    Received mine today and couldn’t be more excited--I absolutely love the form-factor--with it’s larger size (seems very light) it’s easier to read, and very comfortable. And notes adds a whole layer of coolness that we’ll see if it can replace my reMarkable. Yes, I know all about the 100% focus with reMarkable…but this is very similar-no apps, just reading and writing. Love it so far!

    Wow Peter. You’re very forgiving. So compared to others you can’t write in the margins of the book’s. So it is difficult to reference your notes. PDF’s are nearly impossible to navigate and to write on. It doesn’t text cover writing. No, this is scriptable as a writing tablet until they fix the interface. Which at the sorts of kindle updates, maybe in 3 years.

    The feature that would set it apart from paper, where I always run out of space, would be word-processing. Recognizing words and lines (even without OCR) so I can delete or insert with paragraph reflow. Merge and split paragraphs and kind of endless paper, with pages ending after whatever last line fits. Without that it would seem rather primitive!

  • @JohnWenzelburgerJW
    @JohnWenzelburgerJW 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one and I am still getting used to it. I bought it mostly for the larger screen I doubt I will use the writing feature. The big screen is nice but I so far have found it a bit awkward. If held close say 1 1/2 feet it is like trying to read something on a computer monitor that spans the full screen. I find myself loosing what line is next. I increased the font size and that helped a lot. I do like that I can have more text on the screen and still have a larger font. I like the warm background light and I think I will try the dark mode. I'm still having a bit of buyer's remorse but I am finding more thing that I like about it.

  • @harlockdav
    @harlockdav 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi guys, just one comment … did you try to put a kindle oasis beside a kindle scribe and check text quality? I have to say that even if resolution is top on both devices, the scribe has quite notably less contrast, the black is kind of dark gray if compared to the black text on oasis, the frame of the scribe follows the same darkness of the e-ink dark text, making it leas apparent, but the same happens to oasis, the oasis frame has the same darkness thank oasis e-ink dark text.. and I can tell the two frames are not the same dark at all, being the scribe quite less black than the oasis. Maybe it’s a side effect of the Wacom pen layer? Making dark less dark on scribe?

    Idk, this seems way too big for me, and note taking seems pretty useless also. I would love it if they came out with an 8 inch Kindle Oasis, I think that would be the sweet spot for both reading books and for manga, as well as being more portable. Bigger isn’t always better. 🤷‍♂️

    • @rail7646
      @rail7646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      actually 9 inch would be perfect for manga, but there isn't any e-ink screen of that size, and I prefer 10 over 8 due to not having to zoom, some mangas require you to zoom even on a 8 inch device, this makes this device to the new best manga reader at least on the hardware side of things, unfortunately you can't install android apps like tachiyomi. Man the absolute best device would be an android 9 inch e-ink 300dpi one but what can you do.

    Is the note function really that useful? A kindle already allows taking notes, marking text, in case of the app even in different colors.
    That leaves writing and drawing. Here, it does not look versatile enough (shading) for any half serious drawing.
    And who wants to write that much on e-ink by hand with a stylus that this is the preferred format or needs to write much without access to other means that a bulky pad would be the solution?

    your description area says "The Amazon Kindle Scribe is likely the best digital note taking device on the planet". and yet, in your review in the Notes section, you start out by saying that "Surprisingly, the note taking section and capabilities of this unit, it's actually really small...there's not really a whole lot you can do with it".
    so which is it?

      We updated that. I have no idea who wrote that, our company has 40 people in it across five countries, so sometimes people update display pictures, images, descriptions, etc.
      You are correct, this most definitely is not the greatest e note on the planet

      From the Amazon listing it sounds like it will vary a lot depending on your usage as well (weeks of writing vs. months of reading).

    I’m not a note taker so this isn’t on my radar. But, if they took this form factor and shrunk it down to the size of the Oasis and kept the page buttons, I’d buy it instantly. I love the Oasis screen and size but HATE the back side bump.

    I had commented on @ChalidRaqami video that the Scribe doesn't have a light sensor, referencing your video. He sent me a video of him using a flashlight on the screen, with auto brightness on, and it clearly changing brightness in response. Just a heads up.

    Why didn't you see this coming? Do you lack imagination? It's an OBVIOUS move for Kindle. After the success of Remarkable and the fact that Amazon refused to allow the kindle app on Remarkable clearly indicated they were developing a competing device. I'm actually surprised Amazon didn't try to acquire Remarkable as Jeff can afford it and their technology is still ahead of the competition in key areas like pressure sensitivity and tilt for a real drawing experience. I hope that Remarkable 3 is underway and that they finally get the kindle app so they can compete.

      because amazon doesnt innovate or trailblaze anything. They were pre-dated by sony several years, they didnt do glowlight first, audio, TTS, color, ... i mean, yeah, we are right. No one saw it coming.
      None of the big 3 even so much as entertained the Note taking world until 2021 with the elipsa even though stylus note taking has been around since 2010 (sony prs 350) and actually before
      so... no, it was NOT an obvious move.

    windows invested so much into handwriting years ago but no eink touchscreen device ever came with it. separately, there are these "digital writer devices", if only this Kindle had support for Bluetooth keyboard and proper OS/apps for note taking, would have been enough to put them out of business too

    • @AndyWallWasWeak
      @AndyWallWasWeak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      instead, simply too expensive, $350 and most features at best will be released later. they had years to develop at least proper apps if not full android support

    14:10 Dark mode on an eink screen does NOT help with eye strain people! E-readers use ink displays NOT glowing pixels. I'm so annoyed that reviewers don't know what eink is. It's laughably sad. 😂

      I don’t think you understand lmao, it can definitely reduce eye strain for some. For example, even something as simple as changing your font size or font type can reduce eye strain, so this idea that the only thing that can reduce eye strain on a kindle is the existence of the e-ink display is wildly ignorant. Please don’t be such a fucking asshat next time.
