    YOUTH SOCCER 9v9 SOCCER FORMATION: 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1
PROS: Creating a lot of natural triangles, this Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 enables fast forward play and plenty of options to pass around opponents. With three forwards supported by two midfielders, it is very attacking.
CONS: Light in midfield if the attackers are not getting back to help out, this Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 can be weak against a counterattack if the midfield duo have pushed up in attack.
    DEFENSE
Defenders can be quickly outnumbered with only two in midfield to protect them, especially on the counterattack. The fullbacks must push into midfield when attacking and tuck in when the ball is lost. This is vital if the midfielders are caught upfield.
    MIDFIELD
The two midfielders are vital to this Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1. Supportive in attack, they must work hard to get back and cover any opposition breaks. At the moment of transition, they must flood back into midfield and try to get behind the ball.
    ATTACK
The strongest feature of this Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1, it plays forward with three attackers and the support of the midfield and fullbacks. The three forwards can play as two wingers and a Center forward or tuck in with three central attackers fed by the two midfielders. There is also the option for overlapping fullbacks.
    PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
This Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 is very close to being the 4-3-3 of 9v9. This means when the players are ready to move up to 11-a-side they will already be used to a similar system and will handle the transition more easily.
All that is needed is another center back and an extra midfielder. Rather like a student building up to taking end of year exams, they will slowly build up their knowledge of this system.
It is vital players switch through all the different positions so they have a clear idea of what players have to do in those positions, making it more likely they will be supportive in attack and defense.
The midfield duo consist of two central midfielders (usually different types of players such as a ‘6’ and ‘8’), and the front three includes a right and left winger with a center forward up top. The Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 is most commonly played without a natural number ’10’ (attacking midfielder) or ‘number 5’ (second center back), making it very easy to use the Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 as a stepping stone and building block into the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.
Although every player has an important job to do in the system, the two central midfielders are the ones who undoubtedly have the most crucial role as they are the link between defense and attack and responsible for so many key aspects to the game. Their job becomes even more crucial considering the massive space in between the outside defenders and wingers. In shutting down that space, central midfielders are often asked to create 2v1’s in defense by helping out the near sided fullback. If they fail in that task, other teams may be able to effectively use their wingers to destroy a team playing the 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 soccer formation.
Teams capable of keeping a large percentage of possession may choose to use the right and left defenders as key cogs in eliminating that gap as they push forward to create overloads in attack and the central midfielders stay in the middle of the field. But this can leave teams exposed on the counter attack.
On the flip side, teams who have trouble keeping a large percentage of possession, may choose to use their near-sided winger as a method of shutting down that space. But this causes the player, who is likely very gifted going forward, to have to do more than their fair share of defending and not be able to use their strengths to their advantage. This again emphasizes the crucial role of the central midfielders in the 3-2-3 as a link between defense and attack. Due to their massive importance in the Youth Soccer 9v9 Formation 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1, the central midfielders in the 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-4-1 will be the first to be examined more closely.
