Coach, thank you very much for a great summary and beautiful animation. I am moving up from 77 to 99 in summer and since I have twins on the team who are extremely fast and one is left footed I am seriously considering making them the wing backs in this formation rather than playing 1332. I share your concern of this being potentially too defensive if the wing backs don’t track forward enough

Yeah I think the space in front of the full backs provide a good incentive to push forward. So if you like your full backs to attack and are good at running with the ball, this system will be very good.

I've never understood including the goalie in the definition of a formation. I'd love to hear about formations where you don't use one.

I hear you. They are there and are part of the formation and makeup of the team so I include them, but to each their own.

A keeper is a valued member of the team so it's not particularly fair to leave them out

@@rossinroversafcit's nothing to do with fairness. It's simply understood that you play with a keeper. I've never once seen a team field a 0-4-4-3 for example.

Not including the keeper is a really old school way. In all coaching courses I’ve completed from the most basic, up to and including UEFA level courses the keeper is now included. I used to think similar to yourself but I now see why especially as a keeper has a more active role when building up from the back, being a sweeper keeper etc.
