@@OM19_MO79 Thanks for this comment! Very helpful! Now, I know that I'll need my Mega CD II to be attached to my Mega Drive II, to be able to play Paprium in 2-player mode...! Also, you've got a point about that sprite. 🎮👊😎
@@OM19_MO79 , does it really matter? The bottom line is this...even though the game is ultimately mediocre, that does not mean that the hardware, let alone trickery, that made the game is mediocre as it is, in fact, VERY impressive, given the limitations of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive hardware and that Paprium is, ultimately a bar that is set for people to use the same technology that powered that game to make even more impressive homebrew games for that console...now if only someone would have the balls to do that to the SNES/NSFC, then I would be happy.
I actually kinda feel sorry for Fonzie. This kind of trainwreck disaster is not something anyone willfully creates. He did want to achieve a dream, and it looks like a lot of scumbags stood in his way.
Own the game myself and while it's enjoyable it definitely didn't live up to all the drama that tailed it. They should seriously release this digitally if they want to make that money back they lost if any at all.
Don't worry.. He just took another $800,000 of gamer's money on Kickstarter to sell console ports of Paprium.. Gee, this will NEVER happen, as he's already stated he will NEVER release a modern port of it. Yet people still gave him nearly another million dollars. I got ripped off in 2017 from them, but no one even listens, so now all of those Kickstarters will feel what it's like to also be ripped off by a guy named FONZIE... "Aaaaaaaaye!"👍👍
@VideoGameObsession That KS was fucking insane! If they don't pull through with both the new version AND giving out the original copies as promised, that's going to further hurt KS campaigns as a whole. It's a real shame because the game is actually an alright game.
Not sure why you say it's delivered, I've STILL haven't recieved mine yet. I've written countless times saying I can't log in to my account, never had a single response, just blanket emails of promising its coming and they're being bagged down with trolls. I just want the copy I paid for >:(
Ooof, sorry to hear that Larry. I wish I could help you, but the phone interview I had with Fonzie was through Watermelon's support number. I can DM it to you if don't have it, but I assume you do?
"Hey, this order is for Larry Bundy Jr!" "WHAT? Give it here - I'll never forgive him for making fun of me on his Halo challenge. I'm throwing it in the trash." "...Dude, that was DECADES AGO" "I SHALL BE AVENGED!"
Over and over people do not seem to get the undeniable fact that trust is the number one important thing in business. If you compromise trust in any part of your business you will be destroying faith in the product/service.
That was just an early technical test that Fonzie showed at the beginning of the project. It was not meant to fool anyone. These Final Fight sprites are not in Paprium.
The cartridge is prone to failure. My cart for example only shows a black screen on a Model 2. I have read about others playing the game for 30 minutes only to have their cart cut out and produce the same black screen upon reboot. Or worse, the epoxy starts melting like cheese on a Halloween themed cheeseburger for BK Japan. Selling this game in digital format would mitigate the damage caused by every cart eventually failing.
@Benjamin Jagun There's been another statement by several others saying that the game doesn't work on very early model 1's unless a 32X is attached. The game is obviously f--ked from the get go, so glad I never wasted my money on it.
I feel like Watermelon are missing a sizeable market by not releasing on Steam. With the current price point and the hardware risks on the MD, I can't bring myself to purchase it, as much as I'd like to try the game.
That'll probably never happen, as Fonzie (who now basically represents Watermelon entirely) is so overly zealous about using original hardware, that Paprium was intentionally designed to not work right with anything but an original Genesis/MD (although there is an easy work around on the Analogue Mega SG). Luckily, Gen/MD is a very reliable console and one of the platforms not nearly as affected by the crazy price increases others have seen. It's a good game, but I won't give Watermelon ANY of my money ever again, even if they sold their games for a dollar on Steam.
Considering the game was made from scratch to run natively on the sega genesis, making a steam port could be a gargantuan effort. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if at some point the developer thought about it, but realized he had to chose to either make it a modern console/pc game or a full on genesis release. I'm pretty sure we'll eventually get the roms to run it on an emulator, unless there was some modern anti emulator solution put into the cartidges, which I wouldn't put past the developer considering the nature of his philosophy.
I had wondered if it would eventually show up online as a rom, but with how it's made, that seems unlikely, as you say. I do see a Steam release as more likely, even if there's a bit of a wait.
My two cents has to be that he's worried about his games getting review bombed on steam, The idea of his 10/10 perfect game in da world not getting the ratings it "deserves" would shatter is ego, but that's anyones guess really.
Fonzie needs a business manager. That's just the reality of the situation. He's clearly an insanely talented person, as are those who work with him, but he cannot seem to get his business running smoothly. Hell, I'd offer my services if I believed he'd trust a random dope on the internet. I do not for one second believe he scammed anyone. I just believe he's freaking disorganized.
@@videogameobsession I think there are certain protections with Kick Starter. People don't realize, but when you click and "agree" to all this stuff that you're not even reading, there is wording in there that basically tells you "this product is not a guarantee, only a promise that the best effort will be made" or something similar. IMO, when you use crowdfunding, look at it as, "I invested X amount of money. I may get it or not. I'm OK with that."
Tulio at least seems like the kind of developer I would want to work with. Not touching money designated for other projects to get the main one yet? Randy Pitchford could learn a thing or two from this guy.
Only if you don't wish to get paid for your work, and possibly no credit either. He also saves money by not sending copies of the game to people who paid, years ago.
The Pier Solar guy right? I guess since he left after he’d done what he could with the money he had he probably no part in the other projects so makes sense to not take money from them and potentially mess up their projects, even if they never happened in the end. It’s something that happens in business a lot unfortunately, to get a nice contract they over promised for the price and then go oh shit it’s not going to be enough, but this other contract we have with this not well known company can probably wait a while longer so we can fulfil the Big Company contract and have a good reputation since that’s what people are going to hear about 😇 the smaller ones usually can’t talk either because of contract reasons, at least not specify what companies 🤔 I know someone that left a company doing that, but I was like surely that’s uncommon right 🤔 turns out not really 😒 should be common sense to not go taking money from one place to use it on something else, but common sense is a thing of the past and so is common decency 🤔 Not that the past was actually any better than the present, that’s what the 90+ year old ladies I talk to seems to agree on, lots of good process too, like not seeing people not dying of polio and measles and tuberculosis all the time… oh right 🤔 I mean there are people that either have too thick rose coloured glasses or black and white thinking, some things are better and others are worse but what the future holds nobody knows. Apart from that we all die one day, curing ageing is a bit sci-fi at the moment 😆
@@videogameobsession I’m not saying that, of course that sucked. But compared to most of the stories we’ve heard in this series, at least give the guy some credit for not pulling a Project Phoenix.
@@thecornettmultiverse I'm not familiar with Project Phoenix, unless that is another name for Mike Kennedy's Coleco Chameleon / Retro VGS fiasco. The only excuses I haven't heard from the Fonze, thus far, is that he was abducted by aliens, and anally probed, but I suppose we may hear more from him in the coming years. I personally think the right move here is for him to port Paprium to modern platforms and use the proceads to make good with his customer base. That might be the only move that would allow him to not drive his or his company, Watermelon's names into the dirt. But I've listened to an interview with him (post Paprium release), and he seems to be dead set against that. Instead, he doubles/triples the price of Paprium and notifies past buyers, who have not received their paid copies, and let's us know that we can now buy another copy, this time, for MUCH MORE than we originally paid. I doubt anyone who bought the second batch will ever see their copies either. He'll likely spend this second batch of funds on his rent and another dance party? He's not living in reality, but that's just my opinion.
@@videogameobsession then you might wanna watch DJ’s Five Campaigns That Ran Away With Your Money RPG Edition. You’ll see what I mean once it gets to that entry.
I worked at WM during that time when there were so many projects going on, but the company definitely didn't work on seven simultaneously. Sacred Line Genesis and Papi Commando came out in 2015 and 2016 respectively, and they were pretty much already completed by their original developers before Watermelon finalized the projects. Langrisser II was also on the backburner until other projects were done. But yeah, I can still agree there were too many projects at the same time.
Good thing you left before this Paprium fiasco. Now he's in for grand larceny. You may be able to scam people and get away with a few hundred thousand dollars, but then to repeat this, five years later, is asking for a class action lawsuit. I've heard of a couple in the works. One of them will likely come to fruition very soon, with WM going radio silent yet again on Kickstarter.
This video seems to be overlooking some of the events that took place. For instance, when the game suddenly appeared in 2020 and a number of initial backers finally received their games, as well as some of the bigger TH-cam channels featuring and reviewing the game, Watermelon reopened preorders...for twice the original asking price. Anyone that have preordered the game for that second wave, I don't believe have received it. And yeah even some of the original backers never got theirs either. Watermelon released an email saying they were looking for a partner to help them fulfill orders. Essentially the funding of new orders was going towards filling old orders, and those new orders would need further financial backing to be filled. Sounds kinda scammy to me.
I personally know ten people, as well as me, who have yet to receive their copies of Paprium, which we paid for as soon as the pre-order website opened the first time. I've spoken to Fonzie several times since the original planned launch date, and have heard many excuses. Maybe he shouldn't have blown his cash wad on that dumb/fake euro dance "release" party, when the buggy, unfinished Paprium alpha game was shown off. The whole thing is a failed mess IMO. Until paying customers get their copies, it's a farce, and Fonzie is a thief.
" Watermelon released an email saying they were looking for a partner to help them fulfill orders." Going by what they've done so far, I suspect that they've used all the money from the second wave preorders to fund the production of the first wave. (which still wasn't enough) Hopefully, this will not end in a scenario where you're only hope to receive a copy, is to try and convince someone else to order the game so the production of yours will get funded.

I've seen Game Sack's review of this game. Technologically it's really impressive, but in terms of gameplay, there's definitely not enough to justify the cost.
They've only ever put temporary holds on transactions. That's all they are allowed to do. I'm not fond ofnPayPal either, and have had my funds temporarily frozen in 2002, but Fonzie not sending them product to paid customers is just criminal. It would be like Amazon not sending shipments to customers because Jeff Bezos was denied a business loan. If a person pays for something, and the payment clears, you must complete the order. Simple as that. What happens on the other end is not the customer's fault.
@@fazares You can use it to pay for things on eBay, but sellers are paid through eBay's payment system (unless there are still people on PayPal and not on managed payments.)
Honestly, it comes across like a project of a late 90's Demoscene group that also just happens to have gameplay elements. It's incredibly technically impressive, it's just not a game I'd really care to play.
and still with no end in sight and the best part of a decades development time and $300+ MILLION of backer money! Star Citizen and its single player Squadron 42 are far and away the biggest joke in gaming history!
Never received my copy. I paid for the game and arcade stick. $250 down the tubes. My account doesn't work and they just send me an email saying they're busy and will eventually send it out but they never did. I even have proof that I paid for it with my credit card statements.
I'm sure it happens, but did it happen to Fonzie? I find it hard to believe, given the fact he's been proven to be a pathological liar. He blamed Air France for having lost some luggage containing essential Paprium stuff to justify delays (someone working at Air France actually bothered looking into it, and it didn't seem true, the flight didn't exist or something, I forgot, but that was shared on Sega-16). He also blamed the Chinese mafia... Seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if ninjas are also involved.
Pretty ballsy to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments and then only actually send the game to a handful of TH-cam and Twitter "influencers", to make it look like you have fulfilled your orders. And spend money on that ridiculous "release" party.
I don't get why people think this game would be more impressive on a more powerful system. The reason Paprium is as impressive as it is, is because it IS running on a Mega Drive (when you can find a console it will run on). Playing this on the Saturn for example wouldn't be impressive at all. It would be a lame looking game on a console that can do so much better. But play it on a Mega Drive and you think "Man, that is very impressive". As far as gameplay goes, it's okay. It is not as good as Bare Knuckle 2 / SOR 2. So that wouldn't save it on a more powerful console either.
If they had targeted SEGA CD / MEGA CD instead they probably wouldn't need onboard audio and decompression chips. More time could have been spent on the gameplay itself instead of trying to get it to work. A CD is much cheaper to manufacture. They could have got the price down and sold more copies. If this only works on 20% of real Genesis/Mega Drive consoles that is just too low. Even less people have a SEGA CD setup but SEGA CD emulation is pretty easy to get going, easy to backup a disc and get playing.
@@NoSpamForYou You want to go from Genesis niche to what the hell is a Sega CD niche? Also I am assuming the 20% is hyperbole. The game works on most Genesis perfectly fine.
A few of the in-game characters are familiar, like Toxic Avenger/Toxic Crusader from Troma. A few sprites also seem to be ripped from other games, too. Am I wrong?
Fun fact, there was an contest of sharing an facebook post about paprium and some 5 (i guess it was 5...) people would get the cool arcade stick, and guess what? I was lucky enough to be win that...4 years ago. Still to this day, no arcade stick for me. I did send her an email ins 2019, asking about it and nothing....
Thanks to St1ka's videos, I know all about the troubles behind this game, and don't approve of people not getting paid and customers being fucked for so long. But . . . GODDAMN I WANNA PLAY THAT GAME! I hope it comes to Steam or Switch someday.
Paprium as it is could work properly on the Genesis with no problems, but it's just so sloppy, the feel of the game is just awful compared to SoR2, and the technical stuff about not working on some hardware is all on Fonzie. In a perfect world where Fonzie didn't alienate not only his team but the entire fanbase as well, this game would have been proper.
As someone who knew nothing about this situation or the developers before this video, here are my thoughts: It sucks for everyone that this situation went down, though I'm glad the game eventually (somewhat) released to the public, playable (sometimes) and actually pretty good. But That inside manual kinda read as someone who has a bit of an ego. I'm glad Fonzie didn't let the negativity get to him and eventually released the game, but he also can't just ignore all the issues that caused the criticism in the first place. As I see it, there are issues that need to be resolved with the physical copies and there are people who have yet to even get their copies, so here are some thoughts: -Release the project digitally and give the backers (especially those yet to receive physical ones) a free digital copy. This makes it so that people can at least play the darn thing and fulfill the physical copies with the revenue generated from selling digitally. -Stop using Paypal for preorders. Someone in the comments already explained why you shouldn't do it for preorders, but if they've seized funds twice, find a different route. -Properly communicate with fans and backers about problems going forward and listen to concerns when it comes to new projects. It's probably the best shot at rebuilding their reputation if they can follow up their words with actions. -Work only on a few projects at a time, if not just one. Fund allocation shouldn't be stretched thin and you'll look worse dropping a bunch of projects instead of just one.
I don't think you can call him a scammer since he did not only produce the product, but other than the admittedly massive delays it included everything promised. A scammer either takes the money and doesn't provide anything or provides something far short of the promises. Watermelon just bit off way more than they could chew.
I do think it was wise for him to just unplug from the internet for a while and focus on other things. I'm glad this didn't end as bad as it could have. I do agree hes not a scammer just a creator who isn't really good with fianances and stuff. I want to see more from Watermelon soon. I really got hyped for Pier Solar when I first saw it. I would like to play Paprium too.
Yeah, I don’t think he intended to scam anyone, he just got in way over his head, lost the guy who was handling the business stuff, and wasn’t able to handle it himself.
Fonzie is a total w***er. If anyone ever feels that they can trust this guy ever with money again: seek therapy instantly! He's the worst example I can think of in the Indie scene. Hats off to Tulio for exercising moral judgment and distancing himself from Fonzie.
I agree, I don't think he's _intentionally_ a scammer, I think he's just an enthusiast who lost his business savvy partner and ended up in _way_ over his head with the whole thing; but behind all that, he _does_ at least seem to have the talent and enthusiasm to (eventually) deliver what he promises.
16/16/2020? Um, what? What time and space is this guy living on? Maybe this explains why it took so long for the info to be released and the game shipped, the difference between his time and reality.
yeah, exactly. No idea why, even after being scammed (in Larrys case, totally scammed) people are gushing over what is a ridiculous boiler plate SoR clone.
and as I watch his review, I see idiocy like floating boob robots, a super buff old man with a purse and walker. a pink wash over the whole palette. Larry talks about it falling apart, not working on many systems....yet he still gushes over it. And after all Fonzies BS and offensive comments (like his AIDS comment)...Larry begs him to release it elsewhere so that he can make more money. Seriously? ??
@@cthulhupthagn5771 Yeah, Larry is definitely being a bit too charitable; the game doesn’t seem to stand out compared to other beat-em-ups like Streets of Rage, some of the enemy design are pretty ridiculous, and I wouldn’t be so forgiving of all the BS Fonzie has pulled (especially when Larry says the main reason he wants the game released elsewhere is so Fonzie could make more money; I wouldn’t say that (or at least not put it that way) even about someone I liked and trusted!)
I love 16bit and 32bit-2D games. To me they are not old or nostalgic but simply timeless and games I like to play. So I never got the fuss about old hardware. I'm always for perfect ports of everything to modern hardware + some nice filters.
@@zkdr6278 Not so good for the backers. Great if you didn't pre-order the stuff but for people who did we just wanted to see the drama end like any sane person would.😆
I finally did get my copy of Paprium after being an original backer and I have to say, the game is pretty amazing! The whole story behind its development just makes it more valuable to me. I am definitely not selling it.
18:20 Hahahah Wait wha...? The... Mafia? So like, The Chinese mafia? ...Not... Not a part of the Triad? Um... Ok? That honestly strikes me as the weirdest attempt at a lie/conspiracy theory I've seen in a while, Which says a lot given recent events. ...I mean that's like saying Al Capone was a famous Yakuza... Understandable attempt, 0 consideration for reality.
While the game looks impressive on the Sega Genesis, it's not a prime 90s game so the hype for it didn't really excite. Yes this game is taking the Sega Genesis to its limit but it's not taking the prime Genesis to its limit. At this stage in gaming this is just like digging the Genesis out of its grave and shoving modern crap onto it. Just let the Genesis rest in peace, it needs no more craps.
Being born in the 1980s and growing up in the 1990s was a great time. We lived through analog and digital. I saw a video of a toddler swiping on a Cosmo magazine (i think it was?) she was thinking it was a tablet. I remember before we had the internet.
This just reminded me that I built a computer when I was ten out of random dead computers people gave me. I then ran a phone line out my window and to the family room window. All so I could stream RealPlayer audio dramas when I went to bed.
i almost choked when you said that advert for paprium was "incredible"..... that was an untalented mess covered by obnoxious, loud noise to cover for the fact that they are showing you as little as possible about the game.
Well, Fonzi seems very...unique. At least they made the game though. The Genesis is one of my favorite consoles so it’s nice to see new content being produced for it.
True - hope it's the start of some more things. As a vita owner, I'm quite fond of seeing consoles that are so capable of stuff having new games made for them.
Yeah the game looks nice enough (I actually quite like the colours, but not the animations) but the devs lost the trust of many gamers and it's overpriced for what it is. Thankfully we got Streets of Rage 4, a quality brawler and official sequel to the Mega Drive's famous series and much more affordable too.
Fundraiser for Steam and PS4/PS5 version went live today. More versions are planned if it's successful. I have been a Watermelon investor since Pier Solar. While they made mistakes, mostly everything that's damaged everything is PayPal stealing, causing a domino effect that is ending up with PayPal being sued if they don't fix the problem. So far it looks like PayPal is using the old technique of trying to bluff them out, holding the money as ransom with no intention of releasing it. So yes Mafia tactics. Fonzie has to get the case to the court system before time runs out. Everyone should be trying to sue PayPal for laundering their money away from Watermelon.
You've been an investor since Pier Solar and you still think this dude is solid? Took them 2 whole years to release Pier Solar after its original release date and then another 4 years for the last reprint? All while during this PayPal scam people could still invest into the projects to help the company. Fonzie also had the nerve to host a party for the game when its not being released yet and during this whole PayPal scam? This dude is a piece of shit.
Given my experience with PayPal...I'd believe it. PayPal is fucking abysmal...if someone uses it and hasn't had any issues, they got fuckin lucky as far as I see it.
The guy just needs a damn manager. Just, hire someone to be in charge of the business. You can make the whole thing employee owned so nobody can fuck someone over with too much leverage or whatever; just make it someone's job to make him do his job and make sure everyone is paid.
It's a shame...I'd totally play this game if it were available digitally, but I'm not going to take my chances that they don't even send me a copy or that it doesn't work on my Genesis (which I'm not even sure if it's an original refurbished Genesis or some kind of re-release because I had to buy a new one online a year ago after I tried to play Gauntlet on my original from 1990 and the console wouldn't turn on).
Oh wow, I DID NOT knew about this ordeal and games before, and there's no way I would have loved to get into it than in one of your series, be it Kickscammers or Complete History in your classic in-depth and well-explained style! Thank you SO much!
Thank you so much for this, Slope. I think you pretty much put it perfectly about Paprium’s gameplay as a while: style over substance. I really like it but you’re right, I’m happy to own it and have experienced it overall, but more about the spectacle and it’s history. And you’re right, St1ka needs more love!
Lucky. So many of us have not received their paid game. I messaged Fonzie many times. I was promised that I would receive it, and then in one final message he said he's unwilling to send out anymore copies until he gets more money from PayPal. So the rest of us as SOL. He can eat a pineapple from the back end for all I care. 🍍🍑.. I've never said that before, but I think it may be my new thing. :P
This was a fun one to edit. I'm glad so many people are enjoying it. The story is wild and bumpy! So it was nice to visually bring it to life. Also happy the game finally came out in some capacity. But the combat does look shallow. I'll never get to know at that price point. Not worth the risk of losing that much money. I do think the idea of a modern port would be awesome!
I've said this from the beginning. I used to be subbed but after a couple months I had to unsub because I could not stand listening too him. I feel really sorry because I am also bilingual, but the accent is just nails on a chalkboard to me.
I'd have a lot more interest in this game if it came to any of the current consoles like slope says. It's a cool novelty but an expensive one and not having a digital version is doing themselves no service.
So I backed the Kickstarter that funded back in 2021. I am not worried. A lot of people are pissed its taking so long but I had already saw it took 8 years to come out with the original so I was like well I am patient and knew it could take years and years going into it. For a good game I am willing to wait a while. Besides I already have a backlog of games I haven't played yet.
in an age where game ads are cgi short films pretending to be a game, gotta appreciate recreations of old ads of unrelated insanity with snippets of gameplay cut in

Sidebar - that's one element I marvelled at, just how many mb's these carts could be stuffed with. I remember when FFIII (6 JP) released for the SNES it often sold for close or over $100 (CAD)and I heard it was mostly due to the heavier storage it had onboard. I also loved that about the Street Fighter series, those ones were like thick, juicy steaks of cartridges - one of my prized possessions is a copy of Super Street Fighter II for the SNES and you can easily tell while you're playing it that it's a big game 😊

I actually kinda feel sorry for Fonzie. This kind of trainwreck disaster is not something anyone willfully creates. He did want to achieve a dream, and it looks like a lot of scumbags stood in his way.
err if you put the TH-cam subtitles on at 34:14 it says "and a huge thank you to my wife who sadly died" 😟
What i uave learned from this and other experiences: don't use PayPal.
Own the game myself and while it's enjoyable it definitely didn't live up to all the drama that tailed it. They should seriously release this digitally if they want to make that money back they lost if any at all.
More than anything, I'll probably end up buying from a scalper if this keeps up...
Or if they update the game like they said it could be. Improve A.I, nerf jump kicks, tweak the special move and add some extra stuff
I would like to see a port for MS-DOS (386, 486)

Over and over people do not seem to get the undeniable fact that trust is the number one important thing in business. If you compromise trust in any part of your business you will be destroying faith in the product/service.
The creators sure didn't get the message..
Those "paprium" sprites we saw on the CRT (right after the mega drive commercial clip" were ripped directly from Final Fight.
Can you play the ROM on an emulator?
A shame since Pier Solar is on steam
Yeah, it sounds more like he just got in over his head and couldn’t handle managing something that big after losing his partner.
He'll need a good lawyer more than anything. Stealing another $800,000 is Grand Larceny.
Actually he seems to be a pretty competent grifter
Tulio at least seems like the kind of developer I would want to work with. Not touching money designated for other projects to get the main one yet? Randy Pitchford could learn a thing or two from this guy.
Only if you don't wish to get paid for your work, and possibly no credit either. He also saves money by not sending copies of the game to people who paid, years ago.
The Pier Solar guy right? I guess since he left after he’d done what he could with the money he had he probably no part in the other projects so makes sense to not take money from them and potentially mess up their projects, even if they never happened in the end.
It’s something that happens in business a lot unfortunately, to get a nice contract they over promised for the price and then go oh shit it’s not going to be enough, but this other contract we have with this not well known company can probably wait a while longer so we can fulfil the Big Company contract and have a good reputation since that’s what people are going to hear about 😇 the smaller ones usually can’t talk either because of contract reasons, at least not specify what companies 🤔 I know someone that left a company doing that, but I was like surely that’s uncommon right 🤔 turns out not really 😒 should be common sense to not go taking money from one place to use it on something else, but common sense is a thing of the past and so is common decency 🤔
Not that the past was actually any better than the present, that’s what the 90+ year old ladies I talk to seems to agree on, lots of good process too, like not seeing people not dying of polio and measles and tuberculosis all the time… oh right 🤔 I mean there are people that either have too thick rose coloured glasses or black and white thinking, some things are better and others are worse but what the future holds nobody knows.
It's a shame WaterMelon managed to destroy their reputation with this whole fiasco, I actually really liked Pier Solar.
I agree. I may be mistaken but Dan also made the error of saying that Super Street Fighter II was 24 MEG which is completely wrong.

I still havent received my copy...nor a refund.
(which still wasn't enough)
Hopefully, this will not end in a scenario where you're only hope to receive a copy, is to try and convince someone else to order the game so the production of yours will get funded.

I've seen Game Sack's review of this game. Technologically it's really impressive, but in terms of gameplay, there's definitely not enough to justify the cost.
Paypal randomly seizing money and refusing to give it back? Sounds pretty typical, honestly.
PayPal really are scum. As much as people complain about eBay Managed Payments (and eBay in general), I am glad they are finally rid of PayPal.

I said it before but "Paprium" should be a term like vaporware except for kickstarter debacles.
I get what you're saying, but this did come out. The road that got it here was paved with broken trust and broken promises, but it got here.

As someone who knew nothing about this situation or the developers before this video, here are my thoughts:
It sucks for everyone that this situation went down, though I'm glad the game eventually (somewhat) released to the public, playable (sometimes) and actually pretty good.
But
That inside manual kinda read as someone who has a bit of an ego. I'm glad Fonzie didn't let the negativity get to him and eventually released the game, but he also can't just ignore all the issues that caused the criticism in the first place. As I see it, there are issues that need to be resolved with the physical copies and there are people who have yet to even get their copies, so here are some thoughts:
-Release the project digitally and give the backers (especially those yet to receive physical ones) a free digital copy.
Man, I still have my OUYA, I remember the days… actually since I had no good computer it was my way of emulation

If he has my money, which he does, and never mailed me a product in return, which he didn't, thats a scam

And now they've got a new Kickstarter going for Paprium to be released on PC/PS4/PS5 and eventually Switch... the ride continues.

I'm still waiting for my copy I paid for in 2017. These guys stole a lot of people's money.

True - hope it's the start of some more things. As a vita owner, I'm quite fond of seeing consoles that are so capable of stuff having new games made for them.
I remember playing Pier Solar... I found it frustrating near the end.
I can’t wait for an update video considering their recent kickstarter success
Can't wait for the next game to come out, in about 10 years or so
Yeah the game looks nice enough (I actually quite like the colours, but not the animations) but the devs lost the trust of many gamers and it's overpriced for what it is.
We will never know if Fonzie was lying about Paypal locking his account or not.
Given my experience with PayPal...I'd believe it.
PayPal is fucking abysmal...if someone uses it and hasn't had any issues, they got fuckin lucky as far as I see it.
@@ChazDragoon lesson 1 of this whole fucking fiasco? Don't fucking use PayPal. Loan sharks are more forgiving.
@@ChazDragoon yep paypal is trash, revolut is a million times better
I pre-ordered Paprium in 2012. I still haven't received my Investor's Copy.
wow, he was truly correct about the profit to be had from ebay-ing it. It's going for ridiculous amounts online right now.
“Show do Mill-Hey-YOH” - yer Pertergoose is perfecto.
I wish somebody will release a triple a NEO GEO game of 1Gbit in size. :D
Can we expect an amico kickscammer in the near future?
Yeah. Remember when we thought the Ouya was a shitshow? We were so naïve at how bad things could get...
Why is it a scam?
@@martinevans1206 IMO, yes.
Nice, my man St1ka here. Small world 😁❤️ love both channels
Thank you! :D
@@st1ka good stuff, have a great weekend mate, see you around 😀
@@liveyourdreammedia Thank you and you too! ^^
Dump the ROM, then I'll play it. As it stands now? NOPE!
I love how you used FFIII/VI music for the RPG segment for Tavern. Thanks for another great video.
OUYA was great for retro at the time.
That pronunciation of Show do Milhão was hilarious
lol
Oh wow, I DID NOT knew about this ordeal and games before, and there's no way I would have loved to get into it than in one of your series, be it Kickscammers or Complete History in your classic in-depth and well-explained style! Thank you SO much!
Thank you so much for this, Slope. I think you pretty much put it perfectly about Paprium’s gameplay as a while: style over substance. I really like it but you’re right, I’m happy to own it and have experienced it overall, but more about the spectacle and it’s history.
And you’re right, St1ka needs more love!
So, this guy Fonzie, stole the company from the other guy?
Awful...
So glad a got my copy after waiting years, but yeah, reading that manifest was nuts. I was like...dude, I love SEGA too, but have some class. Lol
Would like to see a video on the Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs - got stung on that one and would love to find out some more info....
Ditto that! Really peeves that it just vanished with all of our money.
O shit its St1ka! Good to see him finally getting up there in recognition.
gYOUd nYOOS you actYOOALLIE LaWIKE that god awful forced accent?
@@lapisrabbitcomics I'll refer you to this gem of the retro gaming youtube videos. th-cam.com/video/FBB1nSFxrCk/w-d-xo.html
Aww thanks man :D
That other guy talking makes this video nearly impossible to listen to.
I've said this from the beginning. I used to be subbed but after a couple months I had to unsub because I could not stand listening too him. I feel really sorry because I am also bilingual, but the accent is just nails on a chalkboard to me.
Limited Run should acquire all their games and print the hell out of them on everything
Limited Run also likes artificial scarcity, so that's doubtful.
I wish they'd consider releasing it on modern platforms like they did with Pier Solar. But it sounds like Fonzie is dead-set against it.
Bummer.
His head is stuck too far up his ass.
Your voice sounds so similar to Jeremy Clarkson it's uncanny.
Ya think?
Nice Sonic statue in the backgroud Slopes!
I'd have a lot more interest in this game if it came to any of the current consoles like slope says. It's a cool novelty but an expensive one and not having a digital version is doing themselves no service.
🆒❕‼️❗️ F 🅰️Rℹ️U〽️ …. You got what I said now shut up… lovely way to treat the people who supported you.

So I backed the Kickstarter that funded back in 2021. I am not worried. A lot of people are pissed its taking so long but I had already saw it took 8 years to come out with the original so I was like well I am patient and knew it could take years and years going into it. For a good game I am willing to wait a while. Besides I already have a backlog of games I haven't played yet.
in an age where game ads are cgi short films pretending to be a game, gotta appreciate recreations of old ads of unrelated insanity with snippets of gameplay cut in
Me listening to St1ka: "so that's how I sound speaking English?"
Believe it or not, that's the first time I actually see a Brazilian speaking English with an accent, lol.
EDIT: St1ka is Portuguese, so I still don't know how I sound :/
If it helps, I'm actually European Portuguese, so we should sound a tiny bit differently 😅
@@st1ka so that's why you sound like Integza? Dang, I knew a Brazilian breaking into the anglo market was too good to be true xD.
@@evertonc1448 Sorry :(

This and Kraut Buster needs to be either sold digitally or emulated!
Having an expensive launch event for your game 2 years before it's even finished is rather uhhhh, ballsy, to say the least.
The latest developer to do that was CDPR with Cyberpunk, and we all know how that turned out.
I never thought of that a crowd funding games donations could be used to launder money huh. Simple but effective.
A kickstarter i backed had the same papal problem of withholding funds thinking it was money laundering, got it after a couple years iirc. Was Strongholds and Followers.
Fun fact they release a kickstarter for a hd version. It made over 800,000
At 19:20.... WHAT GAME IS THAT MUSIC FROM??? SOMEBODY PLLLEEEAASSSEEE.... its unlocked a partial memory and doing my head in. Anybody please? Many thanks
