Can always try some epoxy or job weld

I'm using a TP 4070cm 2200kv 8s motor and a Hobbywing Max 5 in my very modified Rustler 2wd. There is so much power going to the rear wheels for which I have Jaco foams. If the wheel nuts aren't tightened with the proper tool it loosens and the jaco hex got rounded out. What I do is I got plastic weld and mixed it with crazy glue and put in the hex rim groove and then I put a cheap hex hub inside the Jaco tire hex rim groove for a minute just for the plastic weld around the jaco hex groove to dry up a bit and pulled it out. It took the form of the hex and left it to dry for about 4 hours in the hot sun. When I tried driving my car the jaco rim and tires hold firmly and aren't backing out.

Kevin Talbot when you measure drill bits, if you put them long ways in the calipers, it will always measure the high spots because it gets the entire spiral between the caliper ears. Just how we do it here in our machine shop 😎

Just a little piece of wood between the hex and the C-clamp. Two part epoxy works great. I use JB Weld.

You guys are doing it the hard way... First off it does not matter if you drill all the way through the hex adapter as a matter of fact you start out by drilling two holes in the hex before you glue it in the wheel then when you put it in the wheel... you drill directly through the holes that you've already drilled into the wheel... Use a drill bit one size smaller than the PIN and then you are able to push it in the hole with a pair of pliers... And very important make sure you use permanent threadlocker on your wheel nut....it sucks when you have to take your tire off bit I haven't had one fail yet

As far as the superglue, use the super glue in conjunction with baking soda, it hardens to a hard durable plastic, I’ve used it to fix a broken A-Arm mount on my Slash

I actually just did this with a set of proline beadlocks. I cut a plastic washer and put it in the gap between the hex and the stripped out hole all around the hex itself. Then I used an epoxy to glue it in. So far so good!

Hello Kevin, don't know if you will read this or respond but I'm running 4S Castle systems on my 2wd stampede that I bought new in the late 90's. Great truck you can imagine all the parts now are VXL5 parts but I kept having the same problem with the wheel hex nuts spinning out the back side of the wheel. I found a fix. Get the metal hex nut that goes on the axle. clean both surfaces good. This is important because I tried what you did minus the set pin and the glue kept giving way. The problem is the wall on the wheel side is so thin that with the torque we are producing actually stretches out the hex on the back of the wheel. I'm running clod buster tires. When gluing glob the glue where the hex nut sits but also around the outside of the wheels hex it's self. Put some glue one the wheel it's self on the outside wall of the hex so that the hex on the wheel cant blow out or stretch. cheers

You might want to try putting a washer on the nut side to capture the pin on the ones where you don't drill all the way through or maybe just file a bit off the end of the pins, either way nice idea, and looking forward to see if that holds up. Also, you tend to run a lot of power, maybe you should go with 2 pins per, and spread the load that's gonna go through those a bit more evenly. Again, awesome vid.

  • @Jbpipesandmufflers

the problem in plastic with a metal drill is that the helix is what pulls the drill in.
you want to make the first bit straight(paralell) with the drill itselve so it scrapes instaid of pulls.. that way. you can even drill plexiglass without cracking it up.
and drill much more precise depth.

Hey Kev, thanks for the great vids man.
One durability question for you. On the stock aluminium motor mount, have you ever had issues with the big bearing for spur gear?
I ask because there are some newer mounts that have larger bearings included with them. Just wondering if they are actually necessary. From Hot Racing or King Headz.

  • @ftrc9065
