    Ohhh. Now we are hooked.. I love the kiln builds and watching good people succeed and grow.. might I suggest putting the kiln outside to make room for the next kiln.. you have some valuable storage and work space there ..

      I love watching other peoples kiln builds too but surprisingly there isnt that many out there. The reason im going inside with this one is because i have no fencing or security around the property and allowing the container to be inside will allow me to leave the kiln full and burning without risk of anyone tampering with it or stealing the wood which could happen in my area.
      I understand your view but just now it isnt feasable to have any asset out in the open.
      Thank you for commenting buddy, take it easy 👍

    Wow that building is huge an it looks like you will have plenty of inside room . With all the rain you guys get i would think a kiln is a must have . Dry lumber pays better than green lumber an the same thing with firewood .

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much Phil, the building is a fair size but you know as well as me, bigger building means more stuff inside it.
      Yes a kiln is quite important for our rainy climate, we never seem to have proper seasons and its difficult to dry firewood or finished timber when it rains all the time.
      Happy new year buddy 👍

    Nick you forgot to set the parking brake! Maybe wheel chocks would prevent splitter backing up? Massive building to improve best luck.

      😂 i had to think when you said set the parking brake, i was thinking about a sort of brake on the splitter to stop it from wandering off. I have some off cuts of firewood at the other yard that works a treat for the wheel chocks.
      Thank you and happy new year buddy 🥳

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      😆 yes at least on a hill side you have natural drainage and no problem of sitting water as such. Flat land is good but requires man made grade to stop water etc, not ideal as such 😂
      Happy new year to you too buddy 🥳

    Wouldn't sweat the drainage too much, as long as you got access to the digger you can make ditches as needed & clear them every so often. May not even need pipe for that bottom bit if its a good fall. Once you patch the roof on the tin building I'd hold back on spending more on it for the time being, maybe look to add a new building in the long run on a proper concrete base. Come summer it'll all look a lot better & be a lot easier with the long nights.
    Best of luck anyway & happy New year.

    • @everydaywithmenick
      @everydaywithmenick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hey buddy and thanks for commenting. I take your advice, the area is low at the moment and once a generous layer of hardcore would be laid down and packed down then the area wouldnt have many low spots any more.
      Just with all the roofs and the guttering, the water will have to go somewhere but i may be able to put in a 4" man hole drain pipe and divert that water off the property. Who knows, its all early days with a massive adventure ahead of me.
      Another building will definitely be on the cards with a good solid concrete base to work out of.
      Thank you for your support, take it easy buddy, all the best 👍

      @@everydaywithmenick look into making soakaways: dig a pit & fill it with rubble, broken bricks ideal. Plastic crate type even better but if you on a budget rubble will last a few years.

      @@papalegba6796 yeah like a french drain style ? did a big hole and fill in with gravel etc ?

    • @papalegba6796
      @papalegba6796 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@everydaywithmenick that the traditional & cheapest way, but you can get plastic crate soakaways specially designed for it now, last longer & more efficient. If you line the pit with permeable membrane it helps prevent it silting up, but that another expense you can avoid short term.
      Thing is, if you got access to a digger keeping up on drainage will not be a problem, them things magic lol.

      @@papalegba6796 i know what you mean now, just took my brain to have a little think what you were on about.
      theyre like 12" square boxes arent they ? just like culvert or perforated pipe, it would need a membrane around it all for fines etc.
      Yeah whilst ive got a digger i may as well use it to keep making the drainage better or clearer.
      Thanks again buddy 👍

      Hey Steve, yes i need to make some chocks for the wheels so they remain in place when im splitting, i thought about making some sort of brake for it too but ill just put chocks behind the wheels. Its only the return momentum that is sending it backwards.

      @everydaywithmenick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Russell and thank you for commenting, thank you for your kind words.
      Unfortunately the splitter is no longer in production and it is a shame because its a great machine with enough power to split the knottiest of woods.
      I have been thinking about getting the parts reverse engineered or working in a similar way. I like the clutch design over direct drive to a pinion gear onto the rack.
      The Super Split splitter is the next best one from what i can see on the internet.

      Hi Roland and thanks for commenting, the splitter is called Jansen FS35 kinetic log splitter. Unfortunately they no longer make these units anymore. They are quick and surprisingly have a lot of energy behind them to split big rounds.

      Happy new year to you also buddy 👍 thank you, im thinking of a container style build with forced hot air in at one end. I was thinking of making a boiler style dryer but i think that would take longer and ive not seen may pictures of the setups like that.
      Yes the splitter likes to moves backwards when in use, its the kinetic force returning on the springs which causes it to walk back. Ill figure something out to stop that eventually.
