will have to play both Thorne and Hank and entire half in the next game. He has to then judge which half was better. He has to give them equal time if he is going to make a judgment. imo
Not sure how that works, tho. Will Hank get reps with the 1st team against the UNM 1st team?
If not, are you judging them equally. If Hank is getting those reps, are you splitting them in the 1st whole game? Does that mean Auburn is in a dog fight and UNM still feels like they have a shot and you are turning to Hank to save the day?
@@TheWarRapport I see your point. Thanks for that analysis. QBs only get 12 shots per year at it. With that limited number of chances, people are breathing down their neck. Especially if the expectation is that you really only have 4 opportunities to lose.

I watched Aron Murray Georgia old quarterback film review of Peyton Thorne game Saturday and guys it was bad
We all wanted to believe the roster had improved enough to overcome PT. Hell, we even believed it when we were told PT was so much more confident and even better himself! He's a 5th year Senior. He is what he is. Changing the game plan with shorter throws isn't going to change it either. Freeze has got to change both.

Totally disappointed! Hugh has to own this! Payton is subpar bottom line! Here is my thoughts on it, Thorne knows the offense and is very knowledgeable. He is the type that if things don’t go as scripted he gets rattled and thrown off and never can recover. I didn’t see any leadership from Thorne and others when things went bad.
I think a lot of us just wanted to assume the oline was gonna be good this year but......

The problem is Thorne constantly holding the ball too long, not pulling the trigger to open receivers, and making true freshman decisions and mistakes as a 5th year senior.
